how do you cancle a job ability you've activated? perhaps i should already know how to do this by lvl 36, but i don't, and the only place i've seen it talked about is on this board. there may come a day when i'll need to do this and not know how.

Most job abilities (and spell effects from allies) with durations may be manually canceled by selecting the corresponding effect icon on the top of the screen.
On PC, press {+} key twice to move cursor to effect panel.

Just FYI I think for PS2 the equivalent would be pressing triangle twice.

Yeah, you push trianle twice to get the cursor on your statsus indicators, then move to the one you want and push X and it will delete it, unless it is Signet or a negative status inflicted by enemies. Hmm, actually, im not sure if you can cancel food either.
You can't cancel food, but since the last patch there is now another new type of food that when you eat it, cancels your current food effects.
I *think*. ;p

I'm sorry for doing this, but I just wanted to ask a question that concerns the PS2 controls since you guys were talking about triangle ^^ Could someone please tell me how the PS2 controller is programmed?
L1
L2
R1
R2
Direction Buttons
Triangle
Square
Circle
X
Analoge Left
Analoge Right
Thanks
If you mean what button does what, then it's like this:
L1 = autorun on/off
L2 brings up macro list (can't remember which is ALT and which is CTRL
R1 = bring up on screen keyboard
R2 = other macro list
Direction buttons = scroll through targets/menus, etc
Triangle = 1 push is allow you to view complete chat log, push again brings cursor up to status indicators like signet, protect, etc.
Square = bring up menu
Circle = um...cancel stuff? exit menus, etc...
X = confirm, select
Left Analog = move character
Right Analog = move camera
L3 = lock on/unlock target
R3 = used for /heal (sit to regain health)

I'll answer seeing as I use both control schemes extensively.
L1 = automove - same as Numpad 7
L2 = Ctrl macros - pressing toggles the menu - similar to holding ctrl
R1 = take screenshot (when interface is hidden) or bring up onscreen keyboard (for the PS2 only)
R2 = Alt macro - as above.
D-pad up/down - select party/alliance members in range.
D-pad left/right - move the cursor left or right (irrespective of distance in height) - similar to a directionally selective tab.
When menus are open, d-pad navigates through menus.
triangle = toggle menu - similar to numpad +
square = open menu - same as numpad -
circle = cancel - same as Escape
x = confirm - same as enter
Analogue left = movement - walking by pushing slightly and running by pusing to the edge of direction
Analogue right = camera movement - always on - especially handy during battles when arrow keys (on keyboard) take on the function of D-pad when the small menu is up.
L3 (push-in left analogue) = toggle heal - same as numpad *
R3(push-in right analogue) = toggle camera view - same as numpad 5
select = hide/show interface
start = temporarily log out to POL.
oops, I messed up R3- L3 actually does both of what I said, it makes you heal outside of battle, and locks and unlocks target during battle. R3 simply changed from 1st to 3rd person.
You would think after playing so much I would know the controls better, but honestly I use them mindlessly... I don't even think about with buttons I am pushing, I just push them...
