Woodworking, a 0-60 Guide to Leveling
Guide by Evanesce of Phoenix and Allakhazam

~~~~~
Well, it seems that we don’t have a Woodworking guide up to 60, and I’m somewhat bored, so... okay! This guide will go from 0-60 Woodworking, there is a straight walkthrough section and then a section divided into 6 subsections of 10 levels each that will show various options you have for leveling through those levels. Now, without further ado, let us begin!
~~~~~

-1.0) Table of Contents

0.0) Terms and Notes

“Guild Shop? refers to the Woodworking Guild Shop, I’ll specify what Guild Shop if I’m talking about one other than the Woodworking one.

~~~
If trying to get a stack of Arrowwood Lumber from the shop, you will have to be very quick about scrolling down, selecting, and buying, as there is ample competition for those 2 elusive stacks of Arrowwood Lumber that come in stock every Vana ‘Diel day.
~~~

To turn stacks of certain types of Arrows into Quivers, you will need to go to a Mithra NPC that’s part of the Valeriano Troupe, which travels to the city that is 1st in Conquest ranking. She is off to the side, away from the main troupe. Trade her a Carnation for each stack of arrows you want in a Quiver. Iron Arrows, Silver Arrows, Beetle Arrows, Horn Arrows, Darksteel Bolts, and Mythril Bolts may be Quivered.

~~~
You will not gain skillups on failures until you are 5 or less away from the cap, then you may gain skillups from failures.
~~~

Here are the items needed for the Guild Tests in Woodworking up to 60:

Level Item

08-10 Workbench
18-20 Maple Table
28-30 Harp
38-40 Traversiere
48-50 Rose Wand
58-60 Kaman

~~~
All listed prices are based on my experiences on the Phoenix Server.
~~~~~

2.0) The Loose Walkthrough

This section is just as important or more important than the above Walkthrough, while this will require you to do a lot of your own research, chances are somewhere along the line you’ll save yourself money checking costs and picking a different route than the one listed above, because of the differences between server prices.

This section will just give a list of recipes that work decently for leveling within these levels, although the best path (in my opinion and experience, of course) was listed in the Walkthrough above, you may find different recipes more favorable in certain parts, so here’s a loose walkthrough of what you may want to use. No multiskill items will be listed. The item and their cap will be listed like this:

Arrowwood Lumber, 2

Item, then cap, simple enough, right?

Another alternative for 59-60, which I think might be cheaper overall...

Chest (cap: 61)
Earth crystal
Rattan Lumber X3
Lauan Lumber X2

Since cap is at 61 for chest, just use regular support.
Hope this helps^^

Just to let ppl know, crafting Shihei's before lvl 26 WW is a bad idea, I just did that today and lost a lot of money from failures lol.

Aside from that i did get to lvl 28 from 22 and am now a Novice ^^ and the Guide is awesome! i didnt know what to do after the Shihei

Thanks again

thanks for the guide n_n! it's really helpful..
the only thing is that ever sincei started crafting, i went from 4000 gil to 100-200..(i'm poor, i know =_=) and i've only gotten 1200-1300 gil D: so i lost a lot~
is that normal, or am i just confused about something i didn't know o_o?

does anyone know a alternative from lvl 15 woodworking up?
i keep burning Lightning Crystals like its eum free to get lol
anyway desynthing can be fun and all but that craft fails a LOT even with the advance synthesis support +1 (the one who asks for gil to make your synth go better)

Do yew lumber. Wind crystal plus yew log. It caps at 22, whereas maple sugar caps at 21.

I'm lvl 68 and about done lvling off of ancient lumber. My question is if Scimitar Cactus is a decent thing to be lvl'ing off of. It caps at 78, so it would be a good inbetween until I can skill off of Elshimo Palms, which are also a gardening furnishing, but they seem to sell more on the AH. Are these usually npc'd? And if so, to whom? I realize I'm past the 50's so I'm not going to be making money by any means, but most of the other options just seem to be equivalent to just flushing my money down the drain.
If anyone can offer some advice, I'd love to hear it.

I find it funny that 72-80 looks a lot harder than 80-90. I'm trying to stockpile cheap ebony logs, make them into lumber, and then turn them into poles later... I'm still looking into things to make other than those crappy poles.

Is there a recommended level to start Woodworking?
I went to a Logging Point in E. Ronfaure...
And, all I got was this damn Ronfaure Chestnut.

