Lucky Occurrances

Ever have a really lucky experience you'd like to share? Post it here...this is mine.


I was walking through West Ronfuare and I make it a habit to walk by H-10 just in case Jaggedy-Earred-Jack spawns. When I get there it's claimed. He kills the person...and he delevels. Then another person claims him as I'm fumbling around with my macro to get it....d'oh! Well, Jack ends up kicking his ass too and he delevels too. At this point, I'm the only person around so I walk up to Jack, who only has a sliver of life left, and whack him with my scythe.

Behold...I get a rabbit charm to drop! This has been so far my most lucky experience in the game. Now I'm just trying to sell it off because I don't really have a need for it...but there's 2 others on the AH so I guess I'll have to wait, or just use it for myself.

Does anyone have a similar experience?

Last Friday I got a friend to port me to Yhoator Jungle so I could log off at the Tonberry Thf NM (Sozu Rogberry) spot for the next day because it'd been camped all day by the same thf and I didn't feel like the competition at that time of night.

When I got there the thf that had been there for 7+ hours wasn't and the NM was already spawned (very rare). So I proceded to kick it's ass...didn't take any dmg like normal until it was at 10% hp and I was busy typing away in /l because the damn thing never drops anyway so I missed the Throat Stab message :p and proceded to finish Sozu off from 10% hp with me on 62 hp or so :D and couldn't believe my eyes when it dropped my knife!

This hasn't happened to me, but to a linkshell friend of mine. Anyway, out of nowhere, some JP player gave him 200k for no known reason. My friend was in the 20s when he got it.

I was lvling in kuftal with my real life friend, and we get a coffer key drop. He lots a 998 and he`s thinking he`s got this one in the bag. So we go on to fight the next monster and midbattle he realized someone else got the key. We looked back in the log and lo and behold, someone else lotted a 999 on the SAME item. We were like :eek:

That is the only time I have ever seen a 999 lot.

Three Thunder Spirit Pacts on consecutive BCNM20s. This was right after they were added and we landed 200K for each, sold that very night. That was a good 20 min of work.

Well the luckiest thing that has happened to me would probably be the Vlakurm Emperor..

I was camping it for the first time.. had been tehre for about 3 hours and no spawn.. so I was getting kind of jumpy at every damselfly.. I saw a 19 Bard log in.. and shortly after she logs in the em peror spawned practically right on top of her.. She uses Foe Lullaby and grabs it before I could get in range :\.. Obviously she cant take it.. so she parades it around the dunes using Foe Lullaby.. there were about 10 of us following the emperor.. I put /follow on it and spammed provoke as fast as I could..

When she ended up zoning, i managed to grab the emperor.. and I got the haipin too, on my first kill :)..

Now lizzy on the other hand.. that took 26 kills.. >_<

I never get any luck, but I know people who always luck out at the AH, and bid next to nothing for expensive items AND GET THEM. One saturday morning, a BRD in my LS was at San d'oria AH and bid 1000 gil on a travelers mantle, and didn't he get it... There were like 20 up for sale, so he said that's why he bid that low. Wish I could get breaks like that.

I still cant believe the price of travelers mantle. Spook spawns twice an hour, sometimes 3 times, and it's (not so rare) drop is 25k... :rolleyes:

I'd second Valkurm Emperor. Spawned on my level 18 group busy leveling there and it did manage to kill 2 of us, but some nice JPs helped us out and we killed it and he dropped the hairpin. Missed the roll on the item, but still, with the way that sucker is camped. Yeehaw!

I've never had a "lucky occurance", more like... a lucky week. I was mining in Ifrits as usual one day and randomly decided to start saving up for Vermillion Cloak, eventhough is sucks balls for BLM compared to AF.

Anyways, to make a long story short... 5 days, 14 Adaman ores, and 2 Orichalcum ores later I was the proud new owner of Vermillion Cloak.

I got a fastwater fishing rod from a Goblin Fisher.
It ain't much but that's what gave me my start as a fisher.

That rod lasted me 2 weeks and brought me in over 16k gil from fishing moat carps,
it just broke yesterday though lol

Mee Deggi the Punisher 4/6 and getting 3 drops in a row ^^;; pretty lucky I might say because some people are 0/26 or so >.>;;. Also have 2/3 Leaping Lizzy <.<.
Also my lucky occasions not related to money, Sea Horror popped and aggroed me :dead: normally can take it but in the middle of battle R0:dead: :dead: :dead: docked in Mhuara with like 100 HP.

Friend of mine in my LS is in her first week of play, around level 8 and doesn't even know what a NM is... runs into Lizzy with almost no health left (on Lizzy that is). Friend hits Lizzy, Lizzy goes down, boots drop...

This one just may top em' all.

