At least some new arrows besides the 9-10k Demons and the 2.5-3k Scorps. All depends on the price and quantity crafted. Once I see that I will decide what to use.

well... Considering I make my own scorpion arrows. And when I mean make, I mean fully make.

The incect fletchings, the scorpion arrowheads, and the wood.

figuring out the cost to be about 1347.1 gils per 99 scorpion arrows. [assuming I buy the wind crystals and scorpion claws, and insect wings]

so~

scorpion arrowhead 6x
600 - claw
1500/12 - bone chips
2000/12 - wind crystal

891.6 gils for 6 - 148.6 each

fletchings [insect] 6x
1000/6 - insect wings [2 per synth]
2000/12 - wind crystal

333.3 gils for 6 - 55.5 each

wood 1x [assume no HQ]
20 - arrowwood log ; ;
2000/12 - wind crystal

186.6 gils each

_______

148.6 + 55.5 + 186.6 + 700/12 [earth crystal] = 449.03 gils for 33 arrows.

449.03 * 3 = 1347.1 gils for 99 arrows [assume you don't blow any up]

______

Not bad for cheap arrows... then again this is calc as the highest cost. Sometimes scorp claws are 1000 gils ; ;[meh what are the odds]. I usually try to buy insect wings at 500 per stack and perhaps hunt my own wind. Considering my scorpion arrows really cost less than 1k gils per stack... using the new arrows is pretty much a waste of money [steel ingot... yea right].

Yea, it's such a pain to find out how much it really cost to make your own arrows esp when you make everything from nothing
^_~

hoping this will be a stepping stone between demons and kabura arrows, say make this a lvl 80 synth (for those of us that don't own a lushangs to break it)

but then, i'll bet the arrowheads will be around 20-30k per stack because of steel ingots.... and not sure how rare/expensive the tarus horn is.

Nah, it'll be less than that. It only takes 2 ingots to make a stack of the arrowheads. So thats probably 10k at worst. Any once all the HQ crafters get their hands on it, it'll probably be down to about 6-8k per stack.

I still don't see it being a super useable ammo at that price... but we'll see.

taurus horn is probably ridiculously expensive for now considering it's one of the new items that JPs have complete control over until NA COP release. Come NA COP release they'll probably cost a lot less. But the main benefit I see is an additional crafting recipe for woodworkers. What is kind of odd is that it might take more skill to make level 50 arrows than it would take to craft level 60 arrows, heh.

but steel ingots...? ; ;!

might be kind of dumb if it seems to be occupying the same slot as scorpion arrows.

Timoham

skill wise you mean? yeah that would just... suck.

poweryoga
09-17-2004, 04:23 AM
yea skill wise.

because demon arrows are lvl 50 also and those are in the lvl 60-69 lvling wood spot.

if these are in the same spot...

Demon are level 60 iirc. But yeah if they take up the same skill area, that really sucks for the people who already got past there. These seem like they'd be a lot cheaper to make than demon arrows x_x!

Checked out somepage and found this.

Sux. :\

my mistake, thought they were the same skill range as holy bolts... I don't use arrows much anymore so I tend to froget. :handsdown

lvl 68 synth? Guess its just a cheaper substitute for demon arrows...

Stolen from some random LJ I came across:

Scorpion Arrow
D24 Delay90 RngAcc+5

Bodkin Arrow
D28 Delay90 RngAcc+5

Flying Type
Target: Midnight Wings, Sauromugue Champagne, Lv20-23
Scorpion Arrow: 408 dmg
Bodkin Arrow: 339 dmg

Neutral Type
Target: Diving Beetle, Sauromugue Champagne, Lv25-28
Scorpion Arrow: 238 dmg
Bodkin Arrow: 255 dmg

Skeleton Type
Target: Lost Soul, Eldieme Necropolis, Lv42-46
Scorpion Arrow: 70 dmg
Bodkin Arrow: 133 dmg

Conclusion
Based on my extremely exhaustive experiment on a huge sample size, I conclude that the new level 50 Bodkin Arrows do not have the bonus against flying enemies, or the penalty against skeletons, that all other arrows and bolts have.

Dunno how true/false this is.

Yes, my understanding as well is that bodkin arrows suffer no damage penalty against bone mobs, but no bonus vs flying mobs either because they are not considered piercing damage.

Somewhat makes sense considered they use armored arrowheads.

of course they add them after i go through being gimp @ KRT -.- o well maybe ill start doin merit exp, should be a lil easier since i could go to sky or KRT now.

this also means they do normal damage against armored mobs (crabs)?

that's pretty damn good. ^^

They might actually be worth the price of making them with this information. I for one will always keep a stack or two on me for fighting undead and such. Hated getting paper so much because I hit liches for 40-50 compared to others hitting for the same or more. :(

Yogaz~

Crabs and beetles have no particular weakness or defense when it comes to damage type (piercing, crushing, etc).

This is evident from this site:
http://ff11.s33.xrea.com/cgi2/monster.cgi

They just have high defense.

Oy, so I'll jump in and fill in the gaps on these:

Synth levels for the arrowheads are 58 bone, and ~55 smithing, so not a great deal of people are able to make them in the first place. You can expect that given the price of the materials, the relative rarity of Taurus horns, and the few people who are able to make the arrowheads, the stacks WILL and do sell for 20-30K, even though they generally only cost 12-15K to make.

The arrows themselves cap at 58 wood (no sub skill required to my knowledge), so they are not ideally placed, but are not a bad alternative to skilling up from Demon Arrows. Of course, after Demon Arrows, you're still stuck. If you were trying to go straight wood you'd be spending 30+K a synth ^_^; if you don't raise any other skills fairly high. Yuck.

From what I've heard of the people I sold them too :p they do have a bonus vs. bone type mobs, which as someone pointed out, makes sense given they use "armored" arrowheads.

Ipwnz, there is a thread just a few threads down that refers to this bodkin arrow trait:

http://www.ffxionline.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=48609

Apparently the "glitch" was fixed, and now it does same piercing damage type as all arrows. I.e. back to being gimp on skeletons.

I actually noticed while hunting coffer keys in eldieme that the bodkin arrows seemed to be doing less damage per shot than scorpion arrows were. Perhaps when SE "fixed" them they broke them more than they should have? :P

It wasn't by much, only 4-8 damage difference, but scorpion was always outdamaging the bodkins on bones. O.o
