I came across this thread and couldn't help but think how true this was on my server. I don't know how many people read this thread but this is 100% true on my server what about the others?
http://ffxi.allakhazam.com/forum.html?forum=29&mid=1085365525207292127&num=54
anyways my question would be is it like that on your server or is it just on a couple?
Note: this isn't a flame toward anyone or whining infact its the way things are on some of the servers, especially on mine.

I'm sorry, but if he only has 1 million gil by lvl 75 then he has a serious money making issue. I know lots of NAs with upwards of 20 million gil and they are not even level 65 yet. How? By crafting and figuring out tricks of their particular trade.

Well, at least Midgardsormr isn't like that. We have several high level NA LSes here and some of those people are really loaded. I think I saw a GO member with noble's tunic (about 10 mil) a while ago.

My opinion is that if you rush through the levels and don't take the time to enjoy what you're doing and your only motivation is to be level 75, you won't be satisfied in the end.
That may just be my excuse for only being level 31, but...whatever.

Im sorry theres no truth in that guys post at all.
All th eproblems he's seem to be having comes from something i Know players of all MMOs have.. Its lack of patience.
the only NA playrs I know that have quit are those at the level 50 cap.
and those that ran to 75 to be "uber".
Even on your server I doubt its 100% true.
You don't need to learn japanese to play a game. laern it to expand your mind AND play a game. You may go there one day.
I AM so sick of this I can't beat JP to NM's because of the time diff and connection speed. The time dif is soooooooo infinitesimal that It doesnt even factor into the equation.
Example. When i played Anarchy Online , I felt great that i lived about 10 minutes from durham , where The NA servers are located.
My friend in philly connected better than I did. and I lived closer.
If he can't beat the JP, How come I can?
I've been playing statesside for 2 years and never had the issue that many NA players have.
What about those playing in HK, or taiwan or euro. They don't complain abotu this " I can't beat jp to NM thing."
Most of the problems many NA encounter in FFXI were brought on to themselves.
Geez last year at release MANY Jp and other backgrounds JUST on Ramuh alone took it upon themselves to help teach newbs about the game.
that patience thing got the best of them, and they didnt wanna hear it. They played DAOC, or AO , or EQ, and godforbid SWG, so they "Knew" how to play.
I dont even have a max toon yet and been playin forever. I know more abou tthis game than folks that are level 75 3x over.
I "know " the game, kinda like i know my neighborhood. Not the new guy who just moved in and made friends with all the neighbors so he "knows" everything.
Why Is it that I can still find PLENTY to do that many NA's can't?
I dun get it personally.
I have noticed the one common thread linking every forum and ingame subject many NA's hark on.
The overwhelming need to beat or be accepted by the JP.
You can't play just to play?
And how do you knwo that guy on theotherside is really JP? becuase they wont answer you? or they send you a tell in hiragana? What about the importers that are good in JP?
or the NA players that imported?
Seems like this "divide" is being created by and for the NA players.
I knwo about 40 NA players on my server alone in many HNM ls and dynamis LS and what not.
I also know soem of the more patient NA's that spend their time doing more than levleing to cap.
that guys post is a lil bogus actually and not very valid at all.
You should tell him to come here and read this one.
Its not a flame, but I do get tired of NA players "blaming" square or the japanese for everything wrong with FFXI.
Time to look in the mirror.

Being on bahamut, I know exactly what that person is talking about. If you attempt to camp an HNM against a powerhouse JP LS like PG, you might as well go home. They will get the claim, and they will kill it. As for NA being unable to kill HNM and gods, this is false. I believe my LS and other "NA HNM LS" have killed plenty of HNM and gods (besides Kirin). My LS alone has 18 level 75s, 40 level 70+, and 38 level 60-69. As for Dynamis, its pretty hard for NA to go. Since there is strong "competition" between the NA LS's, theres no chance that they would work together to go Dynamis. Most JP LS that go to dynamis won't allow NA to go unless you meet some requirement (don't really know myself).... and most JP won't go to dynamis if its hosted by a NA LS....

