View Full Version : Farewell to my Red Mages!

Like our pal Ruic, it is time for Patch to retire. I won't miss other sections of this forum and I feel like we have a little Red Mage community here, so I wanted to say farewell to you people most of all.

When I first started playing this game, I came to this forum and found out what is expected of Red Mage. I soon found there was a lot to the job and realized that, if played properly, it is one of the most challenging and rewarding of jobs in the game. I could never really enjoy another job because they seemed too simplistic to me, and besides the next piece of armor or spell that seemed identical to a previous spell, there was little in the way of reward. I experimented with a variety of different things playing it and had fun with it, and in the end, I benefited from trying all sorts of things, stupid, crazy, or otherwise.

Playing Red Mage, I felt more rewarded when I did a good job because it was obvious that the party was doing significantly better in no small part because of me. And I admit that I appreciated it when people complimented me for doing a good job, because it means that my work was not going unnoticed.

I admit, I love playing Red Mage solo, and it's what has kept me going in this game the past few months, and the reason I've not progressed much. When a friend asks me what I am doing tonight and I tell her, she says, "Can you really do that?!" Well, as RDM, I can because we are that powerful. So I salute those of you who were able to push on with it and have challenged yourselves at every turn instead of giving in to the ease with which RDM can level up solely because of Refresh with no regard for skill.

Anyhow, I've gone off on some tangent, so I'll refocus.

At later levels, experience sessions require hours at a time to take place, and that kind of dedication is no longer possible for me. Since I don't like any other jobs in this game, and have tried nearly all of them, I've no choice but to stop. Fortunately, the reasons for this lack of time are that my real life is taking off, so it's not a sad time for me.

I will look back on my time as a Red Mage with a smile and I don't regret the time I spent on it because it was great fun. I hope all of you keep pushing the envelope of our most powerful of jobs!

Sayonara~.

Sorry to see you go, Patch.

I believe I arrived at this board almost at the same time you did. It was fun to talk with you on this board and also on PM.

I'm wondering if you successfully kicked shadowlord's ass by yourself by the way.

Good Luck and Have fun in WoW.

Another one lost to the artifical greener pastures of WoW ; ;
You've been a big assest to us all Patch, and I, as a temperate-moderate lowbie will be sad to see you go, due to all the input from your post. Alas! Life goes on, and I wish you the best of luck in any grandeur vision you may have! ^^

I enjoyed conversing with you all, and I only wished that I had any other group of people who were so dedicated to perfecting technique and mastering other games that I play. Most forums are craziness and joking all the time, but in this one, a lot of people are truly looking to be the best at what they do, and are willing to share their glories and techniques with others so we all can do better.

I never said that I was going to WoW here, and I'm not yet because of my lack of time. Without much detail, I am graduating from university, wrapping up my current research position and moving to a new city where I am working for a top research university until I enter graduate school there (hopefully I get in).

However, I have a lot of friends playing WoW and plan to do so as well when I get settled in at my new home and have some free time. It doesn't require the time dedication of FFXI, so I think I can play it. Besides, I can't resist creating a Tauren Warrior named Bloodtear. (If anyone is interested in a PvP Horde guild on Dragonmaw, you can PM me... it's pretty large so far and hopefully I join by January^^;)

As for Shadowlord... I showed up and he was too scared to face me. I decided on the rule that I could only use alchemy potions that I could synth myself, so I brought a stack of blind potions (for my bat earrings per Grendal's suggestion), a number of Hi-pots and Hi-ethers and some echo drops (not needed AFAIK) plus some Yagudo drinks and Pamama au Lait. I guess when he saw me walking up, he got frightened by my vicious face, pointy sword, and Frog Trousers.

Anyhow, I believe he can be killed by a 62RDM/WAR Tarutaru, and if I were still able to play, I'd probably delevel myself (since I was only 3K into 63) and try it. I recommend this challenge to any 62RDM of any race, though, because I think it would be very difficult but also very fun. I'm not sure if a RDM/NIN could do it in time because of Utsusemi recasting, but with the % to DEF added by Defender and our access to high DEF and evasion items, I think /WAR is perfect for it. Maybe I'm biased, though. Good luck.^^

Finally, I missed Meatwall the past few months so hi Jubs.

Patch, you were the first person that showed me true rdm power so long ago. You were always a good mentor for me and i'm sure many other rdms that you have come across.

In the end however real life > ffxi/games. Good luck in real life, it's sad to see you go;;
