Even though it has been several months since my last pictoral collection, rumors of my demise have been greatly exagerated. Special thanks to everyone on the Leviathan server who badger me continuously to continue creating these photo journals. Without your support, none of this would ever have been possible.

This photojournal could best be described as my greatest work, having been almost 6 months in the making. It is the largest collective pictoral storyline I have ever produced (300+ images), and I hope will make amends for the long months of waiting.

It is my distinct pleasure to present these images to all of you on this, the 1 year anniversary of FFXI for the PC. Before we begin, i'd like to explain that the Zilart missions take place after the conclusion of the regular game's storyline, which can be found in a previous photo journal (http://www.ffxionline.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=36692&highlight=shadow+lord). Please note that this thread also contains spoilers on the storyline for those of you who have yet to experience it. Please be advised that I bear no responsiblity for ruining the plot twists Square Enix has crafted into these epic tales - you have been warned.

The Zilart storyline deals with the history of Vana'diel and the power of the Crystals.

On with the show.....

Our storyline begins where we last left off. The Shadow Lord has been defeated - peace returns to the land, or has it?

The adventures of the Red Mage known as Arliman was thought to have come to a close. With the vanquishing of the Shadow Lord, she had retired her saber and feathered hat and looked forward to a return to peaceful days, but this was not to be.

The world would continue under the threat of darkness, claming the lives of those we hold most dear. After the tragic loss of her companion, the Dark Knight Neximus - it was time for Arliman to choose a new path. She swore to carry the torch left for her by her long lost friend. Over a period of months, she had trained in the ways of warfare, becoming a fierce Dark Knight so that she could continue her mission in the steps of her fallen comrade.

"Though it had been months since our last meeting, I remember clearly Lion's invitation to visit her in Norg on Elshimo Island."

**** Zilart Mission 1: Total Recall ****

I arrive in the cavern settlement of Norg, known to be a den of pirates and brigands. I enter unarmed for fear of being seen as an enemy.

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM1-1.jpg

I am approached by one of the gate guards. Apparently the locals don't have much in the way of hospitality.

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM1-2.jpg

Lion comes to my aid before an argument can ensue. The brigand leaves us to talk amongst ourselves.

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM1-3.jpg

Lion speaks to me about our last meeting. What exactly *did* happen in Castle Zvhal?

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM1-4.jpg

Suddenly my head begins to spin and the world around me begins to blur away...

My lost memory begins to play back like a recording. I see myself standing alongside Zeid and the Galka Talekeeper Raogrimm, recently released from his sentence as the Shadow Lord... but something is different.

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM1-6.jpg

Raogrimm recounts his experience as the entity that covered the world in a blanket of fear.

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM1-7.jpg

He begins to explain the burden he held as Talekeeper, and the hatred of the Galka across history.

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM1-8.jpg

His treatise on the condition of all living things is insightful, but would be cut short.

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM1-9.jpg

Applause!? Almost mockingly two figures appear behind us, clapping along to the tragedy that had unfolded.

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM1-10.jpg

The.. archduke of Jeuno and his little brother!?!? What madness is this?

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM1-11.jpg

The boy, Eald'narche, mocks Raogrimm.

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM1-12.jpg

Zeid is particular shocked. What are the royalty of Jeuno doing in the castle of the Shadow Lord?

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM1-13.jpg

The Archduke approaches us in an effort to explain.

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM1-14.jpg

In his mocking tone, we are dismissed as a nuisance...

Zeid demands an explaination.

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM1-16.jpg

Smugly, Kam'lanaut begins to explain about the Crystal Line.

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM1-17.jpg

Eald'narche reveals that he and his brother are Zilart.

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM1-18.jpg

Raogrimm is struck with disbelief. The Zilart civilization perished millenia ago. How could they be members of that ancient race?

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM1-19.jpg

The boy recites the ancient legend, declaring that life on Vana'diel - at this point, is meaningless.

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM1-20.jpg

Eld'narche declares that the world belongs to the Zilart, and that noone would stand in their way.

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM1-21.jpg

Both of the dukes approach the sarcophagus of the Shadow Lord and discuss the situation.

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM1-22.jpg

They stand before the tomb and the magicite - what could they be planning?

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM1-23.jpg

The boy senses something...

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM1-24.jpg

He smiles to realize that something is approaching... The Minions of the Crystal!

Archduke Kam'lanaut dramatically sentences us and the rest of the planet to death!

