My mom said she pays SE $5 a month to track my activity so she'll know when and for how long I'm playing...is this even possible? oO

NO, your mom can't pay $5/month to track what you're doing. Though, she could figure out how much time you've played. In the FFXI menu in-game, there's a menu choice to see the current play time. So you can check how many days, hours, minuites, and even seconds you've spent playing FFXI since you started playing that character. It does this for each character you have.

uh oh... csBahamut, I think you've just made a lot of ffxi moms very unhappy. :spin:

kick...ass. Since I'm only home half of my weekends, I don't want to pay $13 a month for 4 days a month. >_> I'm going to ask a tech support/ account support just to be sure because if she were to find out somehow, she'd cancel my account (That I f'ing paid for! ) away as soon as she got the chance. She doesn't even know how to get to the internet, let along navigate POL to get to FFXI and then type in /playtime. ;) I believe, since she said the credit card company called, that she had paid for billing tracking. And it's not like SE bills her every time I log on. Also, I bet it would have to be stated in the EULA that you can do that. It states that the information isn't guaranteed to be accurate or readily available, but nothing about it being used upon request. Also, she wouldn't be able to do that without some sort of account verification. I'm the only one who knows my POL ID and it's going to stay that way. :D Well, I'm off to be defiant and wondering why I've been on hold for 15 minutes on the tech support line. x_x Thanks so much. :D

There's no way you're going to get away with using her credit card unless she's a complete idiot. Her credit card bill will tell her what she's paid for, and if she didn't pay for something, the credit card company will explain to her what the charge is for. And from there she will link it to you.

Of course, if it's your own credit card, you should already be 18, and legally an adult where she can't force you not to play, only kick you out of the house.

Noo, she knows about the card. I'm just not supposed to be playing during the week. I'm sure her credit card bill won't show her that information. >_>

OK. It won't show here that kind of info.

don't say things like this. most likely he lives under his parents' house and therefore he lives under their rules.

while i'm not sure what she meant by the whole "monitoring your account" thing, she's just looking out for your best interest. its very easy for kids to get lost in this game and become obsessed with it to the point of being a detriment to their lives.

while it is somewhat strict, her enforcing rules and limitations are a good thing. don't be too angry with your mom about the rules, she's looking out for you.

Agree so VERY much with bonovoxpsu.

I went totally out of control with FFXI, playing for 10-17hrs a day, making excuses, not doing any homework. 'tis not good for your life. -o-;
Making limitations for yourself and following them isn't easy, and be glad your mother cares for you enough so you won't be addicted with a game and play it massively.

I see where you AND my mom are coming from, but since I'm putting up the money, limits are fine, but weekends is too much. I played from the NA release to March and I was playing 57 hours a week. At my old school, I couldn't get anywhere like that. XD But, (And she certainly knows this) at my new school I have like...30 minutes of homework a night and not enough material to study for more than 40 minutes collectively. She doesn't understand the absurd amount of free time I have. I've decided, due to my merciless concience to abide by her rules and brown-nose my way into her actually being ok with me playing during the week. (Doesn't mean I wont log on for a few minutes to check out my spankin new log parser, though. ) *goes to clean his mom's room* Also, I agree with Kailea...she's being a bit excessive about this. ¬¬ It's dumb that she'll let me play...Star Wars Battlefront, for example ALL NIGHT if I wanted too but FFXI is like..."OMGWTF ARE YOU DOING?! *slap*" (no, my mom isn't violent. XD)

The fact that it's an MMORPG and you're actually talking to other 'live' people online may have her on her guard, which when you look at it from her point of view, is very understandable. Considering some of the things that highlight the news about online abductions and whatnot, she's concerned about you which is actually quite nice to know.

I remember seeing a couple threads before about how "I hate my mom cuz of this, or that." Sometimes they don't realize they were kids too and have a great deal more experience in matters than their children do. I'd rather have a parent concerned over me than one who didn't care.

Did I mention I play SWBF online and I played EQOA for almost 20 hrs a day for a week straight and she was fine with it. :P She has some sort of a grudge with the game, but oh well. ¬¬ She's just weird. XD Also, I don't hate my mom because of this. Not at all. I just think she needs to stop overreacting. : /

Very Intresting, your mom picks this one game out of all the others to restrict you on? Now that is wierd. Did she ever see that disclaimer on it about warning that the game is addictive and what other crap?

If she did I bet she's over-reacting to that. I know my mother when she was Comp. Illiterate whenever she saw the screen flash with a message stating "Illegal Operation" she took it in litteral context and thought we were doing something that was breaking the Law.

Boy that one was fun to explain to her and when she started using Computers and got the "Blue Screen of Death" I shouldn't of called the screen by that name, she thought the computer was permanently broken when I said that. Got probably a good hour lecture on how she can't be wasting money on stuff that doesn't last long and what other crap.

When she finished her lecture I restarted the system showed her what she did to cause that and so far I haven't had a single word come out of her about the technology being a waste of money. In fact I think she's spent more on that computer then I have >.>

i doubt you're able to track playtime through SE
but you can track online time through your ISP if you ask them, can get last sign on / off time from them, and duration of session

XD That's classic. Yeah, she's being really weird. Speaking of paying for stuff, it pisses me off now because I worked this summer to build this computer and now she wants to be like this.
