is it a little wierd that every singe way to make a decent amount of money in this game had been abused to the point where your better off doing something else. Lets take silver Ingots for example, you used to be able to make 100k in a day or more with only lv 30 Gold smithing, Now it costs more to make the ingots then the ingredients themselves.
Today I decided I wanted to mix thing up a bit and farm Mimas in del tower. what do you know the CHinese sweat shop workers called yang yang and so forth are farming and camping there. so me and a friend went up there, he trained like 3-4 giants on himself so there voke macros wouldnt work, and I got a good 3 kills. No drop, he had to go and I decided to camp there for a little while longer. the 15 minute timer had been up and low and behold Mimas had spawned and right when it was still appearing its name is purple...I gave up on that
I do some research on other Nms, No point on even trying any of them because the japanese have 50 Voke bots on everysingel one so whats the point, then I have to work my ass off farming tambar beat in sau for 3 weeks to buy a haubergeon that some jap farmed in a few hours....Wtf
common people, when we farm for money and buy these items we are just supporting Bots, Its required that I spend 3 weeks farming or else Im gimp? Im just gonna have t sit in jeuno anyways whats the point.
why is square not only making us sit in jeuno for hours because the over abundance of melees, but making the things we need cost millions of gil that we have to farm for weeks.
I still dont see how crafting makes you alot of money, because if it was that good of an Idea, japanese would be botting the Goldsmithing merchants so you couldnt get any items....
/killself
so what im asking is, how do you make money and deal with this problem
:(

... since when do people farm Haubergeon's in few hours.
btw, if you're farming for Haubergeon then actually FARM for it, not NM camp. NM camp is a real waste of time when you're trying to get gil for things you need as a Drk. Mimas is probably the worst NM to camp for as well. Drop rate is low, and the axe itself is very cheap (4k? I think). Farm Tigers, Cockatrice (as you do), anything is better than 4k/15 mins IF it drops. Or here's a thought if you don't know how to farm Delkfuts like so many Drks do... go farm Buburimu; Buburimu farming can make around 10k an hour if you try.
I'm on midgardsormr, and everyone knows about our economy. Even on midgard sure the price is high but gil is still made. Heh know a 60ish Drk now that had recently got his Haubergeon. He had farmed 28 stacks of Tree Cuttings (40-50k a stack). I declined his 28 stacks for 1 haubergeon deal when I was selling Haubergeon to get gil for Hauberk though. But he managed to buy one luckily.
What I see many drks doing now though is they are selling their Sniper Rings to make the gil for Haubergeon. (Sniper Rings on Midgard = 650-680k+ gil, and Haubergeon = 2.9-3mil).
The people who farm delkfuts tower are not farming the NM's.. only IF the NM pops they will grab. They are farming Giants for the gil they drop, and Pots for the Pot shards they drop, and Idols for the Doll shards they drop.
Synthing IMO gets you actual profits at lvl 50+ and when you can HQ a lot of lower lvl synth items. ie. Goldsmith = HQ stat Rings.
IMO someone is just a tad bit prejudiced, there are the people that cry about something and then there are the people who figure things out for their own.

What I ment buy farming for haubergeon was they farm the money needed to buy one, yes i know you cant actually farm for one, seeing as there are +1 verions. Guess Ill just farm tambars or something, I got 500k already, and im probably not even gonna bother with snipers, just gonna go str8 to haubergeon. Most of that money was from Uts. Ichi quests and BCNM 40, so I dunno how im gonna get the oterh 1.1 mil, Plus I need to buy new rings, Scythes Neck pieces....

What I find weird is so many Drk's now are trying to get Haubergeon BEFORE they can wear it. As before people looked at Haubergeons as a luxury and got them in the 60's. I personally got Haubergeon or to be more specific Damascus Ingot from Simurgh when I was lvl 60 (I was early to get to do HNM's :p). Spent about 100k on ingredients, and got one of the highest Blacksmiths on the server to synth it. I finally sold the Haubergeon to a lvl 63ish Drk that had been farming for ages to afford the 3 mil (yes.. he farmed 3 mil) to buy it off me.
When you get higher lvl it's easier to get gil faster.. this has been proven so many times. I went to getting about 10k/hr to now getting about 90-100k in about 4 hours. All because I'm higher lvl and can 1. kill things easier and 2. not get aggro.