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM1-26.jpg

He summons forth the Warriors of the Crystal.

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM1-27.jpg

Above them, five radiant jewels appear and begin radiating an eerie light.

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM1-28.jpg

We can do nothing but stare in disbeleif at the event unfolding before our eyes.

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM1-29.jpg

As the light from the crystals subside, I open my eyes to see a tall Elvaan female with pale skin and cold red eyes looking down upon me. She is garbed in demonic armor.

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM1-30.jpg

As I recoil, I see that she is not the only one. There five such warriors standing before us - protecting the archdukes. So these are the Crystal Warriors.

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM1-31.jpg

Sensing that these particular warriors of legend have malicious intent, Zeid draws his blade.

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM1-32.jpg

With frightening speed he rushes them...

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM1-33.jpg

His leaping attack is repelled by Kam'lanauts powers!

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM1-34.jpg

Zeid is tossed back, his blade lands behind him, impedding itself in the hard, cold stone.

Kam'lanaut grows tired of our antics and commands the Crystal Warriors to attack!

The Hume Crystal Warrior steadily approaches us.

His cold, expressionless gaze could only mean one thing... someone was about to die.

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM1-41.jpg

Lion comes to the rescue. Hellooooo FANSERVICE!

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM1-42.jpg

She tells us to leave - the situation was approaching fatal levels.

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM1-43.jpg

A dazed Zeid calls out to his longtime companion.

Raogrimm stands between Zeid and the rampaging warrior - taking both blades into his chest.

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM1-48.jpg

Zeid pulls back in shock. Raogrimm traded his life for his own.

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM1-49.jpg

The Crystal Warrior, confused, pulls his blades from the injured Talekeeper. Raogrimm drops to his knees.

Lion prepares a countermeasure to the attack.

A concerned Zeid tends to his fallen swordmaster.

Zeid pulls me to my feet and together with Lion, we flee the throneroom.

Bravely, the injured Raogrimm faces down the awful quintet of Crystal Warriors.

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM1-58.jpg

Calling forth the powers of the land, Raogrimm concentrates one last time...

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM1-59.jpg

And assumes the form of the Shadow Lord!

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM1-60.jpg

**** Zilart Mission 2: Welcome t'Norg ****

After taking a few moments to regain my composure, I set out to meet up with Lion and her companion. After clearing with the security, I am escorted into the room.

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM2-1.jpg

Lion greets me as I approach the stairs. She introduces me to...

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM2-2.jpg

Gilgamesh, lord of Norg and pirate extraordinaire... and her DAD!?

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM2-3.jpg

Gilgamesh ponders the news that the archdukes of Jeuno are members of the Zilart race.

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM2-4.jpg

Lion tries to find meaning in the old folksong - could the bane of Vana'diel be the people!?

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM2-5.jpg

Gilgamesh discounts her thoughts, telling us that he had no intention of going out without a fight!

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM2-6.jpg

Lion asks Gilgamesh for a solution. How can the plans of the archdukes be stopped?

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM2-7.jpg

The pirate lord recommends we investigate the Temple of Uggalepih.

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM2-8.jpg

The temple, he states, is located deep within the Yhotar Jungle.

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM2-9.jpg

Gilgamesh goes on to tell us about his experience within the ancient ruin.

Gilgamesh ventured there thinking he could unearth lost treasure.

He would come to find the image of an old woman and a cryptic message.

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM2-12.jpg

He tells us to seek the old woman in the temple, as she might have insight on the Zilart.

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM2-13.jpg

But, before we go to the temple, we should stop by Kazham to speak with their chieftaness for aid.

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM2-14.jpg

Suddenly, the door opens... we have an uninvited guest.

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM2-15.jpg

Lion recognizes the stranger. Its Aldo, leader of the Tenshodo.

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM2-16.jpg

Swathed in his exotic robes, the enigmatic figure approaches us.

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM2-17.jpg

He tells us of the disappearance of his sister Varena.

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM2-18.jpg

Lion symapathizes and pledges her aid in finding the lost girl.

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM2-19.jpg

Aldo appreciates her aid, but tells her that he needs to search for more information around Jeuno. Knowing that archduke Kam'lanaut is up to no good is reason enough for his concern.

***** Zilart Mission 3: Kazham's Chieftaness *****

I omitted the images for this mission as it is little more than getting the temple key from the chieftaness. Little to no bearing on the overall storyline. I might add these later for completion, but not right now. I know... bad kitty.

