Which skillcraft would be the best for a RDM to start? I have fished a bit but its not bringing in the gil I need for a RDM.

Any. RDM is no different than any other job, unless you plan to craft your own gear, in which case Bone, Leather and Cloth are really the only things that could benefit from. From strictly a profit standpoint, there is no craft that is better suited for one job than another.

Even cooking can benefit all jobs, as all players should use food of some kind while in exp parties.

OK,

Thanks for the reply. I know this might sound retarded but how do I get started on any of these crafts...

The craft to make money until you reach a higher level and can take part in more profitable events/quests is going to be a hidden skill called farming.

Personally I do alchemy, but not for profit, but because it is my lot for crafting I do in my LS, and I am by no means good at it yet, only 22.5 skill. But if you're not really able to even fund your job, you're not going to be able to get a craft to a profit level, except the basic low level insect paste type profit in cooking.

Good traditional farming yields ~20-25k an hour if you're smart about location/method.

BCNMs can yield tremendous profits. My LS and I made 3.5 million gil in 4 hours off 10 back to back to back BCNM40s for example. Even if split evenly between 8-10 people you're still looking at substantial profits.

Because you're just now reaching the 40 mark, I'm betting you have plenty of seals saved, and that finding a competent and useful BCNM group might be the best option for you to make some gil now.

Oh My,

I must be the newbiest of newbies..

I have heard talk of these BCNMs are they high profile enemies?

How can I find a group to slay these guys... Just put it in my Search Info?

Also my LS has kind of died out on Siren. No one is ever on, I think I also have to find a better LS....

The hardest part is getting a BRD. They are in high demand for BCNM (40 especially) and you really cant do it without one.

The reason they are profitable is beacuse each time you win, you get a treasure chest with a bunch of items. Typically most of them are common that only sell for 2-5k, but sometimes you get the jackpot like Phalanx, Erase, and Utsusemi: Ni scrolls. These all go for big money, so over the course of 5 or 6 BCNM wins that you get average 1 scroll in each, all people walk away with 150K or more. Not bad for a few hours work.

Cooking to at least Pineapple Juice level (like 26?) helps a lot. If you're gonna take one all the way tho I'd recommend alchemy. That way you can insure someone in your LS can outfit people with Crimson if you're ever at that point, and that's what you're going to want yourself.

Yes pretty much. Check out some of the guides in the forums on this website. They are very insightful. I followed the guide for Alchemy and was up to 14 in no time. I'm going to take Goldsmithing all the way, but I got my Alchemy up just enough so I could make myself some Echo Drops for partying in Quicksand Caverns.

I've heard Alchemy is good for Red Mages, so you can craft your Crimson Mail much much later on?

I thought the same thing.. But there are people who play ffxi merely to level up. No quests no missions just level level level level.