Lol man your lucky, you basically won a Lot on a haubegeon in a HNm raid, my Ls can barly do BCNM 40, and the Ls that can isnt excepting members till lv 65, and even then ur lotting against 18+ people, =(, one good part is its onle 1.6 mil on my server, and ive already got the .6 part.
Im thinking about lving cooking to 40, so I can double the profit I made on mithkabobs, I can farm a stack of tmbars, and farm fire crystals adn Onions on my mule at the same time, 2 stacks becomes 100k, (3100per/stack X 12 = About 40k) plus bird feathers to fill in the holes, does this sound like a good idea? or is it just a waste of time ?

I just finished a kindred pot run.
less than 10k
/quits game
I just spent a good 400k to powerlevel my smithing and buy furniture so I can fish rusty items and synth on the spot... currently taking in about... 15-20k an hour... #*@$#@
I'm just glad the price of 'geon is hovering steady at 1.2mil

Money isn't hard if you have no life (like me) and you can stand to do repetative and boring patterns all day (like me)... and by the way, I bought my Haubergeon at lvl 51, and put it on at lvl 59. ...and yes, I do look down on any DRK's who don't have it. >:P

I know it sounds pretty cheap but this is what i do.
My white mage is a lvl 41 on a different playonline ID i use her on my laptop right infront of my keyboard for my desktop. I do teleports from Jueno to anywhere whenever I play ffxi (about 8 hours a day.) I usually make 80k-100k a hour buy just sitting around and whenever i am done with a fight with my Drk or done crafting I macro out my teleport services. When the teleports are running slow I will go hunt Tigers or i will go sit around and watch for leeping lizzard. :: shrug :: I still haven't got boots from the liz. but i am working on it :). Also used to level my white mage and my drk at the same time but i can only do that if the party has a redmage in it with me as a backup healer :). I always let the party know before they invite me that I am playing on my primary computer and if shit hits the fan that i will let them all die before I let my Drk die :). (kinda bad but i can deal losing lvl 40 exp but lvl 55 exp makes me cry when i die.)

Something stupid people do is they lose tons of gil powerlevelling a craft, then get upset when they don't make money back right away..
I've broken even, and most likely have actually made 100k from slowly levelling Smithing in the part time.. It's at 55 now, and I if I need cash, I can easily make ~20-25k gil per stack of Darksteel, by doing 12 synths.
Raising Goldsmithing now, at 41 and have also broken even if not made a profit from it.
I cry for people who powerlevel.. kill the economy and lose gil at the same time..
screw haubergeon, get a brd, lvl up. get into better LS's, kill bigger stuff, get a hauberk, lvl up faster. quit drk at 75 and never look back. it's not worth busting your ass for a long period of time, when you realize how pointless drk is at endgame~

I can generally make 17-20k an hour if i'm in a complete rampage and that usually means constantly running and killing choice mobs
in a certain area. Goldsmithing, Gardening, and hunting are what are now keeping me afloat. I feel players need the 3 aspects to
eventually make really good Gil gains.

MY ADVICE IS TO JUST FARM A NICE STEADY PACE. an dont worry about haubergeon. mix matching royal knight armor, an af armor is perfectly fine for right now. then wait, wait til lvl 60. weapon skill 200. guillotine.. an by then farming will never be the same....

This is kind of not the point of this thread, but here it goes
You said its the devs fault for the over abundance of melees? Dont people choose what kind of characters they want to make?

not so much that, just that they made our job so damn expensive, or acc stuff so hard to come by

Hello. It took me about 1 month of off and on camping nm's to buy my Haubergeon when I was level 60-61. I tried farming some money but I guess I don't know of any really good locations because the places I went to I wasn't making as much /hr as if I was camping NM's. I tried going to Delkfut but that wasn't making much. In that month, I got 4 leaping boots and 2 archer rings. Just whatever works for you. I enjoy camping NM's and have been doing it for a very long time so it's my first choice of money making. Don't forget to do other stuff mean while such as gardening, it helps out as well.

Ya I do about the same as well 80-100k in about 3-4hours too cause I hate farming for long periods. And of course its not AH'ed all to NPC.

w awntawn, my last 2 kindred pot runs = 3 phoenix feathers each. fun for the family.
but seriously, first poster, you might want to avoid the multitude of racial slurs you're exhibiting in your first post. do more BCs, play another job, you also get seals that way, farm a little.
i wore AF for a good while before getting haubergeon/hauberk, its not exactly an easy task to earn one
getting there is half the fun.

wear your full AF and if people ask why u dont have a Haubergeon just snap on em and say
"I'm not fucking rich like these JP botters i can just buy a Haubergeon at any time i want FUCK YOU"
my 2 cents

Another problem that na players just dont seem to ever consider is how few people really have these extremely expensive items, relatively speaking, and how much longer the jp players have had to play this game when compared to us.
The people that have had 3x the time to make money, are deciding the market, the prices of items...i dont really care how much gil a few exceptional na players have managed in the past year, if they have played that long, its insignificant when compared to the jp players that are just as dedicated. The people with the money ultimately set the market, and that will likely never be the na population. We are outnumbered^^;

haha yeah Kumaeru, i dont know about you but
before hauberk, anticipation/desire for it was overwhelming.
After getting, it's just the "armor i wear to fight", taken for granted.
Anticipation on upgrading to a nice great sword, overwhelming.
Now, using balin's, got the curvy blade, seems common place, not special anymore. Taken for granted.

I think every drk by 60 has 100% 0 excuse not having duel snipers and assault. I use to have gill problems mainly because until 60 ur basicly farming shit. now i can go earn 150k in like 8 hours work and have money maker on the side.
If your not going to get the gear then get out. there are to many drks PERIOD and all the ones that dont put effort into it put the whole job down. I guess im going to hear how why should i have 4 subs jobs lvled or why should i have gswd and scy capped. Flat out, i basicly hate all the bad drks on valefor. shit i almost was going to quit drk because of all these fucken horid drks but i found out how much ninja was gona cost me lol.
Playing on valefor i basicly went through some tough times at 60 not seeing a pt invite for week at a time. So what do i do? bitch and moan? nah go farm and come back. If you have the gear everything else takes care of itself over time. dont like it? play a mage and stfu.

Yeah, FFXI is not gil friendly @_@. You will work your ass off for stuff, three months earlier/other servers, had/have it easy. Just do what everyone else does and blame the highest level JPN HNM LS on your server ;).

I really think the JP players and NA players should be separated into different servers...JP's take this too seriously and play like 18 hrs a day....its not fair for people like me who go on for once every 2 days for like 2 hours for fun....fun....hehehe

This is a harsh post but I agree with it. Haubergeon/snipers are not a luxury, they're a necessity by 60. When you're fighting Perytons, cockatrices, and toramas, you need every bit of accuracy you can get your hands on. Without these things, you are a gimp and a liability to the party. DRKs, WARs, and SAMs need around 30 ACC by 60 IMO.
Don't like it? Be a bard.

This reminds me of the how the how much is too much, and at what point are you overdoing it thread.
Well, that is interesting. I just hit 58, and have:
Royal Knight arms: 3 acc
2x snipers: 10acc
life belt: 10 acc
Vassago's: 5 acc
Spike necklace: 3 dex, 3 str
Royal Knight's legs: 2 str, 2 dex, (+3 attack?)
Royal Knight's chest: 2 str, 2 dex, (+3 attack?)
Centurion's Visor: +1 dex (can't find one of the Juggler's headbands for +3 dex yet)
Mythril boots (Royal Knight boots with 2 or 3 agility do nothing for me)
At 57, I was was using the barb scythe instead of the Vassago's, which was -5 acc, so I effectively had +18acc, and let me tell you, I was missing like mad. I just hit 58 so I didnt get to see if there was really a marked improvement with the vassago and having +5 more acc, which gives me 28 instead of having -5 acc and 18 effective acc.
I was thinking of saving up for a Haub, but I I'm at 250k now and I'm sick of farming gil for now. If I drop all of my dex gear and get more acc instead of it, am I really doing myself a favor?
Right now, I can still get a royal knight collar (+4 acc) that will take me up to +32 acc, but I'd have to take off my spike necklace, which means I'd lose 3 str and 3 dex. I don't know if stacking more acc is a good idea at this point... I just can't help but to remember how uber my hit rate was with the BRD acc buff though. I thought there might be a point of diminishing returns for acc, but that buff would seem to indicate otherwise, wouldn't it?
What to do, what to do.....
