Hi all, sorry for the noob post, I just wanted to be sure I have this right.
So this is how I understand it:
Fusion > Frag = light
Grav > Dist = drk
I believe the following order will result in lvl 2 sc's instead of 3's:
Fusion > Grav > Frag > Dist > Fusion
And I think that the rest don't chain:
Fusion > Dist
Dist > Frag
Frag > Grav
Grav > Fus
The ones I'm not sure about are:
Frag > Fusion
Dist > Grav
Can anyone help me out please? Confirm or correct my information, and tell me about those last two?
Thanks!

It should more accurately be written as
Fusion + Frag = Light
Grav + Distortion = Dark
+ rather than >, because you can reverse the order and still get lvl 3 renkei.

So that means that there aren't weapon skills who can only close or open SC's? So for example, Spinning Slash can both open and close light SC's?
Thanks in advance ^_^

Yes, either skill can be used to open or close, i.e. Frag (Spinning Slash) -> Arching Arrow (Fusion) still produces Light Renkei.

reason being
concerning LV3 renkei you are combining the 4 major elements that compose it
light = thunder wind fire light
dark = water ice earth dark
Fusion(Fire+light) -> Fragmentation(thunder+wind) -> Light LV3
etcetc

That makes sense, and that's what I thought, thank you ^_^ Was just getting conflicting info before. I was hoping to be able to test this out myself tonight, but my day went kinda like this (warning, rant ahead):
Get online at about noon PST. I'm @8.5k. See static rdm on, static brd not on. Wait till about 2pm, static rdm decides to log for a bit. Right after rdm logs, static brd gets online. Wait till about 2:50pm, static rdm gets online. Pt forming stage starts. Not much to choose from, have to settle for a 62rng, 61 blm, 64drk (me), 63rdm, 63brd, and 63war/nin. I know there are problems when the blm asks who's tanking -_-
We head out to Boyahda, and on the way to camp I find out the hard way that those stupid black mandras are aggro (yes I'm a noob). Chalk up death #1. We get to camp, no one is really happy with the war tanking (including the war). So I start looking for a replacement immediately.
Find a 65pld (only tank close to our lvl who's seeking and not afk, who will actually respond) who agrees to come. Takes him an hour to get there.
We warp out and get him, bidding fairwell to the warrior. Make our way back into camp and for our first fight we get an add. For some reason it was handled badly, and the rdm had to convert. Murphy decided to throw one of his laws at us and at that exact moment the slept crawler wakes up and dbl attacks our rdm, killinhg him. That was our other death.
So we raise the rdm and escape out. Make our way back to camp again, and the rdm has to afk. He's afk for 10 mins, and a crawler pops on him. So we get to sleep it and debuff it (generally screw around with it since the pld refused to fight it "Without a healer". Rdm comes back, we kill it, and rng says now he has to go. Siiighhh.
Pld decides he's going to go again too, but if we reform he'll join again. At this point I have about 2.5hrs left, and am debating even doing it. I did though. Got another 62 rng (best I could do on short notice) and the pld again. Rdm is afk again now because he has to cut the grass, so the rest of us walk to boyahda from jeuno.
We all finally get there, and all of a sudden there are 4 pt's throughout the different camp spots (not counting us, 3 exp and 1 skillup). We ended up going after crabs, but after 2 the pld has to afk to do the dishes. I'm down to about an hour and a half. He gets back, and we can barely find enough crabs to get exp chain 3.
Then at the start of the next battle, the pld says "Lets see if I can do this". Spams his abilities, then says "AFK taking out the trash". WTF! Fortunately when the mob turns I have the tp for a sa/ta/guillo. Sigh. Finish the battle, he's pretty happy with himself for having "held hate while afk".
Kill a few more, pld afk's again (now he's doing the dishes). He finally gets back, we can't find any crabs and I'm getting antsy (and pissed). I just pulled a gobbue so we could get ANY exp before pt breaks, in a desperate attempt to lvl (yes, my fault again) and find it's hitting our pld for 150-250 a hit. BLeh.
So ends my night, @3.4k till 65. Sorry for the long post lol, just one of those days.

i've encountered PTs like that, but at later levels i always made mostly JP PTs with my DRK, because during those times, the only NAs i knew were still lower. So i got into the style/habit of the JP PT, which is to form together, go to camp, EXP steadily, no distractions, occasional toilet break (at which we actually seek permission before AFKing), and when someone decides to leave (usually after 2-3 hours) then we all return to jeuno and disband, and reform if we want to.
I think you get much less "unwelcome surprises" that way.
as for your story, it's unfortunate to hear, but your PLD is someone i would really really get mad with as well ><;;

I like the JP's style of party much better :) At this point my goal is to get spinning slash then start massing zilart missions.
Oh, and I noticed in your sig you're working on a drk website, good luck! Will be cool to see once it's done ^^

Thank you, I haven't really started, because I'm a habitual procrastinator, and real life keeps me busy ^^
good luck with your skilling, i think skilling is rather fun, cause every time the skill up line pops up, it's a little adrenaline rush.
When you get the line + the skill level up, it's even more exciting.