Nice guide. It helped a lot. At what levels can you take the tests to get your rank higher? I know the first one is lvl 8, but after that is it 16 or 18?

here's a WW exam guide i made on my LS Forum.. please be aware prices are based on UNICORN server.

Craft Examintations:

--

8/10 - Recruit

Workbench (7) - Earth Crystal, x1 Laulan Lumber, x4

make this yourself

--

18/20 - Initiate

Maple Table (16) - Earth Crystal, x1 Maple Lumber, x4

1k in AH, but fun to make yourself, more sense of achievment lol

--

28/30 - Novice

Harp (27) - Earth Crystal, x1 Chestnut Lumber, x2 Coeurl Whisker, x1

cheaper to make yourself.

--

38/40 - Apprentice

Traversiere(37) - Wind Crystal, x1 Parchment, x1 (not Bast) Oak Lumber, x1

cheaper to make yourself.

--

48/50 - Journeyman

Rose Wand(47) - Wind Crystal, x1 Rosewood Lumber, x1 Black Chocobo Feather, x1

buy this from Jeuno for about 10k

--

58/60 - Craftsman

Kaman(57) - Wind Crystal, x1 Elm Lumber, x1 Bamboo Stick, x1 Silk Thread, x1 Wool Cloth, x1

i've not done this yet, but i am assuming its just cheaper to buy, buy from Jeuno because they inflate them in sandy.

A good question: Im stuck on 23 at the moment and the guide here shows I should start working on Silver Arrows. This requires some Goldsmithing skill right? Also no one sells Silver Arrowheads in the AH in my server. Is there another way to get to 30 ?

~~~
23-30 Silver Arrows- Earth Crystal, x1 Ash Lumber, x1 Silver Arrowheads, x1 Yagudo Fletchings
Ash Lumber, make it yourself, buy from Guild Shop, or buy from AH
Silver Arrowheads from AH, prices vary from 3-4k Gil a stack
Yagudo Fletchings from AH for 300-500 Gil a stack
Sell results at AH, it is your choice whether or not to put them into Quivers
There are two recipes for Silver Arrows. The one that requires Goldsmithing as a support craft uses silver ingots directly, and is less economical then the recipe which doesn't require a support craft. However, that recipe uses silver arrowheads.
Don't be afraid to level Goldsmithing to help you through this stage of Woodworking. Getting Goldsmithing up to 20 is pretty easy, and can even be profitable. Once you hit 20, you can skill up Goldsmithing by making Silver Arrowheads (just make sure to have image support while doing so).
If you absolutely, positively refuse to touch Goldsmithing right now, then check the following recipes for cost / returns:
- (26) Uchitake
- (28) Chestnut Lumber (if you want to buy logs from guild and save lumber for later)
- (29) Shihei
- (31) Bookholder
- (32) Chestnut Wand
one thing i found out while lvling WW on my mule is i started synthing arrowwood logs like the guide suggests for about 2 lvls, what i would recomend is possibly going with Luan lumber from 2-8...you will hardly fail at lvl 2 it caps at 7 1/2 possibly... i'm not sure the last skill up i got was at 7.5 and after about another stack of luan logs i didn't get any skill ups. then i tried ash lumber...no skill ups there for 6 stacks. after that i took the ash lumber and synthed ash poles which brought in .1 and .2 skillups quite frequently and you can NPC them for a slight profit. capped WW at 10 last nite doing ....
0-2 Arrow wood lumber <I NPCed this>
2-7 1/2 Luan Lumber <Used in Luan Shields>
7 1/2-10 ash poles and ash clubs <NPCed poles for slight profit and desynthed clubs for more ash lumber. got more breaks than wood so a loss there.>
i did take the luan lumber and crafted a few luan shields for a few .2 skill ups.
This is a pretty nice and fast way to lvl 0-10 in an hour if gil provides. Also kinda helped it was windsday... >.>
I think I just did Ash Log => Ash Lumber from 2 to 8. Ash logs are cheap from the NPC, and the supply is unlimited if you have airship pass. You could try and load up on the logs and then get image support until you hit level 3 or 4. But as cheap as the logs are (and as cheap as wind crystals are these days), it's probably just as well if you sit by the airship dock NPC and crank these out.
Ash Lumber is used in so many different recipes, you should be able to AH these. Given that it's used for making status bolts, stacks of these should sell fairly quickly.
I think I did Bronze Bolts (small loss) for one level after that, and started status bolts (Acid, Sleep, Bloody) at level 9. With advanced image support, it's not a bad way to go.
