I just installed the game on a laptop today, and downloaded all of the patches. However, at the point where the opening movie should start, an error occurs. I don't have a screengrabber on this computer, and maybe I should get one. But anyway, the message is all in Japanese, except for HardwareTnL. After that error, you click OK, and it goes back to POL.

I thought maybe if I disabled the opening movie, it would fix the problem, but when I try to launch FFXIConfig, the app crashes.

Any ideas?

Sounds like your video card isn't capable of Hardware Transform and Lighting. What kind of card do you have?

On this computer, there is an S3 ProSavage DDR card... 32 megs.

I updated the drivers (to the best of my knowledge) and still have no luck. The graphics card is intigrated... so I guess I don't have any hope at all playing it on this computer?

Let me guess. Is this laptop of yours is a HP Pavilion? I have the same video card in my HP laptop and I believe that it won't run FFXI on it. Sorry.

To Sagitta: Yes! Correct... HP. Too bad it won't work... guess it's back to the ol' desktop. :)

Rylios: For future reference, I have a 32 MB ATI card on my desktop computer and it runs the game. It's not all that smooth some times, but it runs it. The minimum requirements are a little off, I guess.