It's not the truth, it's an opinion.
He never really addresses the reason why so many of his friends are quitting. I've been playing for two years and I'm not level 60 yet. Do you hear me moaning?
Either pace the game for yourself, or burn yourself out. There are many NA players that have hit 75 already, in around 6 months. What do you expect to do after that? There were a few JP players reached 50 way before anyone else when the game first came out, but what could they do? They couldn't even beat Shadow Lord at that level.

Well, seeing as his post touches mainly on high-level, end-game content, I am inclined to agree.
What is there for high-levelers specifically? Only thing I can really think of is twinking your chara with leet gear via hunting HNMs and Dynamis. If you don't like any of these, or just plain don't feel like investing the time/money then you're fucked as far as high-level content goes.
Ask anybody who's ever actively hunted any HNM, and they'll tell you that the JPs 100-200ms less latency does give them an advantage over winning pulls. It's not an excuse; it's fact. When you're hunting Behemoth and there are 50 people standing around just pure turbo spamming provoke/dia/whatever, there is no skill involved: it's a pure test of how fast your commands reach the server (of course, with some other limitations like mob spawn position, etc).
Dynamis is a crock of shit; it's about as enjoyable after the first few times as making love to a cactus. The only reasons people regularly go are: 1) To get Relic/AF2; and 2) They have nothing better to do.
And yes, I know there are a ton of other things to do, but most of those can be done at any level (which again has nothing to do with the guy's post; the entire thing is about high level content).
Also I don't think it's really accurate to say that people are 'trying to beat the JPs.' It's just their competitive nature to want to be among the best; and competing with people with a 1.5 year head start is pretty frustrating. Just so happens that the current 'cream of the crop' are all JP (naturally), so it's a semi-logical next step to classify all of them as just plain JPs.

I think its funny that he figures it would take him 3 months at 5 hours a day to get 10,000,000 gil.... he obviously doesn't understand farming at all. I know tons of places that aren't over camped where you can farm scrolls or armors that sell well. Set up your bazaar andjust go :)
I was looking at the Vana'Diel census yesterday before maintenance and it was helpful. It showed what main jobs were and what level the vast majority of the population was. With info like this, you know what to farm and what levels to cater too.
I'd suggest he take up crafting or fishing (I don't do either yet, but I'm only a lvl 30 Noob ^^, and make my easy 30-40k farming), as they bring ingood money too.
On a side note I love how 3-4 posts in it turned into a "JP are the best, PC are good and PS2 are noobs" thread. When will people learn that if they were to just be a little more understanding and help PS2 players instead of yelling at them and booting them when they screw up, we'd have better players.
I play PS2 with my JE flag up , andhavegotten praise from JP parties in both Valk and Qufim for how I play THF/NIN. This wasn't what I even planned on being, but I enjoyed it so much early on that I have decided to make it my main. I didn't know anything about ninjitsu or ninja tools, but I got my Norg fame and did my Tonko and Utsesemi quests (still gives me nightmares) so that I didn't look like a gimp leveling my sub.
I think that is mymajor pet peave is people with gimped subs IN PARTIES. Gimp it all youwant when farming, but in a PT have it maxed... so many people with WAR/MNK searching in Qufim right now that are level 24/5 or 20/8... its sad really...

As an endgame player, you have access to everything the game has to offer. Besides HNMs and Dynamis, you can complete all the missions, quests, fight the Tu'lia gods, the AAs, raid the 30 God coin BCs, level caps for other BCs, any level of Ballista, any level of Garrison. You can also choose to help out others that you have made friends with over your play time too, or perhaps level another job.

