Hey everyone! This is lilschultzy. I am going to be going back to odin as a Taru BLM for main, and I need any tips for a BLM posible :D

As my hume, I learn MP conservation for my WHM, as my hume BLM, I had over 200MP at level 10 (2X astrals) and I chain-casted nukes, used drinks, along withthe other 3 BLMs in my parties (my parties were BLM heavy, mostly elvaan, hume, or galka. no taru or mithra) We had excelent tanks. 3X BLM, 1X pld, 1X war, 1X whm the PLD tanked, the WAR sub-voked (if needed, rarely needed though) the BLMs took huge chunks of MP out of the Lizzy, while the WHM cured the PLD. the PLd cured himself, etc. . I DID however, learn the consequences of taking hate, and the PLD not being able to take it back (MB, yes please!) with my Taru-like HP, and TaruSMN like MP.

I was basically a Taru BLM/WHM as my hume, but with lower INT.

Should I cast a spell, wait, cast, wait, cast? Or should I test the tank out, by that I mean, Nuke a few times, knowing how well he could hold the hate, and then figure how much I can nuke without getting hate, and dealing the MOST damage.

Also, what spells can I use against certain monsters that will do good damage up to level 25?

Any tips would be helpful :D

As a lvl 61 Taru BLM... I can say a few things.

1.) Find your own limits. If you have already played BLM then you should know them already... the only difference between Hume and Taru is that we naturally get more MP... meaning we can cast more and with more damage (due to INT). Just find your own comfort zone and stick with it.

2.) When it comes to casting... you should always cast often, but allowing time for your tanks to retain the hate. Each tank can be very unique... I would be conservative the first 2 battles and then once you see how your tank works (provoking every 30 seconds, self healing, ability to keep hate, etc.) choose how you want to cast. At high levels with my Enmity- gear, it becomes easy for me to cast fast and not worry about hate coming on me (as much).

3.) Taru's DEF vs. Hume DEF is TOTALLY different. With a Hume, you can take a few hits and keep going - with a Taru, sometimes you cant take those few hits at all. Making sure your tank is good at keeping hate is VERY important ~ no one wants to die in 3-4 hits.

4.) As a hume, you had to use MP+ items... dont worry about them as much now. As a Taru, you will have the natural MP boost already. Concentrate on other stat increases... INT and MND are important (im sure I dont have to tell you that).

As for anything else... alot of it pends on the mage. Find your own little groove.... and stick with it. Just dont be a stiff BLM who isnt willing to take risks. Never run from a battle unless you know your death will be in vain... always be willing to help heal...

I hope that helped. If you have any questions... please feel free to PM me, post, or e-mail me. I am a Mentor on FFXI for BLMs, so I can try and help as much as possible.

Important thing to learn with any Blm at the start of a new party is that Tank's limits. You should already know how much Mp you need to conserve to get to chain 5 (unless your sure your party cant do chain 5, in which case plan for the max number of chains your party can accomplish and dont end up with no mp on begining of your last chain...).

Once you know how your tank plays, and how efficient he is at creating hate (along with the weak spots in his hate cycle, so you dont make a big nuke at these points), you can start planning your own cycle. Generally you want to do what you said, cast -> wait -> cast -> wait, but in a diferent manner. Instead of just waiting, try and mix in some low hate spells like Drain, Aspir, Elemental Debuffs, etc. That way your not wasting your time standing there like a idiot between casts.

As a Taru Blm, the real diference is discretion. As a hume you can afford to make a mistake without paying with your life for it, as Taru you dont have that leway. The name of the game is hate control and customizing yourself to the party rather then the other way around.

When I was my hume, I had 3 less HP than the taru's I played with (2X astrals) and I had more MP
