View Full Version : What should I have done?

I was leveling in the Boyahda Tree with a party. The THF pulled Aquarius, and it prompty killed everyone but me (I was smart enough not to touch Aquarius). After we got raised, a BST was attacking Aquarius. I jokingly said (and I did say, just kidding, I'll know not to mention it at all next time) take Aquarius when it gets low on health, and take revenge. The PLD, BLM, and THF took this seriously, and they started mapping out a plan. At first I thought they were just kidding, then when they kept going on about it, I knew they weren't kidding. I told the BST and a friend who was in the area (who was planning on taking Aquarius if the BST died) what they were planning. My friend didn't know what I should do, and the BST wasn't responding. When the BST went to change pets, the PLD provoked it and used Spirits Within, killing it. I left the party and sent a tell to the BST appologizing for the party. Then he tells me to give him 50k or he was going to shout my name in Jeuno. Now I was getting pissed. I had tried to tell him what was going on, trying to stop the party, and he is attempting to blackmail me? Lucky my friend told his LS what happened, and it got around to all the major Linkshells. I ended up working it out with the BST, so that's all good.
My question, as the title said, what should I have done?

Missed where you said just kidding :dead:
From what I saw in rereading that, looks like everything you did was OK, even the part where you said to take it. It's beyond me why they would take that idea seriously, unless they were extremely bitter.

Not saying I would have stolen the mob as well, but maybe the BST should think about switching classes next time they try to fight NMs. We all know that there are people in the game that will take advantage of this, even if it ruins their reputation, so why risk it? It is well within the rules of the game as set forth by SE, after all, they are the ones that let BSTs lose claim when their pet dies.
EDIT: BTW, if the guy did shout your name in Jeuno, he would probably look like more of a scammer than you.

uhm, its known that a bst has the NM claimed even when it goes yellow. Get farther in the game before you say that the bst 'should think about switching classes next time they try to fight NMs'

Oh just dismiss everything I say because I am not "far in the game." What stops somebody from randomly coming by when the mob is yellow and claiming it without ever knowing the BST was fighting it? Also, just because it is "known" it the game by the ethical players doesn't mean somebody will come by and totally screw you. I've played this game long enough to know there are certain rules people go by to keep the game ethical, but the fact is there are always players that take advantage and don't follow these player set rules. I think about this before fighting NMs, that's all I am saying. I won't waste my time fighting an NM as a BST because I know somebody might come by and steal it and there's nothing within the ACTUAL rules of the game to stop it.

That asshole sounds like North.
I toyed with his mind much, for being the annoying loser he is and I winded up on his blist D:.
So? He is going to /shout your name in Jueno. You should just curse him out and make him feel like utter crap. I cant believe your PT would do anything like that anyway. Well, just blmae it on them.

What should you have done? Told the Bst to lv Rdm so he can really solo stuff.
Why isnt Miles on Fairy?
I bet you, he'd totally kick that BSTs ass an give us all candy :spin:

I probably would have done the same thing as you. Joking about stealing an NM is one thing, actually doing it is another.
Whenever anyone is able to claim an NM, I wait until they beat it or they die trying, if they die it's fair game, otherwise it's theirs (even if it flashes yellow). I'm surprised that BST didn't start training mobs on you, many will do that on people who steal NM's. It's a bug in the game, but still, have respect. Kill stealing is unacceptable - it's the same as training mobs - you CAN do it, but that doesn't mean it's acceptable behaviour (although it would be tempting in revenge for a kill-steal...).

If you got the Damascene cloth you should have just given him 50k gil for getting the NM's health down, it goes for like 600k. That would've seemed fair (´_`)。But since you quit the party you didn't (>_<) So in any case it doesn't really matter, yes, there are manners involved, but a white name means anyone can claim it, which means that it was free game according to the User Agreement. If he shouts your name in Jeuno then that's harassment and you can get him in trouble with the GM's. Either way, you win....

So, by your logic, provoke spamming an HNM that is claimed just in case it flashes yellow(which may happen if someone disengages) is ok?

