View Full Version : Confusion about DEX/Accuracy or STR/Attack or AGI/Evasion

I just have always been confused about somethign in this game, and it's what the title of this topic implies. Mostly since I'm a thf right now, I'm concerned with DEX and AGI. So, does getting accuracy rings like sniper rings help me better than have dex+3 rings? And what about AGI/evasion? Does having evasion rings give me more AGI? I'm mostly concerned about these things helping sneak attack and trick attack.
I was once told that Accuracy+1 equals DEX+2. I dont know if that's true or not. And I kinda assume that if it is true, that would apply to the rest as well.
Anyway, you can look at my current equipment in the link in my sig below. Please feel free to give me any input and if I should change anything. I'm planning on doing AF1 tonight, so I know my weapons are out of date. I'm really concerned about alot of this lately mostly because in partys lately, my SATA attacks just feel really weak! And I've spent so much gil on my equipment! I used to be doing 300+ damage every time, and now sometimes i'm barely reachign below 200 damage. Any input would really be helpful.

2 Dex roughly equals 1 Accuracy, not the other way around. I can't remember if it's a bit more or less but I read somewhere that it isn't exactly one.
Sneak Attack and Trick Attack rely on Dex and Agi respectively. Accuracy and evasion wont help either one.

Not a thief, but here is my input..
MACRO your +DEX and +AGI equipment when doing SATA if you want to keep your Accuracy gear. This will at least ensure that you do the most possible damage come SATA time.
DEX = Melee Accuracy, and Critical Hit Rate. (SATA DMG)
ACC = Melee Accuracy.
AGI = Ranged Accuracy, and Evasion.
EVA = Dodging Attack vs Mob ACC
RACC = Ranged Accuracy
STR = Melee Damage vs Mob VIT and DEF, and WS Damage.
ATT = Melee Damage vs Mob VIT and DEF, and WS Damage.
2DEX = 1ACC
2AGI = 1EVA and 1RACC
2STR = 1ATT
Though, take into consideration the Stat conversion above, you might want 2DEX over 1 ACC for a critical hit rate, and the same with the other stats.
For THF it is best to have DEX, AGI, and EVA. Some STR is nice also considering your a Mithra and have alot of DEX already, but lack in the STR/ATT area.

Man, all that really kinda discourages me. So I got these sniper rings, and what I'm doing is really hurting my SA. No wonder my attacks have been weaker lately >< What do you all think I should do? Should I sell the sniper rings and get some deft rings instead? I'd sure as hell have alot of money left over.

What you may want to do is go with what modnar suggested. Set a macro to swap DEX/AGI rings/gear in for when you SATA. Otherwise keep ACC gear in to help build TP faster. Just don't swap out weapons as that will reset your TP.
Doing that, you can have the best of both.
I'm not sure how much macroing most melee jobs do. I do know that THFs tend to macro in some gear only for WS, particularly Hetacomb gear later on since it has Slow% on it. Mages tend to do a lot of macroing, especially us RDMs :sweat:
So your macros might look like this (sorry for misspelling on names if there is any, I don't own either of them)
ACC
/equip Ring1 "Sniper's Ring"
/equip Ring2 "Sniper's Ring"
STAT
/equip Ring1 "Deft Ring"
/equip Ring2 "Deft Ring"

What hasn't been brought up yet is that (with strength at least, i'm not sure about dex and agility) two strength doesn't just equal one attack. In a way it does, but attack and strength raise different parts of the damage curve. I always confuse which does which, but one of them helps raise maximum damage more, and the other raises your average damage. So at a point increasing one without the other is almost counterproductive.
Like I said, I'm not sure if this applies to dex/acc in any way at all. I just though I'd bring it up.

Dont sell teh snipers! Keep thema nd go farm some money for the Deft RIngs. THey arent that expensive and it wont take long to farm for them.
wow, so much wrong information in this thread im surprised.
first of all:
2 STR = 1 attack (you can easily prove this because attack is not a hidden stat)
2 VIT = 1 def (because defense is also not a hidden stat)
SE has also stated that this is true. STR increases your "damage" curve and ATT increases the potential of reaching the highest damage on your damage curve. although they have a relationship, they work differently. same for VIT and DEF.
however:
2 DEX does not equal 1 accuracy
2 AGI does not equal 1 evasion and 1 parry and 1 r.acc
these are unproven since accuracy, evasion, parry, and r.acc are all hidden stats. SE has not stated how they calculate accuracy, etc... this is all speculation.