/em slaps her own wrists.

**** Zilart Mission 4: The Temple of Uggalepih ****

After receiving the Sacrificial Chamber Key from Kazham's Chieftaness - myself and my fellow companions would delve deep into the Temple of Uggalepih, home of a sect of murderous beastmen known as Tonberries. After hours of searching, we find ourselves outside the Sacrificial Chamber.

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM4-1.jpg

Upon entering the chamber, we are attacked by three master Tonberries and battle ensues.

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM4-2.jpg

With blade drawn, I close the attack on one of the freakish little monsters.

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM4-3.jpg

With the battle swung in our favor, a voice tells us to drop our weapons. The beasts comply.

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM4-4.jpg

The ethereal image of an old woman appears and begins to speak.

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM4-5.jpg

She apologizes about her companions, as they are simply shades of their former selves.

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM4-6.jpg

She introduces herself as one of the Kuluu, an ancient race that eventually devolved into the Tonberries.

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM4-7.jpg

She asks us to listen to her tale, the tale of a tragedy that took place over 10,000 years ago.

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM4-8.jpg

The story begins with the power of the crystals, a power that the ancient Zilart race used to build their advanced civilization.

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM4-9.jpg

She spoke of the Zilart's plan to open the Gate of the Gods, to return to paradise. The Kuluu and the Dawnmaidens (servants of the Goddess Altana) spoke out against their plan.

The Zilart would channel the power of the crystals from beneath each crag to their shrines via an elaborate network of circuits known as "The Crystal Line".

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM4-11.jpg

The power pulled from each crag would be channeled to Delkfutt's Tower to energize the floating city of Tu'Lia: Gate of the Gods. Both the Zilart (black robes) and the Kuluu (white tunics) lay witness to the activation of the Crystal Line.

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM4-12.jpg

Fearing for the fate of the planet after the fruition of the Zilart's insane plans, the Kuluu led a raid on the control tower known as Fey'in, destroying the facility. The resulting damage caused a meltdown of the Crystal Line - which obliterated the Zilart capitol, sinking it into the sea.

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM4-13.jpg

With her parting words, the Kulu Grav'iton bade us to journey to Zepwell Island and the remains of an ancient temple. But first, we had to gather eight elemental prayers from Cermet Headstones scattered around the land.

**** Zilart Mission 5: Headstone Pilgrimmage ****

This leg of the journey would take us to the far reaches of Vana'diel in search of elemental fragments lodged within Cermet Headstones. In the interest of time and space, i'm only presenting three images of this portion of the quest. Note, there is no storyline interlude for this segment, and is a simple easter egg hunt. The story continues with Zilart Mission 6.

Here we approach the Cermet Headstone in Sanctuary of Zi'Tah to obtain the Fragment of Light.

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM5-1.jpg

Upon touching the headstone, we were attacked by an undead flesh NM known as the Doomed Pilgrim. Certainly one of the more dramatic of the four headstone fights.

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM5-2.jpg

One of the headstones was located deep within Yhotar Jungle, but to reach it, we had to journey through the volcano known as Ifrit's Cauldron.

**** Zilart Mission 6: Through the Quicksand Caves ****

With all eight elemental fragments in hand, we would follow the words of Grav'iton and seek out the fallen temple hidden within the sands of Zepwell Island. Originally home of the Galka, remnants of their mighty civilization still loom high from the desert sands. Here is the great Altepa Gate mechanism.

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM6-1.jpg

Going beneath the sands, we would navigate through the catacombs of the lost Galka city, now a hive for the mighty Antican beastmen. Here we see the rich tapestry of heiroglyphics of the lost Galka civilization.

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM6-2.jpg

At last, we entered the Chamber of Oracles and a Cermet Transporter that would lead us into the temple itself.

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM6-3.jpg

No sooner had we entered the Temple were we faced down by three Antican lords. The fight was brutal but we emerged victorious, though Naea took an Eage Eye Shot to the face and took a well deserved dirt-nap before the last bug fell.

**** Zilart Mission 7: The Chamber of Oracles ****

With the temple invaders destroyed, I enter the final transporter into the inner sanctum of the shrine.

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM7-1.jpg

Emerging into the inner chamber, I notice a large device with eight distinct openings.
I begin to place each elemental fragment in their corresponding depressions.

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM7-2.jpg

Once all eight were placed, there is a reaction!

