View Full Version : magic burst freeze everytime?
I was just in a party and they were forcing me to magic burst freeze the whole time, is this normal? I thought it was meant to be done on the last chain only.

MB freeze is a nice attack. If the two other members involved in making the SC for you to do that is ready then most likely they'll want that one done. Since that one takes so much time though you have to initate when their SC should start. This way it's likely that MB will occur.
If done right that whole SC and MB brings a monster to near dead or dead. Still though the party does need to be careful of when it's done, if done when the monster has to much HP still then chances are they are setting you up for a suicide. If done to late then you are not get the total potential damage you could do to it.
As for being on the last exp chain, no not really as long as they have the TP for it and your MP can handle it keeping in mind of next possible chain then you should do it. The more monsters you kill faster the better off your chains will be.
You might notice till you get use to the MP use and other adjustments that you'll need to heal on the monsters in-between the MBs. Just time your healings so are at a good time were the monster currently being fought can be finished with little problem (low enough that WHMs MP isn't drained badly). It takes some getting use to, but when you get it down right you'll notice it improving the max chains you get and more chains you can get (at least 5 or 6) the better.

Every BLM goes through this right around level 50 when they get Freeze. Don't worry, the nonstop (!!!1!OMG-1200+DMG!!11!) requests to MB Freeze won't last very long. At 57 you get Blizzaga II which is a much better spell to burst.
MB'ing Ancient Magic is wasteful and dangerous. It really IS only used for chain 5 or manaburn parties. Eventually the people in your group will realize this. Hang in there and I promise it won't be an issue in a few more levels.
What should I tell them I dont cast freeze on every single magic burst? Most likely they will probably boot me from the group =\

There are situations that can make constant Freeze MB's work, it all depends on your party, equipment, and monsters.

Yes, that's actually the best way to put it. What I put is something of an example to that. Our party was PLD, RNG, BLM, WHM, DRK(?) I forgot who I was SC'ing with for the Freeze.
Basically the pattern first Monster was TP gain (BLM was relaxed on spells), second Monster fast kill (BLM started freeze me and other person created SC, after freeze BLM was set on finishing the mob quickly hitting with hard fast spells), third Monster again was TP gain (BLM was relaxed on spells and if needed rested for a freeze and some extra MP), then again fast kill.
Without the BLM assisting we were still able to kill the mob fast enough that we got it's chain and on top of that it helped to give spawns that little extra time so we didn't have to stop till the party was to weakened.
Of course doing that won't always work, but that's something you and your party has to judge. If they want you to bust when theres a chance then just make sure they know that either they'll have to go slower for you to recover or you'll be sitting out through some parts of the monsters fought.
Part of what made that work though is the BLM was using some MP regen foods to speed that up some. If you have a RDM or BRD casting Refresh on you then that'll probably make it possible to cycle doing that as well. Anyway I agree to the point that this guy said, the situation can determine the use.

A ls static party of mine has rdm, brd, nin, war, blm and smn. The blm has so much mp she is afforded the interesting oportunity to cast AM every SC with amazing results. She recently hit a Burst MB for 1834 dmg at lvl 62 while exp'ing off Processionare, obviously the exp was quite good :spin:

Those were my most favorite levels of Black Mage in my opinion... Getting to post the big numbers at level 50ish...
I remember doing a bunch of Burst and Tornado mb's in Crawlers Nest on beetles... I loved being able to make those combos, it was so much fun. It makes you put alot of trust in your paladin...

So that's were the PLDs get such a huge ego from.
PLD: Haha, even with that MB the monster wasn't able to harm the BLM. I'm so 1337

I bought burst for maat later on but not tornado since its not worth buying imo.
I am buying all of the Ancient Magic spells for the sake of completion. I gotta have 'em all. And I enjoy MBing AM. It gives me a sense of power and makes the RNGs in my PT regret thier job decision =P
