Ok, so obviously the best boots in my level range, and possibly ALL level ranges.... for a thief... are the leaping boots... they give 3agi/3dex as all of us know.
My question here today is this, if I have camped leaping lizzy for the past looonnngg time, and killed it like 20 times in a row with no drop... is it fine to just use my RSE boots until I have enough to just buy the damned boots?
I realize RSE boots(hume) give only 3 agi, and the leaping boots give 3 agi AND 3 dex... but lets face it... after like 0/2X times in a row, without a drop... Im getting a little pissed off with camping this thing.
Is this acceptable until I have farmed/saved enough to buy leaping boots? (Thank you.)
should be hehe, shrug i dont even wear all to much +dex anymore, hecta pieces and +attack +str equips~ if i could play thief over again i would try doing that the whole way. i honestly don't see much diffrence from tons of dex.

From what I know of the game, +2 dex = 1 accuracy. The same for agility.
Point is, leaping boots aren;t THAT special whatsoever. Its just a rare drop, which is why its so expensive. Battle gloves give FAR better stats, and they only cost 5k on my server.
Leaping Boots are better, however, is anyone going to kick you out of a party at low levels? (1-50) probably not... by that time you can probably farm the gil in about a week if you're incredibly slow... if you really want to play THF just do it w/o the best equip, no one will hate you for it.

Thief doesn't work like other melees. Trust me, it makes a difference.

Silly me... I tought the 6/54 Lizzy (in your sig) meaned that you have killed the lizard 54 times but only got the drop 6 times. What does it means?

Lol... That is what it means... I've killed Leaping Lizzy 54 times in my entire career of playing FFXI, and gotten the boots 6 times... Unfortunately I had sold all recent drops to help support the many other jobs I play, and recently I've killed Lizzy like 20 some odd times and she just doesn't drop anymore.... so I'm just going to farm until I can afford them.
Basically I wanted to know if I could last until level 50 without leaping boots and emp. pin.

Personally I wouldn't kick anybody out of the party that didn't have Leaping Boots and Emp. Hairpin. So there's your quick answer. But its so much more fun to play at the top of your abilities, and it doesn't take too long to get these items. I got both by just farming at Lv30 without ever camping LL or VE. Then again, I'm Elvaan so you have an obvious advantage over me anyways..

Or you could just be a mithra with 61 DEX and 58 AGI base at level 48.. <ducks>
No really, I don't see where it would make a huge difference either. I mean, it's clear not everyone has that kind of gil around (or necessarily time to camp the mobs), so if someone kicked you out for -not- having them, they'd be an excellent person to avoid for partying purposes period. If you were missing a weapon ("I can SATA with my bear hands, leet!") or /SMN and refusing to sub anything else, then I'd probably kick you!
The Hume RSE is excellent stuff if you ask me.. I see enough thieves around in AF that clearly choose not to wear the boots, so unless you absolutely must have that lovely lizard leather look, I'd not worry about it.

Would you kick a DRK/MNK/SAM out of your party because they didn't have Sniper's? Probably not. But it helps.