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM7-3.jpg

Slightly shocked, I am taken aback. The entire device begins to hum with activity.

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM7-4.jpg

The center dias begins to activate...

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM7-5.jpg

The faceplate illuminates with the power of the crystalline fragments.

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM7-6.jpg

Suddenly the entire room is aglow with soft light.

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM7-7.jpg

To my suprise, Zeid enters the chamber.

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM7-8.jpg

The device begins to vibrate with intensity.

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM7-9.jpg

Suddenly, an image appears before us. It appears to be a recording of one of the ancient Dawnmaidens, the original servants of the goddess Altana.

The image began to recount the memory of the Zilart and their plan. It all began when the elder prince of the Zilart made a connection with the crystal.

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM7-11.jpg

The vision given to the prince was that of the gods and their paradise.

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM7-12.jpg

The prince was convinced that the power of the five crystals would lead them back to paradise.

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM7-13.jpg

He beleived that when the five crystals were joined as one, the Gate of the Gods would open a doorway to paradise.

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM7-14.jpg

As the princes feverishly chased after this dream, the Kuluu and the Dawnmaidens protested.

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM7-15.jpg

Their pleas would fall onto deaf ears. The Zilart were single-minded in their goal.

Both Kam'lanaut and Eald'narche would not be diverted from their course of action.

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM7-17.jpg

The Kuluu and Dawnmaidens pleaded. If the world would become a playground for the gods, what of those who lived on Vana'diel? The creation of this paradise would lead to the distruction of life as they knew it. The Zilart would *still* not be swayed.

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM7-18.jpg

Thus did the Zilart create the floating island of Tu'Lia above one of their temples. This palace in the sky would become the Gate of the Gods through the power of the Crystal Line : When the power of the five crystals become one.

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM7-19.jpg

The Dawnmaidens recount of the destruction of the Zilart due to the Kuluu sabotage of the Crystal Line. Though that entire civilization was destroyed, the Kuluu cannot be blamed for their actions. Had they not acted, the entire world would have faced annihalation.

We were then warned of the Zilart plan to renew their pursuit of paradise through the reactivation of Tu'Lia. They must be stopped or the world faced imminent danger.

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM7-21.jpg

The Dawnmaidens pleaded with us to take responsibility for ownership of Vana'diel and stop the Zilart from ruining the world for eternity.

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM7-22.jpg

With their last words, we are directed to Delkfutt's Tower to halt the plans of the Zilart princes once and for all.

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM7-23.jpg

And so, as abruptly as the device came to life, did it lapse into quiescence.

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM7-24.jpg

Suddenly, particles of energy begin to swirl about the device.

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM7-25.jpg

The particles increase in number and begin to combine in a dazzling display of light.

**** Zilart Mission 8: Return to Delkfutt's Tower ****

We run into Lion and Aldo shortly after entering Delkfutt's Tower. Aldo beleives Varena is here, in the captivity of the Archdukes.

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM8-1.jpg

Zeid chastises Lion and Aldo for coming to the Tower. Without the Prismatic Fragment, the strange crystal left behind by the Dawnmaidens, they had no hope of entering the upper chamber of the Tower. Lion states the obvious, she came to the tower to follow Zeid and I into facing Kam'lanaut and Eald'narshe.

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM8-2.jpg

Aldo apologizes and makes his introduction, warning Zeid not to get in his way. He prays that Varena can hold out until he can rescue her.

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM8-3.jpg

Within the top level, the Stellar Fulcrum, a lone figure assesses the equipment.

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM8-4.jpg

It is Archduke Kam'lanaut himself that looks over the device.

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM8-5.jpg

The Archduke senses someone approaching.

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM8-6.jpg

Zeid appears behind Kam'lanaut with sword at the ready.

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM8-7.jpg

Aldo confronts the archduke from the opposite side.

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM8-8.jpg

Suddenly Lion appears on the third bridge. Kam'lanaut is surrounded.

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM8-9.jpg

Mockingly, he tells us that we have arrived in time to witness the activation of the Chrysalis Core, the heart of Delkfutt's Tower.

Aldo demands an explaination of the device.

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM8-11.jpg

Kam'lanaut explains the device - that with its regeneration, the path to Tu'Lia will be restored!

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM8-12.jpg

Lion is shocked, she assumed that with the destruction of the Crystal Line, Tu'Lia was destroyed.

