What is the best way to raise evasion for a thf?

The best suggestion I've gotten so far is to got to Castle Oztroja as thf/whm and play "Hide" and go seek with high level Yagudo.

Any other suggestions?

Also, does evasion level up from actually evading, being hit, or both? (ie. should I wear evasion down or evasion up equip?)

Thanks in advance,

FYI: My evasion is 174/200+

As long as you are being attacked you will have a chance of leveling up evasion, aslong as you are not capped and the mob is high enough.

It doesnt matter if you evade or are hit.

you'll get more ups with - evasion gear like coral earrings.
try to find monk type mobs like orcish champions in monastic cavern to up skill, going much faster then

For me, leveling Evasion came down to other leveled jobs. With having taken RDM to Lv.30 to start, then DRK to Lv.51, my evasion is cap'd to DRK51. So I'm more then set for my THF's evasion.

The one I'm having a hard time leveling, is parrying. It only seems to go up when I farm. I haven't spent a whole lot of time tanking, and even then, my Parrying Skill is Lv.81. So it will be a while before it starts to go up more. But I've gone from Parrying Lv.50 to 81 over months of farming. Farming Tigers is what really raised it that high.

What I'm finding hard to level, is Guarding. With my Evasion and Parrying cap'd to Lv.51, and 40+ for Parrying, I evade or parry an attack before I Guard it. I'm also MNK7. lol

For raising shield, parry, guard, and evasion I find that monsters with fast attacks usually help them raise the best. So MNK type Yagudo, Mandragora, Malboro, Tigers, ect...

Otherwise the rest that attack at a sort normal pace is very slow to get your skills raised on them.

tanking aura pots to get water drop may not be fastest but shrug ;o not wasting your time either

Yagudos at the top floor are okay when you're in the low 60's, but assassin might paralyze you and prevent hide from working. I used full evasion gear at the zone between boyahda and cloister of storms. Steelshells capped evasion up to around level 70. After that, I let dolls in ru'avitau beat the crap out of me in the faust area and used hide when things got too heavy.

Parrying and shield are difficult to skill after getting full evasion. I have capped evasion and about -32 evasion penalty equipment for skilling those.

I still believe leveling evasion outside an xp pt is the best idea (lest my static smite me ^^;;; ) so I'll run off to Castle Oztroja tonight while keeping a careful eye out for Assassin's and Paralyze (thanks for the heads up!)

Granted, this'll be very annoying, but it should help farming and a tad bit in xp pts. Also, it'd be nice to actually max all my rank A skills.

Lol my method was, in EXPing 70-74 Takes place mostly on Tulia Weapons. So go /war and then every time they use whirl of rage you will skill up.

ps. your party will forgive you because of the damage boost per W S :P

My evassion is not capped though, its at 267.

I got the last 15-20 points of evasion from pulling in Dynamis, worked great :D

I suggest concentrating on Yagudo Flagellants, especially if you are in the lower 60's. These have worked wonders for me. Other yagudo are too risky sometimes if you're alone (and pre-erase on a whm sub, which I currently am).

Flagellants are monk type yagudo who hit twice per round (sometimes more, they double attack), but have no spells and whatnot to weaken you otherwise. You have twice the opportunity to skill evasion, but half the risk. Just watch the surrounding yags for links (hide the moment you get one) and watch your hp. Remember to hide just after his attack round, since my Hide has been known to insta-wear if he is still attacking.

200/207 at the moment. I started at 168 on these things.

I raised my envasion a good 10 levels when I got the crap beat out of me pulling when I tried /rng. Just dont use shihei in a pt.....

I tried not using shihei in party. The worst happened. I pulled a peryton, used flee as I was a bit far, another peryton had popped in the way, was unable to avoid the link, and I died.

It's a good idea in some cases...
