Stealing Levels and Lock Picking Levels..

Currently my thf is at 30, wanting to raise to 45, but id rather stay on track with BLM again since i havent lvld it in over 7 months..

But i was wondering at what levels can i steal which coins succsesfully? I want gold ^^

And at what lvl can i pick locks? mainly looking for which lvl i can pick locks at FeiYen for life belts.

I saw a thread, i thought was on this site, that gave what lvl you need to be succsesfull to pick most all chests/coffers, anyone know of that thread?


Also with the stealing.. is it possible to go blm/thf and steal gold coins from mobs? or will i have to lvl my thf to a certain lvl?

shrug most that stuff is just bs heh, whm in my ls opened her BD coffer with 45 thf ;p as for coins its all just luck~ best to wait for 45 for hide tho ;p

I planned to steal gold coins from the af mobs in mosaic/davoi and theres a zone like 5 steps away, so I think i might go ahead and try that..


But the thing im wondering is.. i will prob go blm/thf instead of thf/??? would a /thf have the same chance as a thf/ at the same lvl?

i wouldnt think a 61blm/30thf would have a disadvatage compared to a 30thf/???

Ive now attempted stealing mobs at the monsaic/davoi zone and ive gotten 4 gold coins in like 4 hours.. so thats like 6k an hour..

And in terms of my standards.. thats good @__@;; since i usually farm cotton and get a stack that sells for 6k an hour..

Instead of going for gold beastcoins, you should try stealing Mythrils. There are a lot of places you can jack those from, Davoi is one of them, Gustav/LabyOnzozo gobs you can steal/hide, and if an exp pt is there- they will kill them, and refresh new ones for you to steal from.
You will have a much higher sucess rate with mtls. They're ~20k/stack, and better gil/hr for the most part, especially if you're thf is only lv30 :P

This is a bit off topic, but I guess it's close enough =). I'm level 25 right now, and just got the RSE glove quest. I'm supposed to go to the Maze of Shakrami (sp) and get the plans (or whatever) from a Treasure Chest (or Coffer maybe, I don't know). I'd love to do this at level 27, so that I can use them right away.

So anyway, on to my question. What level can I pick the lock of the coffer/chest to get what I need? Can I do it by 27? If I can't (or even if I can..) what level could one Thief (me) and one Warrior (my brother) take the monsters that drop the key? And what monsters are those? Also, any other info that you think would help me get my gloves would be great.

Thanks for any replies. I could have just gone out and figured it out on my own, but I didn't really want to go get myself killed trying for something I can't do anyway.

At lvl 30 I went to ordelles to help a whm and a drg get keys for their hume RSE, we didnt had any problem killing the mobs one at a time. Later I went to Shakrami to help an elvaan, and got killed by some aggro and linking crawlers. I opened 2 of the RSE chest, in gusgen mines, using skeleton key at lvl 31 the same day. Does anyone know if a mob has a certain coin refresh rate?

Say if i steal a coin from a mob, can i steal another right after steal is ready again?

Or does that mob have to be killed/spawned or have a certain wait period before stealing again?


I wonder if anyone knows a formula for steal succses/rate.

I wonder if anyone knows a formula for steal succses/rate. You can only steal one item per mob. If you steal Zone, zone back and steal again from the same mob you'll NEVER get another item from it. Just like if you have two thf's in a pt and one steals an item and the other steals after that person will NEVER get an item from that mob.

Cool, thanks for the reply, and the link =) I doubt I'll be getting a Shakhrami Key any time soon, so I guess I'll go try to pick the lock when I get near 27. =) Anyway, thanks again for the reply.

All i Know is i was Stealing Platinum BEast coins in NEwton MAlvalpolos w/e from Tough/even gobos as lv75thf~ 20k in 10mins!

ew crap....

Damn.. that kinda sucks.. very rarely do people come and kill the mobs there.. ive been stealing from the same 2 mobs for a few hours and wondered why ><

But i coulda sworn i stole another coin like 2 hours later from the same mob, and it didnt die >.x

You can in fact steal mutliple times from the same mob, BUT your success chance drops by a huge margin if you try that.

This has been tested in a 6x thief party on worms (I think). And they managed to steal multiple pebbles, but it got harder every time they managed to steal one.

yea mythril beastcoins rock. from level 32-37 i made 34k while leveling. got 2 stacks of them. just steal from every antican :thumbsup:

oh yea and i found that my highest success rates in stealing from them are when i am directly infront of them.

I too would love to see those tests. Never, ever seen it happen. As far as platinum goes, I was totally curious about that. I'm 71, and saw those VT/IT gobs in newton molvapolos...might have to drag an xp party there (better than spiders in dragon's aery for loot)

Sometimes I feel like making "A Thieves Guide to Leveling - how to end up in an area where you can steal good loot at any level"

...i swear if I could play this game for a living there would be so much better scientifically tested info about thieves out there.

That was something I read on this very forum almost a year ago before I had even started playing thief. Good luck on finding anything about it. Of course you could try it yourself.

Random note: I picked my Ozstroza Coffer at 50 with ~8 Thieve's Tools used. Same with Monastic Cavern, except for only taking 2 or 3.