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM8-13.jpg

Kam'lanaut explains, that like he and the surviors of his race, Tu'Lia slumbered for thousands of years until the moment of its awakening was at hand.

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM8-14.jpg

Lion then understands the truth. After the downfall of their civilization, the princes of Zilart slept in suspended animation within Delkfutts Tower itself for over 10,000 years.

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM8-15.jpg

He explains that when Raogrimm came into contact with the Crystal of the North thirty years ago, his transformation into the Shadow Lord caused a backflow of energy to Delkfutt's Tower, which is what woke them from their slumber, and gave them an opportunity to realize their dreams once more.

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM8-16.jpg

Zeid challenges Kam'lanaut's motives. The Zilart were wiped out because of the actions of the princes. What more suffering did he plan to cause chasing these long lost dreams?

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM8-17.jpg

Kam'lanaut calmly explains that all life, no matter the race, beleives in a gate to paradise.

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM8-18.jpg

Zeid is speechless.

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM8-19.jpg

Kam'lanaut conjectures that this paradise, this perfect place suited only for the gods is not intended for the current lifeforms of the planet. Rather, they are lowly vermin, unworthy of such a treasure.

Aldo dismisses Kam'lanaut's tale as selfish manipulations and voices his defiance.

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM8-21.jpg

The archduke finds Aldo's resistance amusing.

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM8-22.jpg

Kam'lanaut, in his megolomania, states that he is the will of the crystal itself.

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM8-23.jpg

With his great power, the power hungry lord of Jeuno summons his minions.

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM8-24.jpg

He calls out to his vassals, the terrifying Crystal Warriors, once more.

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM8-25.jpg

As his command, the legendary quintet of armored warriors appear before them. Lion, Zeid and Aldo are faced down.

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM8-26.jpg

Even against Zeid, the Galka Crystal Warrior is imposing.

The Elvaan Crystal Warrior stares down Aldo with her glaring red eyes.

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM8-28.jpg

To ensure his security, Kam'lanaut is flanked by both the Mithra and Tarutaru Crystal Warrior.

The seal opens, revealing a long path into the Fulcrum itself.

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM8-32.jpg

I arrive at the Chrysalis Core to see a crowd gathered on top of the device.

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM8-33.jpg

Kam'lanaut sees me enter the room and bades me welcome. He intends to kill me with his own hands.

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM8-34.jpg

Concentrating his energy, he calls out to the power of the Crystal.

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM8-35.jpg

He harnesses the essence of dark energy onto himself.

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM8-36.jpg

His image begins to fade and fluxuate as the energy builds to a climax.

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM8-37.jpg

Suddenly he vanishes, and pure energy flows out from the device, bathing the Chrysalis Crystal in a beam of pure light.

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM8-38.jpg

The energy subsides and the room is alive with a strange electricity.

A long haired warrior clad in strange armor comes into focus.

Levatating before our eyes, we realize the warrior... is Kam'lanaut!

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM8-43.jpg

Gripped in his hand is a strange ornate blade that seemed to be an extension of his armor.

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM8-44.jpg

With his final approach, a burst of energy is released from him, signifying the completion of his transformation.

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM8-45.jpg

The battle in engaged!

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM8-46.jpg

High above us, the twisted Lord of the Zilart uses powerful magic against us. Area of Effect Gravity, Dispel and Silence are just a few aspects of his repertoire.

He begins to charge his sword weapon skill "Light Blade".

He strikes at our Paladin, Strevone, with murderous intent. Light Blade inflicts a terrible blow!

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM8-49.jpg

Eventually, the Zilart prince falls to our might.

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM8-55.jpg

Lion makes the realization that Eald'narche is the elder prince of Zilart, the same prince who first received the vision of paradise.

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM8-78.jpg

Eald'narche reveals that he is indeed the elder prince, and that appearances can be deceiving. His growth was stopped the moment he first came into contact with the Crystal.

The prince explains how the reactivation of the Chrysalis Core was interrupted when Raogrimm came into contact with the Crystal. Now that he has been completely removed, the "noise" that prevented their reactivation of the Chrysalis Core was gone.

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM8-81.jpg

He continues on, speaking of the great nuisance the Galka Talekeeper was in postponing their plans. Zeid in particular is outraged.

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM8-82.jpg

Eald'narche explains that not even Raogrimm himself understood his relationship with the Crystal. His memories of his race weren't what was important - it was his blood. As such, killing him would give them the tool they needed for finally reactivating the Core.

