Hey I was curious if the wind staff effected my sleep spells, I have all the elemental staves and when i was going through my spells I noticed that sleep was wind, would wind staff have an effect on sleep resists or length or is it only for nukes?

The Staff will help increase the chance of putting the mob to sleep which is why RDM have one when going to fight Maat.

According to Allakhazam, and my personal memory, Sleep has the Darkness Attribute not Wind.

Where did you hear Wind Staff affected sleep?

Most RDM's use Wind staff to increase the damage that their strongest spell, Aero III, does, in addition to cutting down the resists that they have to deal with at the same time. From what I can tell, Dark staff effects the resist rate of sleep, not wind staff.

Well strongest spell for Maat fight, not strongest spell. Strongest is Thunder III.

Strongest is thundaga3.

Sleep is dark based.

And reason why RDM have wind staffs are because Gravity and Silence are wind based.

That would be the implied meaning in what I said. I guess I forgot to mention that I was specifically responding to the circumstance of the RDM Maat fight.

How come it's green by the sleep spells instead of black if it's based off dark?

I don't know what's wrong with your system, but for everyone else, the icon beside the sleep spells is black, and nowhere near green....

I dunno what you're looking at but I'm looking at my spell list right now and the icon is black. >_> Sleep has always been dark based and brd's lullaby has always been light based. This is how it's always been for everyone and it's never been different. Either you're getting confused with the lists or something is corrupt in your system.

Nana is correct, which is why you have BRDs sleep things that are drk-resistant under all circumstances where it is possible.

...this topic is two years old. For the love of little puppies, please stop necroposting..

I'm sure by now most people understand that black dots next to spells mean it's Dark magic and is therefore affected by Dark Staff/Pluto Staff, not Wind Staff.

It does say, right at the top of every post ...

So long as we're studying archaeology, I'm surprised nobody corrected this:Strongest is thundaga3.Did rdms actually get thundaga 3 at some point back in the day?

Which is why I always check... The post above mine. As long as that one's new, I'm not REALLY necro'ing a post, since technically, it's already been necro'd by another person.

Some people here are a little obsessed with the "necropost" idea anyway. It's one thing to say you shouldn't resurrect a flamewar from the depths of history, but a simple request for information? How is "necroposting" it any worse than starting a brand new thread to ask exactly the same question again?

They probably found it using the search function, so if you criticize them for that, you're discouraging them from searching for existing threads rather than starting new ones, too. Not a good outcome. (If you really want to cut down on necroposting, put an age limit on the search function. Then nobody would ever find the old threads, which means that instead of being necroposted, they can be continuously reincarnated instead! Yay?)

Also: asking a question indicates a willingness to learn the answer and improve your knowledge. This is a GOOD thing. Slamming the asker because they didn't know the answer already is useless and counterproductive. Nobody is born knowing what the colors of the icons in the spell list mean, or how the hidden effects of element staves work. Some people might figure it out for themselves, but the point of communication and teaching is so that everyone won't have to reinvent the wheel.

I was a little put off by someone running in and crying "Oh noez! Necro post" myself. As much as I respect Icemage, it was an annoying and silly thing to say imo. The guy had a question and I don't think it would've really mattered if he had started a new thread or picked a thread already on the topic, even if the topic was old. Actually I figure he was probably trying to do the right thing by not cluttering up the forum with duplicate topics. Don't a lot of you complain about that a lot anyway?

So... there.

Its not unusual to happen, most folks still dont know/use the new posts link, thus end up reviving old threads that the authors probably forgot about, in this case i guess its all good, but you have to admit sometimes its annoying

It's mostly annoying when someone posts just to interject an lol or something, or looks like they're specifically trying to carrying on a discussion with someone who hasn't posted here for years.

If you have a related question or something, yeah yeah, go for it; point of the search function.

NQ wind = 10% dmg, increase effect on wind spells
HQ = 15% dmg, increase effect on wind spells

Sleep = Enfeebling Magic, Effected by Dark Staff

Wind staff = Gravity, Aero(series), Choke, etc
