View Full Version : Importance of haste

is it me, or do mages not realize how important haste is? Yesterday i was in a party where the rdm wouldn't haste me or anyone no matter what i said.. I was unfortunately stuck with slow for 40% of the entire night and watching the mob turn away from me for long periods of time because my flash would always be down -_-;;; there was 2 rng's in the pt too grrr..

well I don't think it's the easiest thing to keep the pt hasted (unless you're a smn) while in a whm's case you have to keep healing and make sure everyone is clear of negative status effects and in good health, and where rdm's are (sometimes) dishing out dispels, and I would hope basically always dealing out refresh, unless it's some sorta rng/nin rdm brd pt or whatever lol

It's not just you...

Edit: Smn haste is handy but it never seems to last long enough. I'd rather get fenrir acc up. But I do agree that it can be hard to fit haste into an already busy spell line up.

i understand that redmages do have a huge load on their hands.. but i've seen it been done by a small handful of rdm's. They somehow were able to keep up with refresh (for 4) and haste for 2 as well as debuffs..

i'm just peeved that they never bothered to listen when i was asking for one to cancel slow -_- .. one of the rng's died cuz i had nothing to pull with and my cure was going so painfully slow =_=

i think i need to invest in a mermaid ring too =_= never thought i'd have a use for it until now haha.

Haste does help quite a lot in making flash readily available, but you shouldn't be at the point where slow makes it impossible for you to keep hate. If it gets bad though, just make a macro to /tell the rdm to keep you hasted. After spamming it enough he'll probably haste you, unless he leaves the party.

(not sure if you can even macro tells D;/)

As long as you have a whm and rdm, they should be able to keep 3 melees hasted easily. I can usually do 2 without much trouble, but keeping 3 hasted is really stretching it for me usually unless I can convince the rdm to haste one.

If you've got more than two other melee members in your pt; I can certainly understand the WHM leaving you out of the Haste ritual. I think it really does help things out, especially if there's no Thief to SA/TA back onto you with a high-damage renkei.

Personally, I'm not going to whine at my WHM or RDM if they don't Haste me; but if they're not Haste'ing anyone then that's just slacking off :P

Funnily enough, you can. :p

Had to use tells for when I did Promyvion with my WAR/NIN, sent a tell in my macro to the other WAR/NIN to Provoke when I was casting Utsusemi.

In my LS, I haste the 2 dmg dealers (drk, sam) and my rdm hastes the pld. Its never a problem to keep haste on for us, so i would safely say if you have a whm + rdm you can have 3 melee's hasted no problem.

All good WHM or RDM keep the tank hasted 99% of the time, no matter if its PLD or NIN. NIN need it even more than us PLD.
Haste even helps against some slow status attacks. In Boyahda I always outright resisted Sticky Thread, that crawler slow thingie.

I had the scroll of haste ready at 39whm, and my comment was @40 Haste OK ^^

My general rule of hasting was tank gets first, SC person who gains TP slower is higher priority. I've had minimal people whine about that. NIN and PLD need to hit more often and do more stuff in less time for hate, so I think it's stupid not to haste tanks.

it's situations like this that makes me want to get off my lazy ass and get my static party going. haste is going to be one of those spells that i will abuse like a cheap whore on a saturday night. :)

75 mithra WHM here.

The original poster is right to complain, it's very important to keep all melees hasted during exp parties. However sometimes there are reasons that makes the party inefficient, and whm needs to do lots of curing. Haste is 40mp each cast and putting it on 3 people is sometimes difficult when those same 3 people have yellow HP.

When I start out on the first chain of any party, I'd usually Haste all 3 melees, and if I found it was draining my MP too quickly, I'd cut out the PLD from hastage to keep that mp. As time goes on the party may begin to work better together and I can haste pld again.

If I were you, I wouldn't demand Haste so harshly, but asking nicely isn't a problem. Definitely don't macro /tell anyone, that's a great way to develop a bad reputation, which you probably don't want. Endgame is rough if people think you're an ass.

Anyways, don't see anything wrong with /telling whm or rdm once or twice "Hey, can you fit me into your Haste cycle if you have the MP? It really helps me a lot." Something like that will likely get you a better reaction.

Good luck getting Hasted :)

One thing to consider about giving the pld haste. If he can flash the enemy more often chances are he'll take less damage (due to one or two attacks being missed). This in turn costs the whm less mp to heal the pld. At least that's what I say to any rdm or whm who bitches about giving me haste :p

If anything, tanks should never be left out of the haste cycle, period. Haste does not help getting tp that much comparing to the timers where the tanks need them really bad to become efficient. For example, flash will cause the mob to miss at least 2-3 hits on average that's like 200 dmg taken by a pld, which saves a cure3. Just my 2 cents :)

Rdm should be casting haste on 1 melee every battle, whoever that may be. With two hastes however, I find it messes up the amount of mp I have, and need to convert earily then is optimal. That might change later on as I level, but that's how I see it now.

I was partying in Boyahda Tree today and was Slowed all the time, it is really unbearable. -_-
