Gear 33-AF question

Well I just recently got level 33 and tonight I got all four peices of RSE. Out of curiosity sake I went searching through the AH and Allakhazam to see what the next peices of armor I would like to get are. After looking around I found very little that I thought would be good.

So my question is, am I missing something? What do you guys use? And what gear should I be looking for.

Heres my list of what I think I should be using

+mp Hairpin's
+mp Earrings
+ mnd or int rings
Holy Phial
RSE Body, Gloves, Slacks, Boots
Merc Captains Belt
White or Black cape

You can wear your RSE to AF no problem, though I dislike the hume RSE bodypiece. I don't completely remember but at 40 I had some +10mp robe, forgot the name, then I think Raptor Jerkin late 40s, then Tactician Magician's Coat (Windy CP, Windy rank 8 and thrilled that all CP items suck unless I'm a MNK or RNG), then Gaia Doublet (I think lv54), then Shaman's Cloak (NM drop), then AF body.

RSE gloves, boots, and pants are all great though, no reason to drop them, and you'll want to keep the boots for the +3 INT even after AF (can use macros to swap in for INT based spells).

Of the armors I mentioned the Raptor Jerkin and Gaia Doublet should be ridiculously cheap (less than 5k) and have very good defense, which is why I dropped +10mp robe/Tactician's Coat for them (then sold those coats for profits, hehe) when I could. Lots of people waste 60k+ on the RK Aceton at 55 but this is a mistake IMO. Gaia Doublet is +4 VIT which is far better than the +5 evasion RK Aceton offers. Yeah it looks cool but you're paying a lot just to look cool for at most 3 levels.

The rest of what you mentioned is pretty much dead on, except you might trade Merc belt for RK belt at 50, and get a Red Cape at whatever level it's at, don't remember. I have Red Cape +1 and no plans to ditch it, um, ever, unless I get to Rainbow Cape level which is what, 72? And that's a ways off. Holy Phial will last you until you swap it for Promise Badge at 48 or Enfeebling Torque at 65, fine to wait for either.

That's exactly the point. Looking cool is priority, no point having super stats if it means looking like a clown :thumbsup:

Besides, wearing the Aketon makes you kinda look like an RDM ... like a ghetto Warlock Tabard :zzz:

I'm going to sneak a related question in here if its ok. It has to do with weapons rather than armor 47-55.

Ok, at 47 I bought a Knights Sword for the 31 DMG. It was only 13k, so a reasonable price. I also bought a Rose Wand +1 at 48 for 10k. Another good buy. People are telling me I should be using a Crimson Blade (lvl 49 28 DMG, 233 DLY, +10MP, +5INT, cost ~25k) until level 55, but my question is why?

For parties I have my Rose Wand which adds +6 INT, +6 MND, and for farming/soloing I have the Knights Sword which has more DPS than Crimson Blade. The +5 INT isn't really going to help me farming unless I plan on unleashing some heavy nukes.

Should I get Crimson Blade just because it's the ~best~ sword until Royal Guard's Fleuret, or stick with Knights Sword?

PS. This is rare, but I got a critical hit for 50 DMG against a Rumble Crawler with Knights Sword, and 9 en-damage... I think that's the most I ever hit against an IT as a RDM.

I agree with you that Crimson Blade is worthless.

The only use I see for it is for an extra 10mp when converting.

There's no reason to get a Crimson Blade if you swap to a wand for casting anyway, it's +5 INT but an HQ wand at that level is either +5 or +6 INT, so no big deal. I did carry one, but just for a couple levels, I think I went from Fencing Degen to Crimson Blade to Temple Army Knight Sword (gotta lot that oversized prop sword graphic) to RG fleuret. I'll get a Goldsword when I start caring about it again, and that will likely last until I can convince enough people that passing an Enhancing Sword to me is a great idea, or forever, whichever comes first.

And speaking of clowns Deodorant, that's exactly what some people said the following getup looked like. Bastards. :(

As meleeing really isnt that important for RDMs and as you hit 50's you will start fighting against monsters with nastier and nastier AoEs I personally found it okay to stick with Fencing Degen / Whatever the Best INT+MND+ wand is at the time. I personally didnt really melee as a RDM till I was past 70 when I started raising my weaponskills just so I could get the Quest WS... Friggen Dagger of Trials BREAK NOW --; think I have like 100 points left on it =x.

Ohh and Looking cool is what this game is about in town~ I personally have 2 sets of gear, XP group Gear and Town Gear~

Well, I don't really do much meleeing, I was just referring to farming or soloing. In parties I am in back casting, so the Rose Wand +1 is all I need.

So if Rose Wand +1 (+6INT, +6MND) is for parties, and Knights Sword (DMG 31, DLY 240) is for solo/farming, why the heck do I need a Crimson Blade? I think I'll just wait for Royal Guard's Fleuret.
