View Full Version : Having a real difficult time reaching BST

Personally, I really despise Magic jobs. Being a Bst is something I really want to be, but having to raise whm to 37 just seems to be too much. BLM to 18 to sub for WHM to 37 is easy, but I really hate being a WHM. I've had other characters that were WHM that I raised to mid 20's and it was a nightmare for me. So if anyone has any tips for getting WHM to 37 or maybe a little pep talk to help me grin and bear it would be great.

Level your WHM.
Your welcome.

I recently just leveled my WHM to 9 - 30, I started 2 weeks ago. But it only one week leveling after school and extracaricular activities, and about 4 days during spring break. It wasnt as near bad as I thought it would be. It took me less than 5 mins to get an invite (except late at night for some reason). I was also lucky cuz there were lots of PL's in valkurm and the jungles. I even thought about leveling BLM to 30 so I can start using WHM as my second job (BTW i went 9 - 30 as WHM/RDM, with all equipment no higher than lvl 10 :) )

Well the tips I have would be near impossible to do considering the level of intelligence that many of the lower level parties now have. I just can't believe that a party would have that much difficulty when they are lv. 15, killing stuff I did with parties when we were lv. 10.
Even worse about is them needing a PL'er in order to do it too. Talk about horrible I still just can't believe it. Anyway Leveling WHM can be fairly easy if you can find a really good player to duo with at least. It funny but last time I watched a lv. 10-15 party now if I was duoing at their levels I would surpass those parties with so much ease it isn't funny.
It will feel so good to be able to use teleports at level 36, you'll want to level to 38 to use the other teleports too. At least that's what I did. It was a fairly rough road, but WHM get invites easy, so theres never much LFG time. Also, you dont HAVE to use WHM as a sub for BST, but honestly, its the best one to use.

eh, level RDM then. Not quite as effective, but it'll get the job done.

Sisyphus all i can say is just keep at it. I have gone from about 14-24 in maybe a 4-5 days? And i don't get to play all day... Only a few straight hours each night.
Also... i am Galkan. Even with that said though, once you get to Korroloka, then Qufim things get easier.
The worst for me so far was getting out of the Dunes level areas. Granted Qufim isn't a whole lot better mentality wise these days, from what i hear.
Be thankful that you aren't a job that is in much less demand, and revel in the fact that you shouldn't be LFP for long. The almost steady invites you will get can only get you exp that much faster. Stay as current as you can on the vital pieces of Equip for your key levels and bring MP food (and even juice for those times that you need the MP that much faster).
My advice in general is just stick with it. I am headed for the same goal as you, a sub for my future BST. I will probably give WHM a break at 30 and grab (and level) my BST until i need to get WHM to 37/38. As a MP lacking Galkan Mage i can tell you it could be even harder. But i am still having fun with it, learning how best to use my macros, when to heal, what to heal with, status effects yes?, etc.
Sure if you are into a more DD job then WHM is going to seem drab, but i like the fact that you really have to pay attention to what is going on.
Good luck on BST!! You will make 30/37/38 before you know it. Just don't give up. (Save your frustration for the 36tth time you die in 4 hours with Beastmaster^^)

I feel you... I had to start a new character (after old one was deleted because of cancelled ID...), and getting WHM to 30 is a nightmare. Sure, you get lots of invites, but most parties absolutely suck... I could solo BST twice as fast. Occasionally you get a good party though, I just had a JP party that got 3 levels in 2 hours in Korroloka... Can't wait until I get BST again.
I Sadly admit... I put JP Only in my comments when I play WHM. And I got from 9 to 25 in 1 day.

Make it yet Sisyphus? I myself hit 30 WHM, and am now nearing 15 on BST. It IS possible, and like you i didn't really want to be a WHM that much (though i did end up finding it quite challenging and fun) but you just have to make it to 30.
After you hit 30 you won't have to come back to it for quite a while^^
If you are still struggling, just keep at it. Make sure you have the necessary spells for your level... even if you don't plan on ever touching WHM again it will help your Party(s) and that can only smooth the exp gain.
Mages are a in a different world from melee obviously but you will get used to it if you try, and may even find it isn't so bad at all (i really found myself loving it >.>)
Before you know it you will be off to sneak past that Kraken (on WHM!!) all by yourself and have your Beastmaster^^
Good luck, and if all this is in vain and you have already hit 30 and unlocked Beastmaster then Congratulations!
^^

