View Full Version : Wyvern and TH ?

Ok I know this could be 100% coincidence. Also a week or so of farming for sniper's rings can also temporarily drive a man insane.
Has anyone noticed their farming drop rate increase when their Wyvern is out?
There has been several instances where I was farming the same zone as my LS-mates... I always seem to get ~25% more drops than other ppl subbing TH I (I know I may kill fast... but I'm basing this on a /kill basis). Some even joke that my TH I works better than theirs. Until now, I had dismissed this as my good luck.
So here is what sparked my curiosity...
I have been doing almost nothing but farming for the past few days. On the mobs I have been killing, I get at least 1 drop/3 kills (normally). Anyway... I got accepted to an XP PT and ended up dying (therefore losing my Wyvern). We disbanded after that and I went back to farming.
I had 35min until my wyvern was ready (the time was Windsday 2:00 38% moon). I started killing ... After a few kills, I still hadn't gotten any drops. I checked to make sure I had switched to Thf sub. Then checked to see the day and moon phase.
I figured it was all just in my head, so I continued to kill. Six kills later, I still had no drops...so I began to wonder..."what if my Wyvern gets some sort of residual TH, from my sub?".
I had 15 min till my wyvern. Curious to see if I was crazy or not, I killed until "Max" was ready. the whole time I was out there with no wyvern out, I had received two drops out of fourteen kills.
on the same day...same moon phase, I called Max out. First kill [drop]. "Ok, must be coincidence". Second kill [drop], third [drop, drop]... by the end of windsday I had killed maybe 20 of the same exact mob as before and ended up with 18 drops!!!
... so am I crazy? is it possible that my Wyvern has some residual TH I or maybe affects my drop-rate?
has anyone else experienced this?

Actually it's said that the wyvern decreases drop rate, and I have yet to have this great luck with my wyvern so..

From the understanding I of the Wyvern's changes from the past few updates and how the drop rates work. You can improve your drop rate doing various things. Have TH with THF or /THF, have the correct items with hidden effects of increasing drop rates, and party with people (The greater the number of players the higher the drop rate).
Now from the past few updates involving wyverns one states that wyverns abilities can change with the job you have subbed (This is evident in the breath attacks they do). So I would go to guess that the wyvern may actually get the effects of TH if you are going around as /THF.
If that is true then you tripled your drop rate. Because you got wyvern out (Two or more "party"), you have TH, and wyvern possibly has TH as well (TH stacks, so each member with it creates larger drop rates). Then if you have any known items that also improve your drop rates you will get items a lot more then other people normally will.
EDIT:
The theory of the wyvern is based solely on what I've read in the updates, I haven't done any testing to it so I can't be sure. The ways of improving drop rates however I know work, I even convinced some friends to make a "static" farming party all of with /THF. With 4 member all with TH the drop rate of items we get is just sickening we almost benefit more farming in that method then going for BCNMs.

I don't know if this is useful, but according to what everyone believes about the GM call regarding TH drops a while back, it was stated that each person helps the drops rate-or something to that effect. Is it possible that wyverns are counted as "members" for increasing drops?
Dunno, just a thought.

That's exactly what I was implying when I stated that Yokai was getting something of a triple bonus having his wyvern out. Probably be a little bit more accurate if I said double to triple bonus (I've heard TH counts as a second role for a drop, and I've heard its is some freakish half count for a drop).
Basically was considering Normal + His TH + Wyvern + Wyvern TH (if it does get that effect).

On a related note, although the description is incredibly exciting and very misleading, this would lead me to believe that your Wyvern could get Treasure Hunter as well. I don't even know if it would do anything, but whatever. I think they said it was a random passive support job trait that the Wyvern got. Double attack anyone? Lol store TP

It's all luck IMO. The wyvern helps you kill faster when farming, thus increasing your drops overall.

Could just be me but I always feel that when wyvern does last kill I never get drop.

I don't know but i face the same problem with Darkani.. whenever my wyvern gets the last hit, nothing drops.. /em shrugs. i'll be glad to know if that is true.

If anything the wyvern getting the last hit on the mob kills drop rate.. At least from what I've noticed.
There is a SS of a GM confirming that having a THF or whatever get the last hit doesn't matter. so having the wyvern get the last hit probably doesn't matter.

Thanks for taking interest and providing feedback in my TH Theory, post ^^.
I think this is going to be nearly impossible to prove. Maybe I can wait till i get my Relic Body (Adds support job abilities to wyvern,) and see if there is a noticible spike in drops. If there is, then it might mean that my Wvern never had the passive abilities to begin with.
We'll see ^^
On a related note, as a bst, I've often had the impression that my pet getting the last hit in has resulted in a bad average of drops. It almost seemed like I had to at least participate (or get the last hit myself, I don't know) in order to get better drops. This is as bst/thf with TH1. :)
Just some food for thought.

yeah, for a while, It seemed that I wasn't getting drops off of anything my Wyvern got the killing blow on.
I ended up letting my Wyvern solo several of my semi-rare drop, farmed, mobs, to find out. out of about 10 Wyvern kills, I had 5 drops (which isn't any less than I would have received had I issued the killing blow for every fight.)

A while ago I used to camp Stroper Chymes.. :(, and out of 100+ kills, the only time a ring droped is when my wvyern killing blow. And, yes, I do notice more drops with my wyvern out. I don't sub THF for farming, though.

What kinda proof? It's kinda simple to figure out that wyvern makes you kill faster, it hits nearly as hard and much faster than you do. If you mean luck, it's always been luck, drops are all about randomness.
