I was wondering if I need to talk to any NPC before going and opening the coffer for this? I've already done af1 but if you could please answer this i'd really appreciate it thank you!

Yes you need to talk to Upper Jeuno Weapon shop NPC. He will be standing next to the Store's Entrance/Exit.

You need to start your AF gloves quest (as Gbz described), and you need to open the coffer as a bard. Same goes for the Castle Oztroja coffer. The Castle Zvahl Baileys coffer for the gloves, however, you can open as any job (you get a key item, not an actual piece of equipment).

Miscellaneous requirements:

You need to be level 40+ to start AF1.
You need to complete AF1, and be level 50+, to start AF2.
You need to complete AF1, and be level 50+, to start AF gloves.
You need to complete AF2 (and still be level 50+?) to start AF3.
You need to start AF gloves, to get the two coffer AFs.
You need to be BRD main to open the two coffer AFs, and to start AF1, AF2, AF3, and AF gloves.

You can be any job at any level for the rest of it (dunno about singing the requiem for the cutscene in AF2, I did that as BRD main). Including opening the coffer for AF gloves. Basically, the process is:

- At 40+, do AF1.
- At 50+, start AF2 and AF gloves.
- Get and open your coffers (for gloves and the two coffer AFs) at your convenience. Coffer AFs must be opened as BRD main, gloves don't have to be.
- Once you get your gloves coffer, go do the mucking around in Jeuno, then fight Dark Spark, at your convenience.
- Do AF2 at your convenience.
- Once you finish AF2, start AF3.
- Do AF3 at your convenience. Note that you have to have 0:00 (JP time) pass during one part of AF3, so be sure you get that part done before you get a group together for the boss.

Basically once you hit 50 and start AF2 and AF gloves, you can do everything "at your convenience" in whatever order you please, except AF3 comes after completing AF2.

Coffer locations are Castle Zvahl Baileys (AF gloves quest), Castle Oztroja (coffer AF), Crawlers' Nest (coffer AF).

To get the Roundlet, you do NOT have to talk with the NPC in Upper Jeuno. When I got my Roundlet, all I had completed at the time was AF 1 and 2.

You DO, however, need to talk with him before you go after your gloves.

I was under the impression that the two AF coffers were available after starting AF gloves quest. Perhaps they're available after starting AF2?

It's understandable confusion, because almost everyone starts both quests at once at level 50 - they should, anyway - unless they have AF gloves active for another job already. So not many people are gonna risk a coffer key testing. Except maybe a THF, since they don't have to key-hunt to get their coffers.