I was wandering around in Maze of Shakrami looking for a treasure chest playing a lev 45 or so red mage. (I was doing my RSE quest.) While I was wandering around (completely lost), I run into the thing called Argus. I check it, and, as expected, it says "Impossible to Guage." At this point I notice 2 other anon japanese players... afk apparantly. So I procede to buff myself up.... protect, shell, blink, stoneskin... the works. Line myself up for sneak attack, and about 5 minutes later, I finish defeat him. He drops 3 things. A vial of mercury, a hecteyes, and a peacock charm. Me, being the "newbie" at the time, thought I was gonna get more money for the mercury and hecteyes... (I didn't think I could sell the peacock charm because is was "rare") Total newb!

So I procede to find my treasure chest, with the help of a nice japanese player. I walk back to jeuno and head straight to the auction house. It turns out the mercury and hecteyes are worth crap, so I was kinda disappointed. Then I check neck armor for the peacock charm. And there it is at the top of the list! "Let's see, let's just check the price of this nifty little item....... Oh ..... my..... god.

The next day I was 4 million gil richer.

The funniest thing is that if you try to camp Argus now, there's at least 5-10 people and he's claimed immediately when he spawns. I spent at least 60 seconds buffing up to kill him..... hahahaha

Got Monster signa...on 4th kill :( , Got Astral Ring on First Coffer though, Just after a Higher lvl thief from my LS gave up on camping the coffer. Lucky :)

This was my 6th BCNM40 run with a SMN/WHM, WHM/BLM (me), BLM/WHM, SAM/WAR, PLD/WAR, and BRD/WHM making up the group.

Originally the BLM was meant to be our 3rd damage dealer taking the place of a DRK or RNG. But midway thru the fight the BRD ends up dead because I (since i was the dedicated BRD healer) was resting up MP since the parties I've done runs with almost never use 2hrs so it becomes an endurance fight. Well, the infamous NA lag made my response just slow enough so that the now awake mandragoras killed the BRD. The BLM quickly takes the place of the BRD (since I was low on MP and couldn't afford to raise the BRD) using sleepga to keep the mandragoras at bay.

We manage to finish off the mandies and as the last one was approaching its final breath I started to run toward the chest spawn point throwing a Fire or two back at the last mandy. It dies and I immediately open the chest to find out we had literally one second left on the timer. I so wish it kept track of record length... 29 mins 59 seconds :sweat:

Helping someone with AF and running into a dead RDM and some NM with 5% HP left.. Dropped 100k Pearl.

Amemet poping every hour for 8 hours giving me 3mil total.

Well I had one with Valkrum Emperor, spawned right when I logged in, in a crowd of 8 people. Used my Eagle Eye Shot macro I made up the night before to get him, worked like a charm. First attempt and he dropped the Hairpin I've been wanting for so long.

The other would have to be the first time I saw Leaping Lizzy at the time not knowing what an NM was (I was confused on why that one lizard took so much longer to kill) and dropped the Leaping Boots. Jaggedy-Eared Jack though is a totally different story. To put it simply it's now at 0/40 for drops, that damn rabbit doesn't want to drop anything for me.

Then there was one time where the puller accidentally pulled 3 monsters, first one were fighting ok then when the other two caught up everyone was busy getting control of hate on the other two and the first was quite a bit over half life. Used 2hr and that sucker was gone, amazing thing is we actually survived all 3 though the Tank and I finished the fight with 1HP!!!

Hmm, haven't been lucky on NM's before, managed to camp and kill Argus once, but no drop /cry. But last night while mining ifrit's Cauldron I got 2 adaman ore's from 1 mining point. I got the first /cheer, point was still active hit it again got another. My jaw dropped :p

I have had no luck at all really.
My NM drop rate is really terrible.

Holy! This is eactly like mine! Except it was Bigmouth Billy, and he killed one person,and he also only had a sliver of health left too, so I snatched him.......I don't know how this is lucky, but he didn't give me anything.......

I had a pretty lucky occurance while I was riding the Selbina ship.

I enter the ship and go afk for a few minutes. When I come back, I see an emote "xxx looks at the Sea Horror and panics." This would be my first encounter with this NM. I wanted to go see it, but I didn't want to die too.

A couple minutes pass and I'm still in the lower part of the ship. Nothing's happened so far so I'm thinking this guy was just joking around. The next thing on the chat log is "The Sea Horror hits xxx for 4XX damage. xxx was defeated by the Sea Horror." Now I really don't want to go outside.

Three high lvls then begin buffing themselves. After a minute or so, a whm, brd and war take on the NM. I figure it's safe now, so I go outside to watch the battle.

The Sea Horror is defeated with ease. A lvl 14 war died because he got too close to the battle and was killed by its aoe. He gets a raise from the high lvl whm, then the trio starts fishing. A minute later, another Sea Horror spawns! And it is right on top of me. Now, I'm thinking that I'm dead. I stand still and wait for it to rape me. I then see the war get up and start running. The Sea Horror aggros him instead of me! After he dies, the whm casts holy on it and we dock in Mhaura.

So my lucky occurance happened at the cost of this war. :biggrin:
