Anyways, I've been making 100-300k a day on average with my 94 alchemy. I just woke up with 1 million in delivery box. So I spend 800k and about 800k in saved up materials and I do 24 synths, cost 850k, no HQ's, I'm 15 levels above trivial. I average about 1-2 HQ's every 12 synths normally. I did this on optimal days. Then I use the none HQ's and what I have left over on a different synth. 1 HQ in 40 synths. I sell none HQ's to vendor and HQ sells for 400k. I just lost 800k to 1 million gil in one day, such bad luck!

That should be a story every person who thinks crafting is the way to make phat lewt should hear before they start building their craft.

That really sucks Hatey. :(

:comfort:

Just think ahead to what you're going to do tomorrow. You'll earn it all back, in time.

Yeah, should be no sweat, but I'm at the start of my high end item cash cow career so it hurts more than it would like a month down the road, oh well. Crafting make loads of money, is probably the most profitable thing in the game. Factoring in that HNM profits are normally divided. Although I wouldn't know the amount of profit per day for a small HNM LS so I'm not the best judge.

How much time and how much money did it take to reach lvl 94 alchemy hatey?

To much, it isnt worth it really. Unless you enjoy crafting.

How much is too much?

My alchemy isn't as high as Hatey's, but I'd easily say I've gained money from both raising alchemy (not always on recipes for gaining skill, but making recipes I can already make). I also have been taking my time with it, crafting small batches and running around to sell them in different auction houses. This drastically slows the process, but you'll get more return from your craft.

I still have LOADS of venom bolt heads that I honestly haven't made a good effort to sell. I've considred raising woodworking on an alt and have him make them into bolts, but that only creates more stacks to sell >_< (though of a more highly prized item). Not sure what I'm going to do with 'em yet.

I wish I had a high level craft skill. ; ; I'm too cheap to invest that much into a craft, though. ^^;

What are you making that gives you that much money? o.o

For alchemy? A wide variety of things. I have my main and an alt, and if I make a variety of things (ingredients to other alchemy recipes, medicine, magical weapons) I find I can almost always fill up the 14 AH slots and sell them all for profit.

I was exploring the possibilit of relatively high payout from leather crafting (sheep leather and sheep wool) earlier today. On carbuncle those two items go for almost 300% of what their components cost, and you need a leather crafting of less than 10 to make them both.

Other than BCNM (which are limited by your beastmen seals) I still think camping NM pays better than crafting, but crafters spend alot less time actually doing their chosen craft than a camper spends waiting for a NM to pop (and getting it to drop).

Crafting isn't always a sure thing for profit either. I've had the market for multiple alchemy items tank, and their components were sent back to me even after I lowered their prices once or twice. If your stuff sells? $$profit$$ If it just sits there, nothing.

2-4+ million to get where I am, and that's loss. I could have done it cheaper but I PL'd it as much as I could, although I regret some of my PLing. Uh, I probably havn't gained a level in 2 months, just farmed/crafted to get where I am. And I do enjoy crafting. I'm not saying the items I make for profit. And yes multiple alchemy markets have crashed. Silent Oil, Wax, and Black Ink to name a few.

Where have you got all money for your craft? ^^
I can make at most 10-20k/hour from farming ><

I use fishing, farming with a lower level job, a bit of playing the intercity job market (since I travel all the time to get the ingredients anyway), and selling things that are already below my skill level.

Grayeyes, you mention 14 AH slots, is this in one AH or multiple ones in different sities?

"so does alch make a decent profit?"

I've made a quite a bit of money on it. Not as much as if I'd spent/spend all my time camping NM, but I definitely enjoy it more. This is honestly a horribly vague question. I have no idea what mentality the crafters on your server have. I was making 1.5k a pop selling Hi-ethers. Then someone horribly cut into the market. If they're willing to make only 300 gil in profit from gathering all those materials, am I willing to do the same? I can't outrule that they will continue pumping those cheap hi-ethers on the market simply because they make a killing selling the +1 and +2 versions.

"and around what level will can you start making a steady income? "

It honestly depends heavily on your server. On Carbuncle, I'd say you could see profit (make money off recipes, and compensate for expenses of profitless skill raising recipes) at the early 20's if you had a VERY relaxed attitude about it. Some of those recipes sell for profit, but don't sell fast, or apply to restrictive markets.

You may be better off farming with your BLM to aford those items. It'll be faster and more rewarding, IMO. Try gathering beastmen blood from thread leeches in Pashlow Marshlands. Probably others, too.

"how long did it take you?"

I've been raising it since I started playing (November of last year). Up until about 2 months ago, I used fishing and new job farming as a primary source of income.

Man i wish i was higher in crafting. I have 300k on me, which could get me another 10 levels in goldsmithing if i spend it wisely (make profit of stuff from 300k then make stuff) but I'm a lvl 50 BLM looking for his elemental staffs.
