View Full Version : Thinking about playing again...

I played FFXI last year for a few months. I had my primary job of WHM up to lvl 33 when I quit. I really had just gotten into the meat of the game as I was just past the point the advanced jobs opened up. I did a few lvl's of BST, but due to time constraints, I quit playing.

Now, I sometimes (sometimes being the key word here...) have a little bit of time to kill and have considered getting back into the game. I usually wouldn't be able play for more than a couple of hours at a time, so my question to you is, "Would it be worth it?"

I know I would have to group to get WHM back up to lvl 30 to open BST and eventually to 37 to potentially have a fully capped sub for BST...and I would have to group to get BLM to 15 (or 17 for warp for when I get WHM high enough for warp) before I get WHM up to 30. I know with my limited playing time that this could take me forever, but am willing to deal with that.

My biggest concern is that I don't want to start playing again if you higher lvl BST's feel that it wouldn't be worth it to play if I can only do so for an hour or so a couple of days a week at best, with rare occasions that I can play for extended periods of time.

Thoughts?

BST is a great job to pick up and lvl a few hours here and there. I do it all the time and my BST is 30 now. It'd be considerably higher but I usually play it drunk, which inevitably loses me a LOT of exp.

My only concern would be your level of commitment. WHM to 30 is a piece of cake, but BST to lvl 20 /sucks/. Even at that point (when you can start to melee w/ your pet and your equip is reasonable) the job is still harder than hell. I'm assuming that changes somewhat at 35, but even with release you don't have 5 other people compensating for mistakes or deficiencies in an exp situation.

That said, I love the job. It's a challenge but an absolute blast. Good luck in whatever you decide to do, but if you aren't gonna stick with the game you might be better served by WoW.

lol that's how I played bst from lv 12 to 40. Just like 2 hrs a day.

And if you really are strapped for time, you can do whm/bst from 30 to 37 as you need it.

You don't HAVE to pt a whm to lv it. many ppl here have done that.

I had whm at 42 and then I soloed it to 44 with a /bst just for fun to see if it can be done. It can. I did it. it's slow, but it's kind of like farming but you get exp too.

good luck ^^

I can home yesterday and leveled BST for an hour (lunchbreak)

WHile pre 35, this would not be much fun, it is perfectly acceptable.

Im currently 44, which means about 8k tnl.
Lunchbreak gave me 1800 (in crawlers nest lol,) which was enough to ding me on 44-
You could take it constructively like this and levle 1-3 levels a week, at least in the <50 category.

Thanks for the input guys. Sudo's point about solo playing WHM was especially interesting to me, as I had wondered about this.

I could have gotten much further with WHM before when I played, but I just didn't party as much as I could have. The primary reason at the time was the RL friend that I was playing with was much slower than me to level. He always wanted me to wait on him, so I spent most of my game time doing misc. things. The funny part was that I usually enjoyed playing/farming with my WHM solo more than partying. I kind of enjoyed the challenge of seeing what I could and couldn't take on by myself as a little Taru with a Hammer. Also, I really liked exploring new places, seeing the sights, and doing town quests.

I know that if I want to play a game primarily by myself, I would be better served staying away from MMORPG's. But the thing is, I like having the "option" to party with others when I choose to.

Hey Sudo, which nation is usually in first place on your server? I would want to create a character on a server where Windy isn't always out of it...

Thanks
