Last night, my LS and I decided to run four rounds of Garrison. It was amazing. Great battles, challenging mobs. We loved it and we made sure everyone walked away with something (I got the Garrison Tunica).

I did, however, start to get angry.

Frustration 1:

Before (and often during) each Garrison we would shout a warning to the entire area. With third tier orcs spawning in a noob zone (W Ron), it's only fair to warn other players. But instead of people staying at a good distance, noobs were walking right into the fray. I understand people would want to see this event, but these people were standing between us and the mobs. I, personally, saw 5 noobs get killed by AoE attacks.
We warned again and again, and still we heard shouts of "WTF? It's a war!" or "Everyone come to the outpost!" Some people would even stand there arguing why we should invite them (even after we told them we had a full alliance and that a level 5 WAR would get murdered).

Frustration 2:

During one warning, some noob started arguing with us that our shouts were going to make people want to come to the outpost. This person actually got quite mad at us for telling people to stay away because it would make people not want to stay away. Dumb.

Frustration 3:

After the third Garrison some higher level noob came by trying to impress us by telling us how he could solo the quest. We explained it to him and he started arguing that at his current level he could solo it. I mean that's just plain stupid. If you kept your current level Garrison would be no challenge at all. Who does this guy really think he's impressing?

Moral:
1) Stay away from groups you are not a part of. Ask for an invite, but do not be a pest.
2) Do not argue with someone over the stupidity of other people. Talk to the morons running into their own deaths rather than the people trying to warn them.
3) Don't be stupid.

Note: I should mention by noob I mean a player with unrefined, inexperienced behavior, not necessarily a new player. I've seen great new players and level 50 noobs.

congrats! was there any particular strat you used?

as for your list of frustrations, think of it this way, you gave fair warning, if they're too stupid to not stay away it's not your problem.

Actually, it did get funny. Some players were sending tells saying they didn't mind dying if they could watch. I started telling them to only come at their own risk. One guy came by even after dying once.

As for strategy, you don't have time for one. All complex plans break down because the battle is so hectic. You have over a dozen NPCs helping you fight and that you have to keep alive, along with 4 waves of 6-8 orcs IIRC. There's no time for chains or special startegies.

I can, however, give you some tips.

1) Build full tp before you start. Clearing the first wave as fast as possible can mean the difference between winning and losing.

2) Bring as many vokers as possible and several healers to heal both players and NPCs (yes you can heal the NPCs in this battle). If the NPCs die, you lose automatically. You need to voke the orcs off them right away and keep them focused on your players.

3) Bring at least one THF or PLD with a useable 2 hr. In the last wave of orcs a boss orc will spawn. He is major bad news and can kill a player with one special move. Either invincible or perfect dodge when he goes for it.

That's about it. Good luck.

for something like that you just need to filter out evertying execpt for party talk and alliance talk. That way you dont have to hear any of the extra crap, and if they get too close it thier own fault.

Forgot to mention:

TURN OFF ALL BATTLE EFFECTS

Trust me, there will be tremendous lag in this battle. With a full alliance, over 12 NPCs, and wave after wave of orc, things get busy fast. Battle effects make it harder to do what you have to.

It's easier to do the quest with a party of 6, the amount of monsters is dependant on how many people are fighting. Easier as in easier to manage (less people) and less lag.

Cool, um what exactly are "Battle Effects" I've seen them on the config...but what do they do.... is it like turning off the animation that pops up when u score a critical hit??

First off, this is not easier with six people. The number of orcs is still very high and you have fewer NPCs to help you. I've done a six man Garrison and failed twice. We ran four 18 member raids in one night and everyone was a success. Also, as you increase number of members, you increase the number of items that drop.

In Garrison, everyone recieves gil (~1500) and some items are dropped into the treasure pool. The more people, the more items, but still nowhere near enough to go around. You'd have to run a number of raids to get everyone something.

And battle effects, refers to animations related to attacks and spells cast during battle.

It's not only garrison, is it? Sometimes I go to qufim tower for fun, and on the way there, I usually slay a few weapons to act like I'm a hero to the newbie... and the newbie would stand around me and watch, then you see them getting almost killed by whirl of rage...
Another thing that annoy me more is when I lvled off wight once(well, not really lvl off them, but I fought them at IT)... newbie would stand around me and donating their blood to my wight... >_>;;

By the way, can garrison be completed by small parties? like 3-4 people? and what happen if I failed..?

The garrison gear is similar to lizard or bone gear, but adds some base stat boosts and is wearable by all jobs. For the exact stats, you'd have to check out mysterytour.

The noobs never got in our way. They just died.

And as for small groups, I've done it twice with a 6 man PT and failed both times. Still had huge numbers of orcs. Your best bet is to get a full alliance with several cryptexes. Then run four or five in a row.

you were right about the frustration, the man did have a point when saying telling people not to come would want to make them come but i see where you're coming from, IMO there should be a different area where you do garrison sorta like BCNM's, so no low lvls or noobs or whatever go get killed and watch and lag the thing
