Finally got around to fighting Maat.

Tonight, I finally managed to fight Maat *cough*sober*cough*. Having made the mistake previously, I went into this fight concentrated, with some of my favorite music playing in the back ground to calm my nerves, and to be honest, I owned him. There's a very simple formula to follow, and I got *very* close to dying simply due to shit spells that Maat cast, but I pulled through. Here's the formula:
All spells should be cast one after another, no pause.
Approach Maat, at Maximum Range:
1. Burst - max +elemental magic skill and +int, thunder staff
2. Elemental Seal
3. Sleep II (at lv66 with ~200 enfeebling magic, he did not resist the elemental seal'd sleep)
4. Freeze - same as burst, switch to ice staff
5. Immediately Stun
6. Manafont
7. Firaga III - switch to Fire staff
8. Win

The only gear I switched were my staves, and between Demon Cloak and BLM AF body.

No food was used, no medicine. Very simple. Just do exactly above and he goes down like a lump.

Edit: Forgot to mention where I got close to dying. The *one* thing that Maat can do that can really screw you up is what he almost pulled on me. Literally as I was stunning him, I got stunned myself, and he immediately began casting Sleep. I just barely got my stun in before he slept me, and my stun lasted about 30% into my casting of Firaga III, so that basically gave me the win. The only tricky part lies between getting the 2nd spell off, and getting the 3rd spell off. That, and making sure you have the right gear to ensure no major resists...which isn't that hard.

Damage:
Burst: 661
Freeze: 573
Firaga III: 323

congrats! i was expecting a somewhat decent challenge when i took him on, judging from what i read on these boards...turns out, he's pretty easy to take down at 66 too :biggrin: .

Hehe I beat that wrinkled bastard in 2 hits at lv 75 for fun. No food or anything.

1) Flare -- 700-something damage
2) Maat started to run at me, I cast Stun
3) Sleep II
4) Flood -- 700-something damage
5) /laugh

Almost set the record time for that battle but I wasted a good 30 seconds looking for my ancient magic macros when afterward I remembered that I had deleted them... heh

I'm going to do it a little diferent for maximum damage, and minimum fuss ^^;

Done on Iceday (with Shiva's Ring):
1. Freeze + Ice staff (Aqulio's if i can borrow it)
2.ES + Sleep 2 (with macro to switch in wizard's coat + Efeeble Torque + Dark staff)
3. Manafont
4. Flare + Fire staff (same as 1.)
5. Stun
6. Waterga III + Water Staff (1!)
7. /laugh @ Maat

The idea here is the same as a Ancient Magic SC used in Blm pt's, Ice day help Freeze resist along with +25 elemental skill from staff + ring. Freeze lowers resist to Flare, Flare lowers resist to Waterga III ^^.

Congrats on beating Maat, i'm doing mine this week too so i'll post how it turns out :spin:

I did...

Freeze > Ele Seal Sleep2 > Aspir > Freeze when timer was up again > Sleep2 (resisted) > Sleep (resisted) > Stun > Manafont > Sleepga2 (landed) > Freeze.

Maat landed 2 punches + Thundaga 2 on me, but I survived barely :P I had max enfeebling @ 69 when I did this but I think I forgot to switch to BLM AF coat; resists suck.

I didn't mean just do that, I meant those are the damage dealing spells you should use and that's the order you should use them :p

I wouldn't waste time with the Aspir...but if you can't cast the two AM's in a row...use it. If you stun before manafont, and quickly get into Firaga III, there is nothing that Maat can do to kill you (unless he somehow landed a spell before that lowered you from max HP).

Manafont means casting won't get interrupted, even if he hits you / casts spells at you. So just launch into Firaga III, and laugh, as there's no spell he can cast faster than Firaga III that'll do enough damage to kill you (I'm a taru with 723 hp, and I lived through that phase even though he did nothing but punch me. He only got 2 punches off before Firaga III landed, did ~400 damage). I wouldn't waste money on a Stoneskin Torque - it'll only absorb one hit, and not much damage off a spell.

I was really sloppy... my Manafont macro was made at the last minute and ended up being '/p "Manafont" <me>', then I was a little slow to cast the first Sleep 2 and got nuked pretty bad. You can see how frantic that Thundaga 2 made me, casting Sleep 2 when Sleep 1 was already in place. ._.