There are good connections and bad connections on both sides of the pacific. The best connection in the US will be nowhere near 100ms behind the best connection in Japan. It's only stats anyway. You have to admit the Japanese HNM linkshells are a lot more dedicated. They stay awake 24/7 and if an HNM pops in US time, they will sleep it into JP time. What do NA players do? Bitch about Square having maintenance that moves the pops to JP time.
Dynamis is a crock of shit; it's about as enjoyable after the first few times as making love to a cactus. The only reasons people regularly go are: 1) To get Relic/AF2; and 2) They have nothing better to do.
I can't really talk much about this, and I don't want my post to seem like I'm just picking everything you say to bits. It seems like a lagfest to me, but the tension also seems enticing. As a RDM, I couldn't really give a toss about AF2 though. It isn't that much different from AF1.
And yes, I know there are a ton of other things to do, but most of those can be done at any level (which again has nothing to do with the guy's post; the entire thing is about high level content).
I guess I wasted my time typing then. High level content includes low level content - that is what the poster fails to admit. You level to get further in the game, but you also level so that trivial tasks, such as quest completion and money-making become a lot easier. The farming difference between a RDM50 and a RDM75 is rather severe, wouldn't you say?
Also I don't think it's really accurate to say that people are 'trying to beat the JPs.' It's just their competitive nature to want to be among the best; and competing with people with a 1.5 year head start is pretty frustrating. Just so happens that the current 'cream of the crop' are all JP (naturally), so it's a semi-logical next step to classify all of them as just plain JPs.
The 1.5 year head start argument is null and void in many ways. For starters, lv 75 and Dynamis were opened to both JP and NA at the same time (assuming we are talking about NA PC version). I could go on about the wealth of information available on the web (I just deleted two paragraphs of off-topic nonsense), but I won't. You know what I mean, though.
I don't think the problem here is a lack of content. It's just that NA players who have reached 75 have done so way ahead of their friends and contemporaries. On the other hand, JP players have levelled to 75 progressively, over the course of 2 years, so have a lot of players to do level 75 activities with.
What about those playing in HK, or taiwan or euro. They don't complain abotu this " I can't beat jp to NM thing."
Because all the HK and TW players are busy farming upper delkfutt's!
Sorry I had to say it. :spin:
As far as this goes:
I AM so sick of this I can't beat JP to NM's because of the time diff and connection speed. The time dif is soooooooo infinitesimal that It doesnt even factor into the equation.
I don't think the connection speed is the issue, it's the hacks and stuff that the NA players haven't learned about yet. You know the ones I'm talking about, the NM provoke bots.

And your examples are somewhat flawed, too. Tu'lia gods are for all intents and purposes HNMs. AA's? You only fight them once, unless you enjoy fighting them repeatedly for no reason. God coin BC's are just money making schemes, and how often do you get to do those? I have done four runs. Four: each of which took about 2 hours. I can't do any more, because I don't have enough seals (and it takes a pretty long time to get 30 God seals).

"It's only stats" is exactly my point. Everything else being equal (same PC, same job, same equipment, same distance from the NM when it spawns), a JP player is more likely to win the pull. Try doing a ping to a few US sites, and ping a few JP sites. For me the difference is on average 100ms. The dedication bit is undeniable though; the most hardcore JPs do play on a whole new level.

It is my opinion that Dynamis is shit. If you enjoy it; then that's a good thing. No matter how much anyone enjoys Dynamis though, you can only do it twice a week, which once again is a somewhat questionable decision.

Yes, but you don't have to be high level to have access to the low level content. As you progress in levels, more non-level-whoring stuff is opened up to you progressively; from the earlier missions, to crafting, to later missions, then Zilart, etc. The content that is opened up specifically for high levelers is rather anti-climatic, though not necessarily for the reasons the original guy said.

True, but you have to admit that they do have a head start. Stuff like crafting; hunting NMs; all the pioneers may have had the most risk, but also reaped the most reward.

In my opinion there is a lack of specific high-level content. Makes it even worse when there's not enough high-levels to do even that with.

