best race for pld

Post-Refresh (lv41+), I prefer Elvaan... higher HP and Vit. Some I've PT'ed with hit pretty hard too, doing 200~ish dmg with Vorpal Blade everytime he has 100% tp (we had bard, so that did affect his WS accuracy).

In my opinion there is no best race.

The player makes the Paladin, not the race. I'd rather party with a Taru Paladin who plays the job well, than for example an Elvaan (stat-wise possibly the best choise) who doesn't.

Too bad there are to many mediocre or worse Paladins on my server. That being said, I see way too many mediocre or worse players in any class. :sweat:

I like galka cause I am one.
Though a taru PLD almost put me to shame with his massive MP pool, till the mob we were fighting brought him within inches of death cause he was spam curing to try and cover his "barely over whm stat" HP levels.

Meanwhile when I tanked the same mob difficulty next fight there were no difficulty. THough with a light hitting mob a taru would beat me.

Well...taru would have owned me anyway with all that MP, but it would have been a dead taru to do it.

Each race really has something they excel in as PLD

most of the people here putting in their vote are people who arn't "experianced" in knowing what makes a race better then another. people voting hume are probably going "oo, they have more MP so in long HNM fight they can cure more!" that extra MP is negated by a belt the elvaan can wear a (forest belt?) (E) with +60 MP .. or 40, i forget.. lol. anyway. im just saying that most people voting here are very very very biased, voting purely on what they are , or what race they like. in my opinion, elvaan are the best purely for their HP, MND, and VIT.

well let it be said that I didn't choose my race (at character creation) of galka knowing I was going to be a paladin, I kinda just fell into it.

I like Galka because of their high HP and VIT, as well as higher DEX than Elvaan.

Combined with say an astral ring, a RDM with refresh and a Bard with ballad my MP is really not a problem at all.

saying that isn't really fair though, because an elvaan in that situation would be in the same boat, or a hume, or a mithra! bard and refresh would help ANYONE, it doesnt justify a galkas mp, and using a ring purely for something that is a neccesity for your class means you're losing a ring that could have +2 VIT and make you a better tank. meaning you're not the most suited for that class.

In the long run it's about MP regeneration not pool.... As in a 2 hour or even a 30 min fight that +200-300 MP of a Taru PLD will have been used up long ago.. thus they are just as limited as the Galka in their MP ability... But I'm sure he wises he had that extra HP and Vit of the Galka


So Eventually it's about Vit and HP look at every Koeing Wearing PLD's gear hardly a piece of +MP gear it's all +HP I've even seen a Galka PLD with 1/2 Koeing, 1/2 Adaman, Aegishjalmr Helm and Farnir Sword wearing Cassie Earring and Bomb Queen Ring...other earring was a Hades +1 and I believe other Ring was a Defending Ring -10% Damage so this guy had close to the best gear in the Game...


Basically for Exp Parties you need enough MP to make it through the chain... and for HNM's it's all about Living (not just surviving the ultra damage Specials but the next hit or 2 after while your getting healed).... so get every ounce of HP and Vit you can... Thus in the highest lvls of the game (or the game after your done lvling aka It's about Gear not Levels since everyone is 75 aka the END GAME) Galka prob. has the best attributes in many chases having the same Base Vit stat as many races do with the highest +Vit items in the game... not to mention their Significant advantage of HP's...

So Galka... toughest Road prob... for LVLing... Greatest Base Stats for End Game play...w/ Elvaan prob second...


PS: Yes I'm Galka... I might be Bias and yes most races can work... but Stat wise I would have to say Galka's MELEE stat advantages come more into play as MP becomes less of an issue

PSS: Btw Ever heard of Equipment Swaping? almost instant to do and actually very smart Wear +MP item till MP gone which can be 1 casting for say a Cure III then switch in a better +Def or Vit ring/Earring etc.. Some Races might not need to swap Gear... but you also remeber most that don't... don't even have the same Vit as a Galka wearing the +Vit ring... Gear... etc..

It all comes down to HOW your use your MP, not how much of it you have. You have to know when you need more hate, and when to use your job abilities.

I did my fair share of gear swapping in my 30s-40s between RSE and Centurion's (I later came to the realization that the small difference in defense between them made it pointless) and right now I swap out my RSE gloves for the AF gloves. Just a quick macro, and if you do it right, you still get the most bang for your buck of that enmity+.

Considering that if you are serious about gaining experience, you will have an MP refresher in your party, Galka have the MP they need and then keep even more VIT in their back pocket with a quick macro switch. At which point, the argument of "Well, Galka are using up their ring slots on +50MP when they could be having +6 Vit."

We have both :)

And if we have enough hate and our MP starts creeping up towards our max... quick equip macro, and our MP max goes up by 25.

Don't write off Galka because of their MP. We take a different road than other PLD and get the job done just as well.

I think elvaan look fruty and to prissy for my liking so thats why I voted Hume is best pld.

thats the thing, looks are important - i admit, thats why i made an elvaan, but STATS determine what class is best..

saying an elvaan looks prissy doesnt mean its not the best

saying a galka is an ugly fat gorilla doesnt mean its not the best


tbh, galka and elvaan are good in different aspects, making them the ideal choice.

Player style and equipement makes a pld. Race is 3rd on the list.

Saying elvaan can use mp belt to make them not short on mp is like saying hume use hp belt to make them have extra hp. It's all the same at the end. It depends on how much you willing to spend money on building your char.

Last weekend we did several ws nm, the main tank was a lvl 75 elvaan pld. I was lvl 73 at the time. He has no more than 50 hp than me. And I have 2 pieces Adaman at the time (full Adaman -41hp compare to full AF). So, race really has very little to do with a good pld or a bad pld. However, I do kind of think a lvl 73+ galka pld in full adaman will make an awesome stats pld. (high hp, vit, + extra mp from adaman).

BTW, I voted hume cuz that's my char's race.