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM8-83.jpg

Aldo clarifies that even IF the Zilart had access to the blood of the Talekeeper, they would not have the ability to use it with Raogrimm dead.

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM8-84.jpg

Eald'narche agrees with Aldo, but explains that his younger sister Varena resonates with the souls of beastmen, just like the Shadow Lord was able to. He would use her power to unlock the "memories of the ancients" with the remains of the Shadow Lord - namely, his disembodied head.

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM8-85.jpg

Only then, he explained, could the Chrysalis Core return to life, activating the portal to Tu'Lia: Gate of the GOds.

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM8-86.jpg

Eald'narche continues to explain that once he returns to Tu'Lia he can continue his preparations to open the Gate of the Gods itself.

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM8-87.jpg

With his command, Varena assumes her position in the center of the device.

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM8-91.jpg

More energy begins to surge about Varena's feet. The machine begins to crackle with activity.

Eald'narche appears pleased with his work. His puppets continue to dance on their strings.

Suddenly, the energy well beneath the crystal core begins to pulsate with liquid light.

This illuminated fluid begins to gather, sending bubbles of energy floating up into the crystal itself.

The crytal begins to resonate - glowing brightly as more of the energy flows into it.

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM8-96.jpg

Instantly, the platform above the crystal explodes with violent energy and light. Varena, the head of the Shadowlord and Eald'narche are consumed in the brilliance.

Suddenly, the platform erupts in a beam of blinding light and fires into an apparatus in the roof of the ceiling.

**** Zilart Mission 10/11: The Temple of Desolation & Hall of the Gods ****

I decided that since both of these missions overlap very closely, it would make more sense to include it as a single episode instead of a long interlude and an incredibly breif one.

After leaving Norg, I made my way to Crag Mea courtesy of my companion White Mage and rented a chocobo to ride through the Meriphtaud Mountains and into the forest of the Sanctuary Zi'tah.

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/hall_of_gods/hog6.jpg

After riding for an eternity through the trees, I made my way to the ruin Kamui spoke of - the lost city of Ro'Mave shortly before dawn.

The place was littered with arcana creatures and mechanical artifices. After stealthily wandering around the city, I found my way to the steps toward to great temple.

Entering the Temple itself, I was overcome with a great sadness as an eerie chorus filled my ears.

At the end of the walkway, beneath the visage of the Goddess Altana, I came to a sealed gate.

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM10-3.jpg

I would have to return to Norg and tell Gilgamesh of my findings. Perhaps he knew of a way that I could pass this gate and search further. As I turned to leave the temple, I noticed the image of the God of Twilight, Promathia, bound in chains above the exit from the chamber. The sight gave me a chill I will never forget. I had no desire to dally in such a forsaken place and quickly left.

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/hall_of_gods/hog29.jpg

At my wits end, I returned to Gilgamesh's office in search of more answers.

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM10-4.jpg

When I told him of the strange crystal depression inside the gate, he thought it best I seek the aid of a Mithra who tried to sell him jewels from that region. She was currently in Norg, trying to pawn off her findings stolen from the ancient city.

Hey Arli, you mind if I use these screenshots to help write my game script? Like I'm doing with Faluzure and the Promathia missions? (Your screenshots for Zilart seem to be a lot more complete and easier to find then his)

I'll credit you in the guide of course.

Not a problem, though I do ask you to save them and host them if they are going to be used on any other site than this one. This is a ton of bandwidth to be moving around as it is.

Thanks for the kind words, but the story isn't quite over yet ^^. On with the show...

*** Zilart Mission 12: The Mithra and the Crystal ***

Following Gilgamesh's words, I journey to Rabao to speak with this Mithran theif. She tells me that she does have a number of baubles from her last trip to Zi'Tah and the ruins therein - but she had no intention of handing over her treasures without something of value. She directs us to search in a remote region of Quicksand Caves for something to barter with. That lost empire was massive, surely there must have been something worthwhile hidden down there.

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM12-1.jpg

Without another word, my companions and I set out in Chocobo into the most remote region of Western Altepa Desert to find this lost entrance into the Quicksand Caves.

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM12-2.jpg

Finding our way down deep into the catacombs of the ancient city, we find a massive hole blown into the floor. We investigate further.

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM12-3.jpg

After falling down the whole, we investigate a curious object jutting out of the base of a limestone column. We are suddenly attacked by an arcane monster, the Ancient Vessel! After its defeat we found an old peice of parchment with strange words written on it. We decide to take it back to the Mithran treasure hunter.

