Hi, sorry if i'm posting in the wrong section and please try to be a bit nice about this because I am a newbie at this sort of thing.

I was wondering what is the difference between broadband, cable, and DSL? I read a little about it over in www.google.com, from the webpages they gave but I'm still a bit confused. Maybe someone can clear a few things up for me? It would be greatly appreciated. Yes, I've been playing on a 56k ^^

When I read broadband it sound like it was Cable or DSL, it's always on, but then what is the difference between broadband, cable, and DSL?

What is this I read that if your farther from your telephone company then a DSL connection will not be so good?

DSL is not a stable connection and cable is? Does that mean if it rains then my connection will....well be laggy?

Thanks for any clear ups and I'm sorry if this question seem offensive to you for some reason ; ; Please try to answer them or direct me to a link that will if not it's okay. Thanks again for any help and sorry if I posted it in the wrong section

DSL, Cable, 56k, 28.8k, T1, ISDN, etc, etc are all modems. I seperate my modems into 2 categories: narrowband (14.4k, 28.8k, 56k, etc) and broadband (cable, dsl, etc). The modems themselves go different speeds. For the narrowband modems, the maximum download rate possible is generally in the name of the modem. i.e. on a 56k, the maximum download rate possible is 5.6kb/s. On 28.8k, it's 2.88kb/s. For broadband, I'm not exactly sure about the maximum, but cable is faster than DSL (not by a whole lot). Beyond cable lies the land of T1, DS3, and OCx, none of which you should be worried about because chances are you can't afford any of them. To answer your question, no, DSL does not "lag if it rains." Your other question - when talking about broadband, most people refer to DSL and cable as such.

Ah, thanks for the information. I appreicate it.

So there is bascially no difference in DSL and cable besides the connection type?
