harp : does itreally increase range?>

now, that looks far, but in reality they were VERY close to each other

unless the fact my stringed is not capped has any factor, or maybe its the harp im using. but i have seen 0 increase in range

I've never done a scientific analysis, but my personal experience from using harp v. wind instruments is that the range increase is huge. Maybe it's just how it feels, but my harp songs are always accidentally extending the range I had intended for them to cover, where as I never have a problem like that with my wind instruments. Maybe there is some other variable that explains the appearent lack of range in your experiment.

Yeah the only thing that would explain it is your string skill not being leveled. I have done similar tests and harps has almost twice the range as a wind instrument.

Actually i have discovered that the song you sing can affect the range of the song using the harp.

Ex: The range of Minn III when i use a harp or wind seems to stay the same but when I use harp with ballad it is much larger than that with a horn

I noticed certain songs appear to have different ranges...because once I was singing something on the backline and then I didn't move and sang a different song and only the second song hit the front line.

Also, harps always had huge range for me...I'm not sure what's going wrong for you.

harp range DID affect Minne's range

did NOT affect Paeon's range

did NOT affect madigral range

did NOT affet minuet range


thats all i have really to test, not 25 yet

Weird, i've found that every song i sing harp with has a longer range. Now, i haven't tried it with everything, but for me, madrigal, minuet, ballad, paeon, and the etudes all have longer range with harp. So do the enfeebles such as threnody and requiem.

Maybe i'll have to be more scientific about it...

I'm having a hard time understanding what you're trying to get at. In my 72 levels of Bard experience, harps have always had a HUGE range, at least twice as large as wind instruments.

for me harps only increase range of Ballad and Minne i asked a 74 bard and a 65 bard and they said the same thing

Harps increase range of all my songs, but for my higher level songs I can't notice any difference (so either they don't increase range, or they increase it only very minimally). I don't know whether this is fixed per song, or based on the level difference. I do know that I get a simply enormous range out of Paeon I ...

One thing you might want to consider as well is what type of Harps you are using vs. what type of Wind Instruments. Most likely also some Harps may have a hidden attribute that players are noticing and is why their songs seem to have larger ranges.

It makes full logical sense to me, some songs and how they are composed always sound better on 1 instrument vs. another instrument. That is also including within instruments of the same type, a flute vs. a horn and depending on the harps they'll have wide variety of sounds and how lustrous the sound is.

That sounds like another possibility to find what you are trying to see.

I've also noticed that certain songs have different ranges. I was singing Army's Paeon II with my harp and the mages that were resting at the very edge of my radius got the song. But when I sang Mage's Ballad with the same instrument, the mages were not hit.

I would say the difference in radius between the 2 songs was about the length of a galka standing sideways.

I would have to agree that it is song specific as to whether or not range is increased with string.
I was in a leveling party the other day, and was playing ballad after battle. When I played Ballad II I noticed that those closer to me only recieved the effect, but when I played Ballad I it reached the people quite far from me. I'd go as far to say that Ballad II's range is the same regardless of what type of instrument. But generally harp has a much larger radius.

Some songs seem to have smaller range. Most noticable one is Chocobo Mazurka. The range is so small, its really easy to miss someone.

I also noticed this once, but after a while ballad I and ballad II's range seemed to become the same, maybe it has to do with your skill level.

I found that Requiem on Harp does LESS range than Elegy on Horn.

The top tier songs have a much smaller range. But harp does increase the range of most if not all songs wether its noticeable or not.
