Hi all,

I just turned 30/15 RDM/WHM earlier and I'm stuck on something. At 32 I can get dispel, but of course I don't just have that kind of money on hand. No, I'm not going to ask how to make money, but what I'd like to know is, is it important to get Dispel right at 32? Would I be gimping my party if I waited until I was 40 to do the BCNM40 that drops the scroll? It'll take me a lot of farming (read: weeks) to make that kind of money for the scroll. I try to keep up to date on my spells and my sub so I'm not dragging my party down (like most RDMs Ive seen below 30 lately :( ), and hope that this isn't going to set me back a few weeks of farming.

Thanks ^^

It's a bcnm30? Whoops, Ive been getting wrong info. Sweet.

Oh I get a lot of invites, too bad I dont come across decent parties often. I'm still stuck in Kazham for another level or two, where all the other RDM's are like 27-30RDM/10WAR. I was in a party last night with 2 other RDMs. Both meleed and I was the only one playing a mage...and the only one who knew what a magic burst was

with dispel, and certain comments in your search your chance of finding decent parties will go up, put your exp tnl, food, dispel, [magic] [burst] etc in there, some of my friends rant and rave about redmages w/o dispel and such. (also get your rank up it will also help, all things being equal i will invite the higher rank person before you)

I say do not xp beyond level 34 without Dispel, though you should get it as soon as you hit 32. From 34 on you will be xping mostly in Crawlers Nest, they have a defense boost called "caccoon" that makes everyone hit them for 0-5 damage, now most of them dont use it till theyre about to die, but if they use it right at the beggining of a battle ur pretty much screwed and have to fight the thing for 10 damn minutes, however if you have dispel it takes that defense boost away and you kill it quickly.

I really hated xping there without a RDM or Bard to take off cacoon but now that I'm RDM its always easy xp cause of dispel.

Also remember before level 41 ur easily replaced by a whitemage so having dispel really helps get invites.

Getting from 30-32 was hell for me also because people think of us as morons like the RDMs that sub war and think we cant heal or enfeeble or whatever, but after I got dispel I was immediately invited into Crawler's Nest even though people dont go there till 34, they just got me for dispel.

After 35 though, those RDM/WAR pieces of shit moron noobs dont get groups so its all good from then on for us :)

Get Dispel ASAP. It makes levelling up SOOOOO much easier. Beetle's Evasion boost, crawlers cocoon, crab's stoneskin, etc.... all are very annoying... Dispel makes levelling against these mobs quick and painless...

OK so I'm kinda hijacking my own thread but...

I'm not new to using the Search comments. I use them regularly to get across what I'm capable of. But there's one thing I have yet to figure out...

How do you add that circle to your text? I'm talking about what I see on most Japanese search comments, when they indicate they have something. For example:

{Food}: O

It's a full circle, not a zero or a capital 'O'. Is it an ALT+number combination? if so, what is it? When I hit 32 I want to be able to put {Dispel}: O (couple days of fishing and I have the spell 2 levels early

2 ways.

If you are on Japanese client, just type an 'o', then convert it to the circle.

If you are on US client, you can select the 'O Button' from the dictionary using tab, then manually remove the text part, leaving just the circle.

You must get Dispel ASAP. You can buy it in Rabao for about 63k with full fame in San'doria. If you decide to try and lvl without it for a while....you will be lfg for hours on end. Believe me....I learned the long, boring, needed something to do while I wait for hours, hard way. :P

Not strictly true. To be quite frank a lot of the less experienced players don't even KNOW what dispell does....quiet sad really.

I got invited to join a group. It had 2 additional red mages in...in crawlers nest....i was the only one at 34 with Dispell....one of them was 37....sigh

It IS important to have it. To do your job. If you get dispell early on your showing people your serious about doing your job properly and that RDM isn't just a passing fancy.

People in THAT scenario will invite you to groups because they (maybe) will know you are a good RDM.

Besides Dispell has saved my backside before when an easy mob with a ice spikes jumped me. When taken unawares ice spikes and other things like shell, protect can really ruin your day.

I didn't get it until 34. The reasons I chose that level were simple. One, I get stoneskin at 34, which made farming quick and painless. The other reason was that you hit crawlers nest at around 34-35, and that's when youll REALLY need it. Beetles have evasion boost, but it's not as important to remove as the crawler defense up or cocoon.

So, you can take the time to farm for it at 31 or 32, but you can get away with waiting a little later... especially with all the slack RDM out there that still dont have it at 50... its so sad.

Your a bad RDM if you dont have Dispell at 32, I was a bad RDM, I got yelled at by a JP and didnt level untill I got it.

I don't consider myself a bad RDM. I think I'm a pretty good one, in fact, not the best of course, but I do my job (at least in the sense I use equipment to cover my racial shortcomings and keep somewhat up to date on my spells ((ok so I'm missing a few Bar- spells)). I'll admit, I used convert for the first time in battle and scared the hell out of myself and my party, but we all survived

I partied last night with a level 40/20 RDM/WHM who, not only didn't have Dispel ( ), but didnt wear any MP or INT gear (was a mithra). Just had a sword, En-spelled it, and went to town on the crawlers. Now I know Elvaan have the lowest INT and second Lowest MP, or something Like that, but I was beating this other RDM/WHM by a good 60mp, and I cant even afford the best gear.

"Your a bad RDM if you dont have Dispell at 32, I was a bad RDM, I got yelled at by a JP and didnt level untill I got it."

That's what we need more of, trans-language verbal bitch-slapping

Lol, I was like holy crap when the JP yelled at me. I didnt even realized RDMs got the spell at 32 >< I was thinking it was 33 for some reason. It only took me a day to farm the 70k I needed to purchase it. (dont say I should have went to Rabeo, I didnt even know wtf Rabeo was at this time, this was 2/3 weeks after NA release).

I went to Crawlers' Nest at 32. So of course I had to have Dispel right away.

It may depend on patterns of exp party location in your server - if you can find parties in Garlaige (fighting bats with no dispellable abilities) till 35, then you don't need Dispel till 35.

But if you expect to be fighting anything with a dispellable ability - crawlers, beetles, crabs, most spellcasting beastmen, scorpions, probably other things I can't think of - you should have it.