He won't cast Silence, and when you manafont, usually Maat starts trying to cast something.

Errant Gear (keep in mind, I'm on midgardsormr): Total: 300kish
Igquirra Weskit: 600k
Water IV: 300k ish
Aero IV: 50-60k ish
Any Zenith Gear: multiple 100k's for the cursed gear, and usually a decent chunk of change for the crafting fee.
Diamond Rings: 400k
Snow Rings: 2.2 million (1.8 million if you sell back your diamond rings)

I think the real challenge in this game isn't the battles with monsters, but the battle with other players for Gil.

Capitalism sim just isn't my genre, ya follow?

I think I'd rather quit than farm that... or at least run off to WoW for 3 months or as long as I can suspend my FFXI account without Misti being deleted.

The sad thing is that he beats me all the time with a Thundaga2 before my Firaga3 hits. So the beast deal is to Stun him after the second AM?

Here's what usually happens:

1. Burst
2. Maat will start casting something
3. a.If it is something bad: Stun > Elemental Seal > Sleep2
b. If it's not: Elemental Seal > Sleep2
4. Freeze
5. Firaga3

I have trouble usually after Freeze hits. So I think I will save my Stun for this but then again, i might get the same result as my first fight. Which was Waterga3 from Maat right after Burst lands.

Oh well i hope I get to beat him soon and thanks for all the info you guys posted.:)

Elemental Seal + Sleep 2 should be 90 seconds, so it's perfectly safe to wait for your Stun recast and still complete the next Ancient magic.

2. Elemental Seal > Sleep2
3. Manafont > Freeze
Maat starts casting Burn :sweat:
4. Stun
5. Firaga3
Maat starts casting Poisonga2 :sweat:
6. /em cries tears of joy

I did it the exact same way as Atrapos and I was a bit lucky that he casted silly things. Thanks to this thread again!:)

Well, figured I'd post here and let you know how my 2nd maat fight went. I had already beaten it on my account as a warrior, and my good friend had lost a few times already and was getting depressed about this fight, so I decided to take the challenge and beat it for him. I thought warrior was easy, this fight was cake. I have no experience whatsoever with blm, my blm is only lvl 21 on my character and i'm elvaan, so its not going much higher.

I spent about 10 minutes in battalia downs getting used to spell casting time, went through my macro's which took about 10 min to make, then went into the fight.

Only had ice staff and dark staff, I think he sold all the others, so I made due with both of those.

Burst >> ES sleep II (he hit me once while I was casting this, but the spell went off). Ran away from him to other side of arena and then cast Freeze >> bind >> (saw I was at like 120mp left, forgot to use manafont, so used it here) stunned his burst >> sleepga II had him sleeping like a baby again, then finished him off with firaga III.

Used dark staff for sleep spells, ice staff for all others, and he didn't resist anything, i slept and bound him no problem. No blink band or stoneskin torque used, only an apple pie for food. He tried casting one spell the whole fight, that burst that I stunned, other than that, he spent most the fight sleeping. No elemental torque, the gear was black cloak, +3int rings, the obi that gives like +3or4 int, black silk neckerchief (+1int) morion tathlum, and a couple cool earrings (int and the Rare/ex one from the goblin).

I went in after getting 68 and equipping the ownage that was Black Cloak.

Maat runs up and MELEES me interrupting my spell, then begins to cast Burst
I manage to cast Sleep 2
Run away and cast Freeze

Maat casts Blaze spikes
Blizzard III for the win


I've never heard of BLMs Maat running up and meleeing besides on me, I was surprised as hell but managed to go 1 for 1 on him. ^^b

...run out of range of the spells that it takes longer to cast. Maat starts casting Flood >>> Rakhir runs out of range of spell. Rakhir steps just in range of Maat. Rakhir casts Firaga III. Teh win. Its not like he chases after you or anything.

Watched my 66 blm buddy try it for kicks last night. We didn't think about macroing stun....

So he starts off with flare, that pisses him off.
Maat starts casting stonega3, muadib starts casting ES+Sleep2.
Maat's faster, 1-shots the taru for 600 damage.
