View Full Version : New Obi's from Tavnazian Safehold

There have been many rumors flying about the new obi's obtainable via a quest in Tavnazian Safehold.

I obtained the Hyorin Obi (Gain Full Effect of Iceday/ice weather bonuses) a couple nights ago and was able to do some testing with it last night.

To dispel the first rumor: It doesn't give me the effect of iceday/ice weather 24/7 (at least as far as the sorceror's tonban are concerned).

The item that I was most interested in seeing the effect of this on was the Sorceror's Tonban (BLM Relic pants), as this is the only item that I have that has a day of the week type bonus on it.

The test:

The victim: 1 poor Flamingo in Sky on Iceday

2 Blizzard II no pants no obi: 338 338

3 Blizzard II with pants and no Obi: 360 360 360

(still trying to figure this particular number out, it is 22 dmg more than the above one, the only thing I can think of is the +3 int on the pants)

3 Blizzard II without AF2 pants but with Obi: 371 371 371

Ok very nice here we have a ~10% increase in baseline damage showing that I am recieving the full effects of the day.

3 Blizzard II with both: 394 394 394

15% increase over baseline.

Closed with a Blizzard IV to kill for 1163

Why choose Blizzard II? It is lower level and more likely to cap, and it has a shorter recast to make the test faster. The flamingo was DC and had no debuffs on it at all. I slept it in between casts of Blizzard II.

I haven't done the same test on a non iceday vs a flamingo yet, but based on the damage I was seeing with Blizzard II/III/IV on a non iceday vs the damage I was seeing on iceday, the obi was making the AF2 pants work 100% and was giving a 10% bonus of its own on iceday.

The next test that I will report the results back of are seeing if I can get the effects of Shiva's ring 24/7 with the obi ( I seriously have my doubts about this. )

Based on what I did observe though, certain obi's are definitely going to be worth having for certain situations and times. I plan on getting the thunder, fire, and maybe wind (for those days we happen to fight Kirin on windsday).

I can see how the light belt would be nice to have for whm and rdm but only on lightsday for making the lightsday healing bonus kick in.

As an aside about other gear used in above test.
Aquilo's staff, Zenith Gloves, Moldavite Earring for Magic Attack Bonus adds. I also have Enhanced Ice Magic level 1 Merit ability.

Edit: Math is hard for taru! ;)

AF2 pants always work if you use them on the right day. It's roughly 5% increase in damage (did tests with Bliz IV and Blizzaga III so it was easier to pinpoint a real number).

My best guess with Obi is that instead of a random factor involved in whether your spells with receive the added 10% damage associated with the day's element, you will get the +10% 100% of the time. With AF2 pants on as well, this would be +15% damage every spell.

With BLM Relic pants: +5% for spell cast relative to day.
With obi: +10% for spell cast relative to day and obi.
With weather: +10% for spell cast relative to weather and obi.

Also, someone please explain this to me:

I have never done that much damage even on a MB. I don't have Relic pants or obi, and it was lightning day. My damage looks like it was increased an extra 100%.

hmmm, very interesting.

few questions:

Do all mobs in al'tieu take that much more dmg?

Did it use any TP attacks? Perhaps something that would higher Physical dmg resist and lower magic dmg resist, just a thought.

Very informative.

I don't know what is the best now: Penitent's Rope, or having the 10% day bonus kicking in everytime. Without the Obi, the bonus seems to kick in around 30/50% of the time, but I'm gonna do some extended tests to see if I can get a more precise rate.

Nice pieces of equipment anyway. How did you get it ?

@Asharu: wow this is ... wow. Is your "normal" damage with Thunder IV exactly 50% of that ?

:D

They have phases where they are "berserk" mode and their magic/physical defense lowers unbelievably.

I did extensive killing of those...

Here's the ultra secret cool BLM trick.

Bind it. Wait for its mouth to open, then sleep it.

When its mouth is open they take massive damage.

2 Blizzard IV, 2 sleeps and maybe 3 binds and its dead.

My test with Suiron Obi (water-element) also show that it does not trigger with Leviathan's Water Ring. It does, however, do the advertised +10% damage on watersday as well as +10% damage per rain weather icon.

What non-BLMs would use these belts for, however, I have absolutely no clue.

No one has said how you get them, orz.

how to do

It's a headache rotating staves as is. Rotating in a different belt + staff + whatever else when I use a certain spell is becoming tiresome. But the 10% bonus is so noticeable that I want to get as many of these as I can.

Maybe these are possibly good for synthing as well? I don't know.

Ok, I'm confused if you are testing to see if these obi's activate a piece of equipments weather effect, then why not test it with an effect that's more obvious to see. For example testing it on a Desert Mantle were you get +2 VIT and +2 AGI in a sandstorm.

That should give you a quick and very clear view if the obi's activate those or if they don't. Then the matter of testing each gear to see if they are getting the effect or not has more meaning.

The first thing I can think of is a Red Mage for landing enfeebles more effectively. Just as a wind-based nuke on Windsday may do more damage, wouldn't you also have a higher chance of landing an enfeeble like Silence or Gravity (just as how the elemental staves work with nukes and enfeebles). I guess BRD could use w/e obi is light and earth based.

The obis are specifically made for magic-based jobs. Just like how the gorgets are made for melee-based jobs. It's as simple as that!

The obis seem to benefit BLMs and RDMs the most. A WHM may benefit from using the light-based obi for cure spells, and I'm not sure if the obis would even work with SMN, but I'm assuming they would.

I'm manually changing my int belt to my ice obi belt and back again between spells as I type right now, it's quite painful.

If it already isn't painful enough switching between staves, armor, relic pants, mp regen armor, mp recovery equip, etc etc. :P

EXTREMELY good observation. This makes the dark obi VERY VERY useful. +20% sleep time (Yes, please).

now 7.5/8, tissue is the worst.

It's nice when soloing because can AFK whenever want and get some merit points. I did most duoing with a MNK/WAR as my WHM/SMN for organs and that gave lots of good skillups for cure magic and his guard skill.
