Does having a required sub skill for a particular synthesis help increase the rate of High Quality synths? Or is it just a general requirement.
Example. Silver bullets require Alchemy (52) & Goldsmithing (24)
Will increasing Goldsmithing past 24 help increase HQ results. Would a person w/ 90 Alchemy and 40 Goldsmithing get more results then a person with 90 Alchemy and 30 Goldsmithing. What about 80 Alchemy and 50 Goldsmithing.
See what I'm getting at? Thanks to anyone who has any idea ^^

No clue, but since if you have below the required secondary skill, it makes synthing much harder, and it seems to make 2 skill checks (have gained skill in both crafts from one synth)...
Well, I'd say that most likely it might help.

from what I heard sub skill matters just as much as the main skill for HQs. I have not tried this, so this is just stuff I've read.

I started power skilling Woodwork two days ago so I can get to 60 with it fast and made Silver Arrows from 21-30. I noticed that I was failing a great deal on them (irrelevent, but still), a lot more than I am now on Beetle Arrows of Maple Sugar before that. While going through MysteryTour (http://mysterytour.web.infoseek.co.jp/ffxi/us/index.html) for Ninjutsu Tool recipes, I noticed that Silver Arrows actually require a sub Smithing skill of seven which I don't have. Draw your own conclusions from that.

which recipe are you using russta? the silver arrowhead + yagudo fletching + lumber one doesn't require smithing.

Yeah, and the arrowhead route is also much cheaper on my server. 1 silver ingot for 33 silver arrows? (No thanks.)
Anyway, I'm inclined to say, "Yes, yes, YES." to the original posters question. Long ago I had Bone 1, Smithing 60. I noticed while leveling a low level job that there were no Xiphos up for sale, so I thought I'd craft several of them since the normals were a small profit and the HQ were, obviously, even more so (and I had free AH space :D) Xiphos cap at 2 bone and 10 or so smithing, and I was not able to HQ a damn one, even when bone hit 2. This was out of about 12-15 attempts. I'm still pawning off the last couple Xiphos.