Unfortunatly, no. I'm now raising BLM for my sub and have only gotten it to 14. The dunes where an absolute nightmare. Of the 4 lvls I got there, I was in 2 parties that I got any exp from. Now I'm headed to Korroloko Tunnel, so I should be 18 shortly and working on my whm soon enough. Then god knows how long it will take me to get to 30's

That'll definatly depend on the party you get. If you players are good and not lazy beyond all belief then you should reach lv. 30 easily within a week (Even with only 2-4 hrs of play time like me during the weekdays).
Otherwise if they are like the more recent coming in players then expect it to take a bit Longer. At lv. 60 I had a horrible party once took 8 frickin hours for one player to level and he left immediatly after he did (I was pissed, have no clue why I said that long). Once he left I left too got a somewhat better party and in 4 hrs. everyone leveled very easily.

Yeah... you just have to take Valkurm for what it is. A big ol cesspool of inexperience for the most part. That isn't to say that each and every party there is horrid, or that new players shouldn't be given a chance to learn... it just seems that a lot of people rush to Valkurm still not knowing (or wanting to learn) their jobs.
My first party (ever) was in Valkurm Dunes about 2 months ago now... and it was by far the best party i have ever had. Funny looking back on that experience. I was so excited to be getting chains and great experience in my first party... then every party after that paled in comparsion. Even the good ones^^
Korroloka can be better (and i hope it is for you) but not always.
As far as your WHM goes, one thing you have going for you is that very rarely will you have to wait around for invites. I leveled fairly quick in Valkurm, then Korroloka, then Qufim, and finally in Nam (Kazham). I would say i made it to level 30 in under a week just as Macht here said.
So good luck to you Sisyphus. Its worth it. I myself will have to go back and level WHM from 30-37 at some point.
Just dinged 20 on BST and had my first Glorious BCNM Death^^ 1/3
Just remember that once you hit 37 on WHM, if you don't care to... you won't ever have to look back.
yea VK used to be one of the funnest PTing spot before NA released. It was full of highly skilled players playing their new jobs for fun. Getting 200 exp per kill and 250 5 chains when you only need 2k exp to level up is like... what, 4 levels per hour? We had to macro "congratulations" back at those days :P
Nowadays VK is the worst place anyone would want to level. So sad.

The funny thing is... i went BACK there to level my BST because i was fast growing tired of my other options at that level^^
Valkurm is set to /random it seems. You can safely assume that the majority of time spent there will be painful and hectic... but not ALL the time.
Those excellent parties do exist there from time to time.
Keep us posted Sisyphus, as i am always happy to see another BST in the making. And as you are on the same server as I, send me a /tell Graelinn if you ever need to.
**Sidenote. Jei... you and info you gave me nearly two years ago (July of 03) are part of the reason i was hooked long before i was even playing this^^ Thanks! And welcome back!

alright, i was currently lvling blm as a sub for when i lvled whm. I found a great pt in korroloka tunnel and hit 20. I went to selbina and got my sub, then went to Jeuno and got my choco. My whm is now currently 5 and ive been pretty lazy lately. This weekend though im gonna lvl like crazy because work won't be in the way. Everytime I see a BST lvling or a high lvl BST in a city, it just reminds me of what I'm aiming for and it gives me a little hope.

Congrats on getting Choc and Sub Sisyphus! Isn't Choc Quest fun!!
XD
And again, send a /tell to Graelinn when you hit BST (or whenever) if you have any questions.
Good luck!

Sisyphus I know exactly how you feel. My whm is @ 24 and I cant find the will to work it up even though I'm now playing as a bst. The only advice I can offer is this: stick it out. Though whm can be a painful job in the end it will save you MANY times as a bst. To make valkurm dunes a little less painful if I'm on gimme a /tell and I'll come PL your pt for an hour or 2, my other job is 55 rdm ^_^. So GL with lvling whm and cant wait to see ya get to bst! Our server needs a few more imo...maybe im just saying that cuz id like a duo partner tho XD

Ding! WHM is lvl 21! I flew through Korroloka Tunnel and headed to Quifim at lvl 19 this morning. I wound up in a great JP party and lvled up twice, but it took FOREVER (about 6hrs). Dont know where the time went or why it took so freakin long, but I dont care cause now I have Cure III and Regen! And the tank for the JP party was a NIN so I had the easiest job, cast my enfeeblings and rest. He hardly ever needed a heal. I'm almost there, I should hit 30 in a few weeks, depends on how quifim and kazham are gonna treat me  .
watch your back in yutanga.