No, I didn't say I thought it was okay. Quit trying to flame me. I was saying some people think it's okay and try to take advantage of it. If that much money is riding on it, why not try and minimize the possibility of having that happen?

i'm symphathetic for bsts in this situation...
ppl are jelous, and greedy, they see a bst solo'ing a nm they can't and try to trick**** em
i watched a bst solo amement today while lvling in Kuftal, our party joked about stealing it when it was low on health but decided not to, in fact i cheered the bst on when he defeated the nm
bottom line is your party was full of assholes, you did the right thing, but nothing to do about it now...

The thing is, it's common knowledge that BST is able to solo things that most other classes aren't able to. So, you're not dealing with something that just anyone is able to do. It's a common courtesy that if the BST is able to tag the mob, that the BST is free to fight the mob until he/she either dies or just gives up. Now, during these times when the BST is engaging/disengaging and charming everything in the area, the mob's name flashes yellow. So while it IS possible for someone to take it, this is generally frowned upon. The community as a whole does not like this. At higher levels, the population does thin out, and people will remember names. So, having all the gil in the world from jacking these NM/HNM won't mean anything when you won't get any party invites. And yes, while technically it is fair game, most people will view it as 'stolen'. As long as S-E keeps it this way, there is nothing you can do about it. But people who do stuff like this will have it come around and bite them in the ass.
Tidane, I'm not saying that you stole the mob. I understand what you were saying completely and that it was your former party and not you. ^^

I know North. He's a douchebag. We met at NA release when we were leveling our first jobs. Then we fucked around a bit once we hit 30 and unlocked some advanced jobs. Couple months later he's in Yhoator Jungle, exping, as am I. I was looking for a camp and a gob happened to aggro me (doh), so I run past his party, /wave to him, and keep running to the zone. As I'm running he catches up to me and I /tell him "voke it off me please?" as I was about to die. He replies "GM is on his way for your gob trains." I was like OMG, saying dude we're friends. He totally didn't remember me and insisted that I was training gobs on people.
Few hours later he sends me a /tell asking if I was really telling the truth, and I try to refresh his memory. I succeed and tell him to fuck off and blacklist him. He never /waves to me anymore whenever I see him around. -_-
North needs a soul. I think Im going to make a new content ID just for freaking harrassing him :)

omg seirously you are all a bunch of babies. now i cna see why no one wanted pk for ff11. sorry but if an NM is yellow, ANYONE CAN CLAIM IT. just cuz a bst attacks it first doesnt mean its his monsters until it dies. that is ridiculous. bst can solo nms other people cant so they already have an advantage but it comes at a risk of the monster getting stolen. seems fair to me. just hte other day a rdm and blm were fihgting aquarius. when they were running from it and casting spells it disengaged them and a ranger stole it. the 2 mages congradualted him and killing it etc. sorry its fair game, they knew it, the ranger knew it, and a bst should know it.

example of a greed **** that can't tolerate a bst solo'ing a nm

thats why i normally toss a dia on an NM before i go looking for a new monster to charm.. it will stay claimed, yea i might take a hit or 2, but i can heal up from it pretty easy

You can't get banned for harassment... Last time I tried to report someone the GM said "We can not do anything, just spread bad rumors about the person"
Why would a GM even give that kind of advice?
This all comes down to flaw in game design. There should be a 5 second delay where the mob cannot be claimed. That way people will stop using it as an exploit and the mob turning "yellow" can still serve it's purpose. What drives me cuts is that the mob is still attacking you even if you disengage, so why the hell do you lose claim if it's beating the tar out of you? Poor, poor game mechanics. Blame square... don't blame the people who exploit it. If their design people were smart enough to redesign the claim system, there would be no need to exploit.
Why is it that a monster turns yellow anyway? Is it to avoid things like BLM resting in between soloing worms? I don't think I fully understand what purpose it serves. Can anyone explain?

Really? I thought you could get banned for harassment. I dunno why a GM would give that advice. O_o