Yeah, the players that shoot threw trying to reach lv. 75 first are missing the biggest thing to MMORPGs.
THE ADVENTURE!!
MMORPGs are not about getting to the end first but the means and how you reached the end. You going to gobble it down fast and give yourself one hell of a stomach ache, or savor it and enjoy it more to take in all the texture and beauty it provides. Playing MMORPGs are quite simple, the faster you force yourself to go the less fun you're going to have and eventually you'll get bored of it.
If you really want to enjoy MMORPGs you have to relax savor it, savor the adventure and give yourself time to reflect back on the friends you made in the adventure and the enemies. To reflect back on the good times you had hanging with friends you made either fishing in Rabao or in the thick of battle with people in Dynamis.
If people are leaving because they don't see anything else to do, then it's their own fault for it. I can't wait for the next time I go to adventure and who'll I'll meet next, or even who I'll come across nearing death and saving their butt. Even a friendly challenge from another player, or a request from a party leader in hunt of a specific monster/item to join them.
The game may only provide a finite amount of stuff you can do, but the adventures that can occur are near infinite if you just look around.

Dynamis is the next step of the story that I follow. It isnt shit to me... the AF items I do want. but I also want to COMPLETE the story of this game thats my goal.
It doesnt matter to me how many times I can do it.. i enjoy it alot and the fact that im helping up to 63 others helps evenm more.
Each game that comes out ..someone somewhere will have a head start. AO came out in NA before it came out in OSLO. .. where the game was made....germany took a year later.. but theres no beef there on the AO boards.....moot point on advantage..
I know many NA players who have better everything than i do.. I dont care I just want to play and do things with my friends and potential friends.. I go to japan fairly often.. once or twice a year and id like to meet some of those i ve played with.
Content is what you make of it. theres too much content at all levels to me..

ping makes so much difference.
I played FPS games at a competetive level, and with a 50ms advantage I could beat an opponent of equal skill 8/10 times.
the latency between uk servers for fps games differs by around 30-80. To japan at least 250-1000ms ping
The uk has a poor internet backbone in comparison to Japan.
I am on a 1 meg ADSL connection and from netstat and ping to the server I play on ( bismarck ) is around 300ms.
A japanese player on a fast connection will ping around 10-50ms.
Thats liks a 56kers vs a cable/adsl connection in a FPS game.
Sure the 56kers can win, but the cable/adsl will be killing them far far more.
The other issue he talks of are balls.
If you dont want to camp HNM you can always do the lesser gods that are forced pops, nobody is going to outpull you there.

XD, smartest thing I've heard all day.
I personally, belive that half of all the effort I put into a Job is to get the AF (depednin' on if u like it or not)
Other people also have compitition like on Ragnarok with the japanese, :/ some, but not all japanese look down on the NA players because they think that there a bunch of spamers which some can be at a time, so itz more of a "Rival" thing ya know.
Stuff like that will ruin the game for ya unless u jus slow down and try to finish/understand the overall storyline of the game. The storyline looked liek shit at first but after quest 3 for Sandoria it go pretty good.

About the whole leveling like mad then having nothing to do....
Someone I know level BLm to 74 and leveled WHM to 37 in under 7months and ended up quittting the game, they had 100k CP which they never spent, the only jobs above level 10 were WHM and BLM, and he obviously didnt take his time thru game. THATS the sort of shit that will bore you to death. And about people who have been playing forever and havent hit 75, I know someone who has been playing for a good year+++ and is levcel 55ish due to rl stuff (importer btw)

One of the things that I looked forward to the most for when I got to a higher level in this game was HNM hunting.
Now my LS isnt that big, nor do we have a great deal of people over lv60-70, so the only HNM that we've tried has been King Arthro out in Jugner. Sadly, we have never beaten the numerous Japanese parties that are out there voke mashing just like us (or Chi blast/rdm 2hr dia/stun etc.).
So regarding the ping difference between NA and JP:
Has any NA LS successfully provoked King arthro while there were competing Japanese parties?
We have almost given up completely. :(

All we need now is being able to level on Vanguard Mandragoras and Vanguard Crawlers in Dynamis West Sarutabaruta, and giving better AF drop rates, and everyone will be happy.