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM12-4.jpg

Upon our return Maryoh is overjoyed to see we have returned with something of value. She begins to tell us of her travels within Ro'Maeve and the strange crystal she found.

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM12-5.jpg

She thanks us for searching the Caves on her behalf. She was content knowing that there were treasures within - and in exchange for that knowledge, I was presented with a cerulean crystal. Perhaps now I could open the gate that barred my way further into the Hall of the Gods.

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM12-6.jpg

Before heading out on what would be the last leg of my long journey, I couldn't help but wonder about Aldo and Varena, so I returned to Jeuno to pay them a visit and resupply before returning to Ro'Maeve. Aldo welcomes us, but his concern for his sister has made him a poor host.

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM12-7.jpg

Aldo gives us his theory about what Eald'narche did to his sister...

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM12-8.jpg

He begins to argue with himself and his frustration with the situation is evident.

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM12-9.jpg

As Aldo consumes himself in self-pity Varena awakens, sitting up in bed and listens to us.

Aldo realizes that his sister has awakened. He is concerned about her memory.

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM12-11.jpg

Varena tells him that she doesn't quite remember all of the events, she says it was like watching from a distance.

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM12-12.jpg

Aldo comforts her. I could tell a huge weight was lifted off his shoulders the moment Varena returned to him.

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM12-13.jpg

Aldo appreciates our concern, but tells us that he doesn't think he can continue on being one of Eald'narche's pawns.

**** Zilart Mission 13: The Gate of the Gods ****

After saying my goodbyes to Aldo and Varena, we set out from Jeuno to Ro'Maeve and what was hopefully the last leg of our journey. Arriving in the forgotten city, my companions and I make our way to the Temple of Desolation.

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM13-1.jpg

The large cathedral welcomed us into its massive entrance.

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM13-2.jpg

With anticipation, we race feverishly into the Hall of the Gods.

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM13-3.jpg

We stop for a moment to pay hommage to the holy images within...

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM13-4.jpg

Gathering at the Cermet Grate, we prepare to use the Cerulean Crystal to gain entry into the inner sanctum.

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM13-5.jpg

Apparently, we were expected. Both Aldo and Zeid appear out of the shadows.

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM13-6.jpg

Despite his earlier reluctance, Aldo confirms his dedication to stopping the evil plans of the Zilart prince.

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM13-7.jpg

Zeid is unsure of the meaning of Eald'narche's words when we confronted him in Delkfutts Tower, but he knew the cerulean crystal was the key to that mystery.

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM13-8.jpg

I nod in agreement. Soon we would find out exactly what he meant by "blessed by the light."

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM13-9.jpg

Upon approaching the grate, the cerulean crystal begins to resonate as I place it into the depression. The doorway illuminates and a shaft of shoots from the stone.

Awesome! Just a correction, in the first screenshot you posted after you took that semi-break, you said the town you travelled to (with the Mithra THF in it) was Norg. Judging by the screenshots, that looks like Rabao to me. Just wanted to point that out. ^^

Grats on the Dynamis invite, too~

Arli

The grate vanishes into nothingness and we walk beyond its threshold.

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM13-11.jpg

No sooner do we walk in does the gate rematerialize behind us. There was no turning back now.

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM13-12.jpg

I run ahead into the passageway and see steps before me.

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM13-13.jpg

We head up the short stairway and find ourselves in a large, quiet room with a curious device.

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM13-14.jpg

At long last, it seemed as if the end was near. Our group takes a moment to celebrate before investigating further.

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM13-15.jpg

We approach the dias in the middle of the device.

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM13-16.jpg

Zeid states the obvious - we cannot proceed any further...

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM13-17.jpg

Aldo is also confused. Could it be that we were not accepted by the light?

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM13-18.jpg

Suddenly, a swirl of light appears before us.

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM13-28.jpg

The image of a Dawnmaiden appears and greets us. She introduces herself as Yve'noile, servant of the goddess.

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM13-29.jpg

Arli
10-30-2004, 11:07 AM
Yve'noile explains that all the Zilart, including the boy - are bound to the same fate.

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM13-30.jpg

Summoning an image, she explains about the power of the five crystals.

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM13-31.jpg

She continues on to tell of how the Zilart harnessed the crystals and what happened when the meltdown of the Crystal Line occured.