Well, I got to 24, and thanks to my LS I got my kazham pass, and should tear through kazham pretty quickly. Hopefully I'll have BST within a day or two.

Well with a LS like SixAxeArmy helping you... ^^
Grats Mikeb.
And grats to you as well Sisyphus, you are nearly there. And heed Jei advice about Kazham... its not called "Nam" for nothing.

I got to 25 and finally got all my keys. While in Giddeus getting my key, I saw the NM Yagudo that drops the Monster Signa. The 61 PLD that helped me was crushed, the camper just started fighting it as soon as we got near it ; ;. But anyways, it didn't take very long and I haven't actually partied yet, but I will be careful. I'm almost there people, just give me about a week to hit 30 ><.

Congratulations Sisyphus!
Getting the keys can be no fun... Especially when you really want them to get to Kazham to level >.<
With a decent PT or two you should be level 30 soon. Just be patient in Kazham and get a good feel for how things work there. Have your finger on the Cure I button for "UN-sleeping" Party members because when you fight Mandies... it will happen quite a bit. Good idea to start by unsleeping either another person who has cure and can help or your main Tank or DD.
Also it can't hurt to keep Barsleepra up, though it doesn't SEEM to help so much it will lessen the "potency" of the Mandies Sleep spell.
And keep those eyes in the back of your head open for nasty Gobs... ouch.
You have the Choc quest done so that is 6 hours you WON'T have to spend later... you can just start your Beastmaster Quest.
Let me know here or in game if you would like some help for the BST Flag quest. You can easily do it solo, but i like to Tame that Kraken... >.>
Then its a win-win situation for both of us^^
Good luck, who knows, by the time you hit 30 i may have Leave!

Say hello to the newest Beastmaster! I hit 30 a lot sooner then i thought I would've. The last few lvls where definitly the worst at Kazham. I don't know why, but there where so few parties there and I usually had to wait for one of two existing parties to lose their WHM so I could join. But the PT that got me to 30 was the most unusual one I've been in, we had no tank -_-. The only ones with provoke where the DRK and the THF. So this thing was running around all over the place and eventually a member had is friend PL us. This made things pretty easy and I hit 30 quickly. But on the way back to the airship, I got aggroed by goblins right as invisible wore off and de-lvled ; ;. But my old party was so nice that a member actually stepped out and let me back in just so I could lvl back up (and at this time, we had 2 PL's). So I re-lvled and went back Jeuno. The quest was pretty simple, and I got the help of a mid-50s RDM to help kill the Kraken. Well, we got all the way there and it wasn't there but the RDM was really nice and waited for me and walked me back. So I went back to Bastok, put all of my WHM gear on the AH and played with BST a little bit and so far it's a really neat job! Thanks for all the support everyone, you really helped me achieve my goal!

Got WHM to 30, now I'm at 11 BST... (the nightmare is over!) Levelling BST is a piece of cake compared to dealing with noobish parties.

Congrats Sisyphus! Great feeling huh? I hope to see you wandering around as BST soon^^
A bit of advice... unless you absolutely HAVE to sell your WHM gear i would say you should hang on to it.
For one, you will be leveling it again... to at least 37/38 for a maxed subjob for BST 75^^ Yeah its a long time off, but why buy the gear twice?
Also there have been several times when using my WHM was very very helpful. For example:
• Sneak/Invis to find chests for my RSE
• Sneak/Invis to get me Rank 4/Rank 5
• Basically Sneak/Invis for a whole LOT of things ^^
Also i tend to like to help out when i can with things, for example helping friends with THEIR RSE keys/chests and having a fully equipped WHM to help with is always nice.
And... though BST is entirely feasible to take with you at 30 if you plan on getting the Promys done (i still need to >.>) you may find an easier time getting in a Promy run with your WHM.
But hey, if you need to sell it for the Gil to fund BST then by all means go for it.
Just wanted to throw my 2 cents down. Again Congrats and Good Luck!
