Treasure Chest Mimics in Pso'Xja

Good News: In the new dungeon called Pso'Xja there are TONS of treasure chests.

Bad News...9/10 of them are mimic-type mobs in disguise! You don't even have to pick the chest to make it a mimic, it just aggros you (by sound) and suddenly you've got a treasure chest gnawing on your leg. At 62, they were EP-EM, thief, pal, blm managed to kill the ep and dc's easily enough. The Even match chest handed us our asses. we escaped out with each of us between 40-75 hitpoints (it still had about 65% hp's). The chests are very physical resistant, they are very, very weak vs fire, but then of course it just pulls in the blackmage, which is not good.

The treasure chest mobs do all the favorite mimic abilities, including box trap (evil aoe poison/stun) and Pull In (so no fleeing!).

Anyhow, a 75 redmage near our scouting party was soloing them, told us they drop chest keys. We killed 3-4 and got no drops. (12 xp apiece, woot!)

So after that I dove straight at the next chest we came across and picked it. got the map of the zone (I love my job =D). I *think* that it was just a legitimate treasure chest as opposed to a mob, but there is the possibility that you just have 2-3 seconds before the treasure chest just mutates into a treasure chest mob. More testing will be required.

You target them they are NPC green too?
What about Widescan, any mention of the fake ones there?
Widescan picks up the burried Antlions that you can't target in Attowah (I was having great fun exploring that zone with some lv40~50 friends... Widescan a burried one, and run them over it ^^, seriously. try it, you'll laugh your ass off everytime they get bashed by it... Don't let them die, but don't tell them you're doing it on purpose :P)

Dunno about widescan, I wasn't a ranger. But yes, they target green and look just like any other benign treasure chest. It was a lot of fun scouting that place out with a buddy or two. I'd reccomend grabbing a couple friends and heading to one of the new zones you haven't been to yet.

- Also, you can't /check them until they've transformed.

ahh, me and 75 brd friend came across one, it was VT and raped us because there was a VT dark elemental in the same room, so no casting -.- Later came back with a PT and killed a couple, but meh... where did you find EP-EV for 63 o.O i was lv 75 >.< did you go into the entrance near F-7 beaucidine?

Damn Kastel do you have a job or anything you do besides Play FFX1? You have a good amount of jobs in the 60+ range

I went in the tower closest to the ranguemont pass zoneline. let me find a map and I'll get you a coordinate....

Where did you go in? By the tower where Nue spawns maybe? Yeesh, VT elementals to a level 75 doesn't sound fun.

P.S. as the servers are currently swamped, I keep getting "server is busy" messages when I try to post this. I forsee a double, triple or quadruple post of this reply. I'll delete when the server calms down a bit.

dont mistake the coffers as chests :biggrin:
theres coffers that are pretty tough in the tower near xarcabard zoneline. the chests are all in the tower at G-9, west of the outpost and range from too weak-easy prey for a 74.
good tip: the real chests seem to have all (or mostly) different pop spots than the fake chests, when i explored the area with 2 buddies we found one behind the teleport platform all the way down where the elevator brings you to and the next was in the room left of the green keystone room

lol too many mithra thieves around here complaining about strong chests :P just bring pots with you and you can solo them easily.

kastel do you wear full af2 btw? makes me curious... because thf af2 sucks hardcore when soloing especially for mithra (no offense)

optical hat
scorpion harness
amemit+1 or torama cape
survival belt
master caster mitts or war gloves
evasion torque
rogue's earring, fenrir earring, bat earrings
thunder rings, or mermans
dusk trousers
strider boots or dance shoes
bloody bolts.


change to tons of STR and DEX gear for WS

(and no you cant solo those VT chests... they are evil)

hahaha, yeah same here. there really isnt much that I havent tried to tank or solo or duo (all things in reason) so i thought the chest would be easy. It probably would have been if we knew that they didnt aggro and i could have at least SA for initial aggro and hate control... also the stupid elemental that spawned meant no poisonas x.x

Recently the most fun thing i have tanked was Tavnazian Rams and Lord of Onzozo x.x LOO was fun because it was just me and a whm