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM13-32.jpg

She clarifies about the origin of the smaller crystals found throughout the land, as well as the development of the five races from the aftermath.

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM13-33.jpg

She continues to clarify that even the race-defined traits of each species, from the Galka's rage to the Tarutaru's cowardice, are all results of the energy released into the world from the meltdown. The belief that these traits were an ancient curse placed on the people of Vana'diel from the Twilight God were simply untrue.

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM13-34.jpg

She tells of how the world lost its perfection when Eald'narche's plans for paradise had failed. Therefore we could see how his desire to return the world to a state of new perfection could be so strong.

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM13-35.jpg

She summons forth a spiral of glowing runes in thin air.

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM1-35a.jpg

Finally, the gate to Tu'Lia is opened.

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM1-35b.jpg

Before her departure, Yve'noile begs of us to release Eald'narche and the collective conciousness of the Zilart from their ill-fated curse.

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM13-36.jpg

As her image fades away, she sings to us a verse from an ancient melody. Aldo and Zeid continue to listen closely.

I feel the energy from the dias swell inside me. I kneel and feel my flesh begin to dissipate.

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM13-38.jpg

Suddenly, the feeling of dissociation courses through my body as I become pure energy.

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM13-39.jpg

The energy begins to raise towards the portal.

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM13-40.jpg

In a blinding display of light, I am fired from the device like a cannon.

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM13-41.jpg

My companions and I emerge inside a cermet structure with an invisible floor.

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM13-42.jpg

Running to the gate of the building, I am amazed by the floor that seemed to materialize out of nowhere.

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM13-43.jpg

I emerge from the building to lay my eyes on a city lost to time: Tulia, the Gate of the Gods.

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM13-44.jpg

Behind me, Aldo and Zeid emerge from the portal.

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM13-45.jpg

Aldo voices his defiance against the Crystal Warriors and Eald'narche.

Both Zeid and Aldo have no intention of fading away without showing the Zilart prince and his goons what they're made of.

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM13-47.jpg

With parting words, we decide to split up and seach the floating island in the sky for the rogue adolecent Eald'narche.

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM13-48.jpg

My companions marvel at our surroundings. I am in awe of the clounds that swirled below us.

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM13-49.jpg

We gather into the portal on the gateway island and teleport to the central isle.

http://www.rpgfan.com/userdirs/tenchi/zilart/ZM13-50.jpg

At long last, we had finally set foot in Tu'Lia's Ru'Aun Gardens.

Sorry about the small mistakes, due to the sheer size of this gallery of images, I haven't even had a chance to read through all of it yet, but all corrections should be made by tomorrow morning (at work atm).

We were able to do all of the missions over 3 days (roughly 8-10 hours) at level 70 with very little difficulty. The fight against Kam'lanaut was overrated, though when we did him a second time for an LS mate we had two fatalities due to him using Light Blade 2 times immediately after Great Wheel (resets hate) which dropped me and the RDM in a matter of seconds.

The majority of the Zilart storyline is traveling and storyline cinemas. The cermet headstone portion of the missions takes a good long while, especially the jog through Ifrit's Cauldron.

Personally I wouldn't recommend anything below level 68, though a good balanced team of 65s could probably make it through all the battles with some difficulty. My only advice is to take your time and make the appropriate provisions for each mission. Rushing through these at anything less than level 70 will meet with failure. The fights aren't too bad, but if you're unprepared and uninformed about the enemy, you're toast.

Wow that's strange, my static pt of lvl 70 just did these also. I totally agree with the ZM8 battle hype, our whm is also a lvl 75 smn, and he had told us this was the hardest battle, along with some ls mates that said we might not be able to beat it at our level. But we beat him quickly with no problems and no deaths

ZM missions were amazing, and this gallery certainly does them justice. Keep up the good work

i can't speak for Arliman, but when i did them, i did 5-13 in 1 night from 8:30 until 7 AM (had fun in class the next morning)

i did zm4 a day or two before that. as far as when you can do them, we did it as 70 drk, 70 whm, 66 rng, 66 blm (me), 62 drg, 67 pld.

fighting zm8 sucked horribly and we almost lost, but the ranger went nuts and took like 1/3 of it's HP down at the end. the 62 drg was more-or-less worthless for it besides trying to provoke it off the mages after it reset hate. as a red mage, you could probably get by being like 62-65 or so. having said that, there's really nothing in sky for you to do until 70+ so it's not a big rush
