Farming Cactus Stems

Anyone know where I can do this? Or what I can do without eating 1000 needles in the process?

There's a non-repeatable high-fame quest in Bastok ("Wish Upon A Star" is the name I think?) which rewards you with 4 cactus stems upon completion.

Other than that... well... play a BST and let some poor hapless monster eat the 1000 needles instead?

My LS mate charms Sabotenders out in E Altepa and uses the 1,000 needles on OTHER Sabotenders ... pretty hilarious if you ask me ;p

Unfortunately, he couldn't charm the Lesser Manticores X_x

If you want to farm sabotender-like monsters for the cactus stems, go in a party consisting of people that make the sabos con EP - I wouldn't want to risk it when it still cons VT even ...

sabotenders aren't all that bad. i was killing VT and IT spelunking sabotenders recently for the star necklace quest drop. their 1000 needles attack did 250 to each of us and we killed them relatively quickly even with only 4 people.

1000 Needles does 1000 damage distributed among all opposing players/pets evenly. 1000 / 4 players = 250 damage.

Moral of the story: Don't solo sabotenders.

The 1000 needles does damage to anyone within the AOE. I know this because I was trying to ghetto warp and someone was fighting a Cactaur near the zone. It did 1000 needles and there were 3 people around. I got hit for 334 damage. All you really need is someone who can pound on the cactaur, and then another who can heal. If you're a PLD, just keep your hp above 1000 while fighting them :D

I farmed sabotenders solo for an hour, killed about 15 or so and only got 2 distilled waters=/

Since im a lvl 60 dragoon I have a helpful little wyvern sharing the damage with me so 1000 needles does only 500 damage on me. with ~1200 HP I can survive 2 1000 needles (actually 3 with super jump timed right). They dont hit very hard, like 20-30 on me. Too weak and some Easy Prey.

But since drop rate seem low they isnt really worth farming.

Cant remember price of stacks, but I'm thinking 120-125k

Has anyone subbed THF and farmed them???? maybe the drop rate goes up with tresure hunter
