I'm sure most of you know what a pain it is to get the coffer in Garlaige. So this morning, I didnt have tons of time to do anything else, so I went to Garlaige in hopes of getting my BST AF helm. I hung out near Banishing gate #3 for a while killing explosures and dromas with acid grease as pets, then finally a group came to open gate.

A THF with flee ran in ahead of me, so Iw as thinking I had no chance, but after getting to one of the spawns and seeing the THF standing beside it, not opening it, I was like... SWEET.

Went to open it up... no key.... forgot it in Mog safe... /cry :( :sweat:

Camped at exit to Sauromunge with key on me this time, Sunday morning I logged in and it was there. Beast AF Helm acquired /cheer :)

Hehe.. it didnt go ~quite~ as smooth as I made it sound. Yes, Sunday morning all was fine, but I got help from some people to get behind the gate Saturday afternoon, and I was using an Acid Grease to kill Fallen officers while waiting for the Coffer pop. Everything was going smooth, my slimes were owning the bones, even the mage ones. Well, on one, I released the slime a tiny bit early, but I figured my 150% TP Rampage would take care of it. it only hit for 85 dmg and I was still a good 4-5 hits away from killing it... same old story, failed the recharm on the slime, had both attacking me while I tried to zone, died... Due to my location, deep behind gate 3, no one came along and I had to HP. I was so depressed. Everything worked out later though, so its all good.

From me and my duo partner killing them, we only got 1 key after killing mines for several hours. It might have just been bad luck, but I heard the best drop rate for coffer keys were from the weapon types. Yes mines still drop, but the rate seems to vary.

I'm not really sure what your question has to do with my particular situation, but I hope my answer helps.

I was just wondering cause you said you were killing skeles and Ive just got my garliage coffer keys off bombs very quickly before so I though maybe they didnt drop nemore but nothing really to do with your situation.

after killing close to 90 gigas last night on the top lvl.......
The chest spawned (next to Phorphion) for my axe......

and I still had no key :(

There was a lvl 65 drg/thf farming on the same lvl- going after elementals and gigas, and they had sent me a tell earlier asking if I was AF hunting. I replied in the affirmative, and they replied {I See}

We I thought, the sooner someone opens it, the sooner it will respawn...and by then I might have a key.
So I told them where the chest was.

So the DRG turned around invited me to party...then slaughtered every gigas they could find.
Ironically a gigas I found and killed dropped the key- but I was stunned at this.......after hearing all the drg/whm gilselling horrorstories

Long story short-got my axe last night (gman hope you didnt mind me stealing your thread...but this was better than making a new thread)

2 hours, 8 beastman seals 1k xp, 9k gil = AF axe

Ah, I see... no i was killing Fallen Officers (behind banishing gate 3).. they drop regular chest keys (of which I probably got 2-3 lol) not coffer keys. I already had a coffer key, but I just forgot it Friday morning when I posted this topic. I deliberately went to Garlaige to find the coffer, yet forgot my key in Mog Safe... that takes brain power /cheer!

The Skellies youre thinking of are the fallen mages and fallen warriors in the garlaige basement. They drop coffer keys, but im not sure if the rate is better or worse than mines.

My experience with the AF axe was different. I already had the key, but had to roam all the spawn points for hours looking for a chest pop. I finally got it at the bottom of the stairs in between floor 8-9.

GRATZZZ GMAN U PASSED ME BIG TIME, I'm too afraid to go in Garliage solo to get the damn coffer, plus I think Im screwed cause I started my Ranger AF quest which also requires getting something from a chest in Garliage, and I retired rng grr, that chest was such a pain to find for me and getting help was impossible. One of the biggest reasons I gave up Ranger.

You could solo Hellmines at 53 but it would be tough since the bats in the basement are 53-55. Many of them would be tough. At 54 you will be a little safer, but its so easy to die if you fail a charm or cant find a pet. Those bombs hit you hard, especially after they use berserk. The object of course is to have them blow up so you dont have to wory about pet swapping. Sometimes they are just stubborn and wont blow. Anyway, after exp'ing on these for a while, you're bound to get a coffer key.

Also, regarding your ranger quest, dont worry about that. As long as you open the coffer as a BST, it will be the BST helm that you get. If you go as RNG youll get the RNG item.

It is frustrating to find the coffer though, because you need help from 3 other people to get behind those stupid gates. I just camped behind gate 3 for a day and got the coffer.
