What is the best possible leveling party group? I'm trying to figure out the best combination for a party to level with. My Idea is a party with of (PLD, SAM, DRK, WHM, BRD/WHM, NIN). What do you think? This is my idea of the best party, but I would like to hear what others think is the best combo.

I think you have too many tanks. Replace the NIN or the PLD with an RDM or BLM.

My current set party, which has been raking in the XP since the early 40s, is PLD/WAR, WAR/MNK, DRK/WAR, BLM/WHM, BRD/WHM, RDM/WHM.

This is just about my ideal party until 66, at which point I'd prefer to replace the WAR with MNK.

this is our configuration: mnk/thf, mnk/war, brd/whm, rdm/whm, nin/war and last spot for blm, whm, smn, rdm in order of preference.

our recordchains are chain4: 283exp, chain5: 288exp, chain6: 178exp.
the chain6s we've gotten so far are only on skeletons, which we rape so fast it isn't even funny.

this setup is optimal for bone leveling, rng is optimal for flying creatures etc.. leveling spot depends on your setup.
the backbone of any extremely successful leveling pt (in my opinion) would be nin, brd and rdm.. throw in damage-dealers depending on where you plan to level.

I normally try for something along these lines.

1) WHM/BLM (me)
2) BLM/WHM
3) BRD/WHM or SMN/WHM (assuming they have avatars)
4) NIN/SAM or PLD/NIN
5) DRG/sensible or SAM/NIN
6) THF/sensible or MNK/sensible

As their truely is no "perfect" party it also depends on what you are fighting and the weapons these classes are using at the time.

As Dux said, there is no "perfect party".

You could always get decent amount of experience if you have the following party members (of course, with an average player skill):

[A Tanker (PLD, NIN etc)]
[An Attacker (THF, WAR, DRK, DRG, RNG, MNK etc)]
[A Sub Tanker (WAR, NIN, SAM etc) or Skill Chain Executor (WAR, SAM etc) (WAR etc.)]
[A Nuker (+ Magic boost +Sub healer for emergency condition) (BLM SMN etc)]
[A Healer]
[A Helaer or Battle supporter (BRD, RDM etc)]

However, from my current experience, if you have less than 2 mages in your party, you could try this setting:

NIN/WAR
NIN/WAR
[Any Frontliner]
[Any Frontliner or Mage]
[NIN/WAR or Any Frontliner or Mage or Mage supporting job]
[Mage]

* Note that almost no one got hurt during most fights at Lv24 so it may not be efficient after certain level.

Hope the information helps. :p

I had a somewhat interesting party setup the other night... If we didn't have to deal with a few AFKs here and there... and if we find a better camp (Kuftal hunting Raptors... Valley was taken), I'd like to see the exp/hr.

It was 60s PLD RNG THF THF RDM SMN/WHM. We missed no chain 5s unless someone had some "emergency AFK."

It also kept my job somewhat more interesting... tricking Viper Bite on the RNG doing Sidewinder (with crazy +40 ranged Acc arrow)... plus Dancing Edge on me made it quite interesting!

A similar PT hit a few chain 5s 300xp in Terrigan, but that was @ 58 or so when the exp is still good.

I've found that there really isn't any cookie cutter way to make a "good group." There are guidelines you should follow, but in the end, it comes down to communication, player skill, and in some cases, the gear that you have.

I think if you want the fastest exp possible (I know people are going to say brd), no not bard, you need a ninja. A ninja reduces down time by not needing to rest, not needing to be healed and doing more damage than a pld. My ideal PT would have a ninja, a thief to help the ninja keep hate. A black mage (solid dmg, backup heals). Probably a sam to help chain with viper bite and to help the blm burst more. Red mage(healer/debuffer/refresher/dispeller). The 6th member is very debatable to me. You could add a bard, but you have dispell and mp regen recovered and I don't think the PT is mage heavy enough to benefit as much from the mp regen. Obviously attack and accuracy will help. Ranger is a viable option, so is Dark Knight, Monk, second Black Mage. And Dragoon, well I just feel sorry for Dragoons.

So party would be :

Nin/War
Thf/Nin
Sam/War
Rdm/Blm
Blm/Whm
Blm/Whm or Rng/Nin or Drk/War or Monk/War

Sub job combinations not set in stone, obviously there is other viable options.

I say Ninja is the most important thing for fast exp because I've gotten 6-8k an hour in a few PT's with ninjas. Have never had this with pld, even with all the brds in the world.

But now im in a set PT since 72 anyhow my SET pt is a typical group

PLD/WAR RNG/WAR SAM/RNG (yes SAM/RNG it owns...) BLM/WHM WHM/BLM and me~ RDM/WHM~

it actaully depends on the mobs u're gonna level, some mobs require a whm for stona, for example.

In general I would prefer a pt of nin, rng, thf, blm, brd, rdm. Prime reason for having the nin is actually the rng will be able to turn the mob easily thus the thf can do fuidama on thf when doing renkei, which basically will fix the mob onto the nin for the rest of the fight. The 3 mages choice is obviously enough that Im not gonna explain further ;)

P.S. Not that a pld is not good in this setup, it's still very good but it will require a good pld who actually cares to control the hate so that the rng can turn the mob with his ws.

i personally think that you learn by doing and that you need to figure out for yourself on what you need to do to make the best party for the current situation

3 jobs who just makes the pt a little better

Ninja tank: Nonstop pulling unless someone screws up.
Ranger: Unmatched damage.
Bard: Double Ballad and Minuet+Madrigal is just too good.

I'd say the *best* set (not for bones) would be:

NIN/WAR
THF/NIN
RNG/NIN
BLM/WHM
BRD/WHM
RDM/WHM
