I got the dreaded BSOD (Black screen of death) on my main character again! My storage character is fine. Last night, I was doing the Sand quest, the relatively new one about finding a thief. When I went to talk to Philone?, BSOD happened. Itried to log in after the latest patch, but still BSOD.
Usually, the only remedy for this on PS2 is to reinstall everything. 2 main problem with this is that 1) It takes a loooooooong time to reinstall, and 2) You lose all your macros!
2) hurts the most since I have Macro lines for RDM, SMN, BLM, and Solo.
This is my 4~5th BSOD and first in about 5 months:mad:
Not sure why that happens :( After I re-configged all my settings and such (like I told you before tomoh) everything was fine and I havent had this happen in for some time now.

Apoc, I remember you telling me to reconfigure mail and keyboard. Problem is for me is not from typing something that's not in the configuration. It just turned Black when I entered a room. Before, it was one area in Saramouge.
I guess I'll just re-install the game again. Sigh:(

You have to reinstall!? That's a bit serious.
I've had the BSOD about 2 or 3 times, but never had to reinstall. I remember clearly once was in Qufim near the tunnel to Behemoth's Dominion. It took me a while to log back in because they have a cooldown period on dirty logouts. Well, I hope you get back up and running soon anyway.

Could it be something to do with your HDD? I notice significant differences between my old PS2+external HDD and the new internal HDD one, things load much quicker and there is a lot less lag on the new one. I have only experienced BSOD once or twice on the old one (but never had to re-install), and never had any trouble at all on the new one, maybe its time to buy a new PS2? or better yet, the new dark silver PSX...

I re-installed just Jiraad expansion disc. I did a non-clean install, which retains macros. It worked:)

Speaking of the devil, my PS2 pulled a BSOD on me last night right when we were fighting Dynamis Lord... and it wasn't just me, a couple other ppl also DC at the same time. There was no zoning, no R0, no complicated actions, the screen just went black out of nowhere – and the PS2 showed a dialog box that the PS2 must be restarted rather than the usual network error message for R0 DC. This has happened to me before in Dynamis Windhurst (also multiple people DCed), but not at such a critical time - its a very serious bug that SEX definitely needs to fix.
