Can SMN duo/trio with BST?

Apologies for what may seem like a noobish question, but one I have nonetheless. Some good friends of mine want to level up BST in a trio as something to do in our spare time. No offense, but to date BST hasn't been my favorite job so far (just haven't found it to be my play style, that's all ^^) and I was thinking of a possible alternitive: BST + SMN.

My thinking is that they function in basically the same manor in that they send out critters to do the bulk of attacking for them. Has anyone ever experimented with this? While I realize we may not have 100% the efficency of a BST trio, I was hoping this still might be a viable alternitive.

It might work, but not too well. Avatars wouldnt hit nearly as hard as the pets would, however you wouldnt have to worry about mischarms, finding new pets, etc. And at later levels, some avatars have some useful abilities, so that helps as well.

I think the kills would be slower with a SMN, but the downtime would probably be less due to stoneskin/blink, more curing MP, etc.
