View Full Version : Is SquareEnix trying to encourage Thf/Rng's

This question has sorta been in the back of my mind since I've read the list of new CoP gear. Is it just me or are they trying to increase the number of Thf/rngs by introducing Rng/Thf Noct gear and the thf only Bravo Gear which increases range accuracy. Also thfs got the ability to use crossbows with a limited selection of bolts a few updates back.

hmm maybe, but i can tell you a few things. It would definately work a lot better in earlier levels when your skill cap isnt huge compared to the difficulty of the monster. I think it would be like trying to watch a RDM melee an exp monster in higher levels.. it just doesnt work to hot.
As for thf/rng gear, there was some before CoP, like lv 70 War set for rng and thf. Kinda has mixed bonuses for both jobs, where only a piece or two is really beneficial for either job. I want Thf only JSE >.< i thought the new BRD JSE was going to be for thieves when i saw the pics ; ;

given the fact that most rngs ran around in ugly tunics, an most thfs ran around in that god awful doublets. im very happy they got new gear. the old gear was hurting my eyes. glad s.e is styling them up a bit :thumbsup:

Noct gear so so much prettier. It's worth the stat loss.
Crossbows are generally used only for solo use from any class other then RNG.
Blind Bolts + Acid Bolts + Bloody Bolts = Win (Though Acid/Blind are near impossible to land on NMs :mad: )
I see it as giving THF an even greater ability to solo then they have before, then trying to push foward THF/RNG.

Id have to lean towards Nny's idea... it seems liek the are trying to enhance some abilites more than send people in a certain direction with job choices. And its not like this is the only armor series that is THF/RNG, which was also stated...

I just bought myself the Noct Brais, Leggings, and Cap, all HQ, and I love how it looks, but I can't justify getting even NQ body or hands for town-gear... Because I'm bloody broke (Thief is my highest classs, so... yeah...).
If you consider that going /Rng might give me a reason to wear the body, well, then maybe, but I still vote for "Probably not" -_-
I can't afford to buy Bolts right now anyway. Agi+2 boomerang, here I come x_x
Maybe if Windurstians on Gilgamesh cared more about conquest, and I wouldn't have to pay 25k for a Merc. Captains Belt, I could get the Noct for looks ¬_¬

yeah, the thing that gets me is that thieves can use all the "enhanced" xbow bolts, but god forbid I just want some cheap level 1 bolts for skillups: "Oh, I'm sorry. that's war/rng/drk(?) exclusive."
so I'll level it up as far as I can with my level 37 warrior, but then I've got to buy venom bolts (seems to be the cheapest) for 100+ skill? weak.
big difference between 600 gil/dz iron bolts and 3000 gil/dz poison bolts.

yeah i always wondered what they hell was up with all the rng's in tunics, i mean seriously there are better choices for rng then tunics, i wore iron scale mail untill nocts came out, and had planned to wear brig+1 but nocts+1 is better.
i do think they are trying to push for thf/rng, i remember when thf's got the use of the xbow, and its what made me get my thf from levels 12-15..lol oh and i had to cap marks for my rng

yea nny is pretty much right, bolts are mainly for thf solo nm/hnm/vt/it monsters only. the fact that this does make thief a better solo'ing job doesnt mean to sub rng just so you can better hit your target... since as solo you will be using nin sub anyways. i think SE finally got the hint that thief was gimped out of a lot of gear (/cough osode :P).

nah thf/rng can be pretty damaging in exp PTs early on. Your daggers/swords won't cut the damage you could dish out from a bow or gun. it's feasible either way.

I have Noct+2 boots and brais, but I use the Emp's Hairpin on my head. The body piece and gloves aren't worth anything since I'm a thief, so I stuck the RSE body piece in there because it matched the Kingdom Signet Staff so well.
I like a mix of stats and looks, so I probably wouldn't make a good ranger since have the most +Agi as possible at all times means having the most mixed and matched armor on earth.
I don't see how Noct gear is supposed to create more Thf/Rng. A lot of thieves pull with crossbows or bows, and they could use the extra ranged accuracy for the pulls. I'd say it's geared towards thieves the most because of the +Dex the brais and boots for Sneak Attack. The +Agi on the hat is a nice bonus for Trick Attack.

I was leveling my SAM out of pure bored about a week ago, and the THF/NIN was using a mix of Guns and Crossbows while leveling in Garliage. 100+ damage per shot, meanwhile only doing ~10 damage with daggers. :eek: (though it's flying creature, so that's making it even stronger)
ACC wasn't all that good, but a THF/RNG could probably hit pretty consitantly.

He probably means +1, since the Noct +1 gives Dex/Agi +2

I wish :D
It'd probably be in the hundred thousands though ;_;
well a thfs job is too really transfer hate not as much to do damage. so if you arnt using ur tp for sa+ta your not as good imo. but i guess you can get tp fast with archery.

Reading through this thread a bit i was kinda curious about the gun as a thf. Is it feasible to use as a thf? Or just another status symbol saying "Look at me i am rich". But if it actually does decent dmg with capped marksmanship i will probally use one.

I have a noct brais +1 now, but I was wondering whats better for higher levels, that or the AF pants? I'm going to guess AF.

Yukimura it's more of just a status thing, for coolness. Thief doesn't get access to many guns but it's cool still. Crossbow is our best bet to helping the party if you truely have your heart set on a few ranged attacks, acid bolts. And this takes alot of rng acc, the latest +1 rng acc rings on an equipment macro and something to switch back to dex rings for SATA and if you have them snipers for tp gain with daggers. +1 noct gear definitely, although if you have better dex/agi equips(LL,hairpin) you'll need more equipment macros which really isn't a big problem. And of course rng sub...But maybe thf/nin using a *insert damaging SATA dagger* + a archer/hawker knife would be equally fine.
Even with all this you'd probably still miss quite a bit, but it should help land that one needed acid bolt shot eventually.

711 it depends what you're doing. solo defiitely AF pants with its +4 agi. For party this depends and I plan to keep both. I just obtained my AF pants last night from the castle.
Althought the difference would be small, it's definitely even if slightly going to help your tp gain. If you're fighting inc-tough++ mobs and you're just that very border between hitting decent-hitting alot, those little differences carry you over the top. But for SATA, for very obvious reasons 4agi > 2 dex I'd imagne and this is what I plan to do.
So remember, if you're only having 60-75% hit rate, a few extra dex can make the difference up considerablely because you were on that very verge of being 80%+ acc. Or insert whatever acc% you want for a certain mob, that was just an example.
