I was in this pt last night in Boyhada. Well we had thf brd blm whm drg and PLD, Well the DRG first off states that the PLD does not need an initial trick to hold hate. Which is somewhat true as long as you have MP. I kept getting down to the single digits in MP Cuz the WHM wouldnt heal me past the orange. I got 300 TP and kept asking for a Cure IV for spirits within. I was out of MP and the Whm refused to abide.

The Drg continued to say that a PLD's dmg is not important in holding hate in any way.He shut up about that after I SW for 475. And said pretty much that VIT is the only thing that matters for a PLD, I almost destroyed this guy with my bare hands. I would have 1 mp and they would pull Expecting me to hold hate with Just provoke since all my timers were still down and I had to use defender to stay alive Cuz of the WHM. He told me to rest in between battles, which the intervals in pulls were maybe 7 seconds. Then after I won in evbery category of the argument he proceeded to Start on the EQP. like " Where is your astral rings" Im like wtf god this guy is an idiot. A hume pld doesnt need astrals in any way shape or form to hold aggro.

Anyway this just kind of pissed me off because I take pride in my pld skills and I get lots of compliments this guy was just pure "Dunes" Neway have ne of you guys ever met neone 55+ this idiotic.

First of all, you should not be letting a DRG tell you how to do your job. You don't tell him how to wield his spear, he shouldn't be telling you how to hold hate.

Second, in a group like yours, you need to establish a good relationship with the main healer. If the WHM isn't healing you in fear of running out of MP, then pulls are coming too fast or the BRD isn't doing his job. If the WHM wasn't healing you out of spite, you have two options: A) disband B) find a rep

Considering that finding damage dealers (at least on Leviathan) is a piece of cake, DRG should've been kicked for idiocy and take your chances with someone else. Who is he to say that the THF shouldn't trick to you.

Who SHOULD the THF trick to then? There a point to the THF if the THF isn't using trick attack?

Yes, I have an extensive list of "People I won't group with." Some are out of principle... many are just because they are idiots.

To keep that experience flowing at a good rate, all 6 members have to do their job to the fullest. So, 5 good people + 1 bad apple = 3k or less an hour. If that is the case, I'm better off logging off.

I didnt let him tel me how to hold hate. He shut his mouth after a bit. Nowone tells me how to do my job. Hes not a bad drg tho, was double thrusting on crabs for 300 at some times. After all that I even complimented him on his Ws'es jus to show that i didnt take ne of his crap personally. I proved all his little theories wrong and he didnt say nothing else after that really. The Brd wasnt ballading right at the begenning or something and he assumed it was my fault i guess. Things got better in the end and we started pulling off chain 4's, Im getting involved in a static now I'm tired of AF hell when ppl you think were your friends turn out to be asses. Neways theres my story.

Arx, that's some harsh experience. But I did run into some occasions where the group wants chains and I'm down to 20mp and they're wondering why the DRK is getting aggro off of me, where the only thing I have is Prov to hold hate while he does 100+ off the Altepa beetles. I hate groups that thinks you're not doing your job where in fairness, the biggest way we can hold aggro is having mana. The group I was with didn't have a BRD, but it ended in a good note either way. Just that I hope when people say things like that they actually know what they're talking about instead of just saying "you should control aggro, blah blah" without really knowing how too.

Generally if a group is giving me trouble with something like this, I put it to them in very simple terms. "No MP = no holding aggro" is usually sufficient explanation, though I did have to explain it a little more explicitly to a WHM in a group I was in recently who was telling the puller to pull when I had not enough MP for a single Cure I, much less anything with real effect on the hate situation.

It was a very simple explanation. I simply went through an entire fight without curing at all (with the permission of the party leader who wanted to help me make my point because he was sick of listening to the WHM gripe).

He learned fast. After that, there were no complaints, and I was allowed at least 24 MP before any pulls.

Its a little different when ppl are high lvl because their Egos get enormous, some of them that is. "They are uber master because they are high lvl"/. So some arguments can get pretty personal if ur not careful.

It seems that since u don't have a rdm to constantly refresh u, you will need to run to the bard after every fight and get ballad.

But I don'ts see how the whm is worrying about curing u, since he should be getting ballad from the bard, meaning that he's gaining MP refresh through out the battle.

I usually try to find a rdm and a bard in my pty if possible. Very rare I might have to add. But its nice to get refresh from rdm and att+ & acc+ from bard. This will make the exp a lot faster with little amount of down time.

Don't worry about the dragoon, obviously he doesn't know too much about PLD's.

Well Ya thats a good combo but I like to have a BLM. You cant very well have WHM, RDM, BLM, BRD. But i guess the whm can cast D2s and escape in the 60s or so. I dunno though, Brds are rare.

well I play brd and I just got ballad so I'm not sure what the pld's would like to see happening after reading some of the posts here.

I'm supposed to keep ballad on the mages. Got that down.

I'm supposed to keep attack songs on the damage dealers, no problem.

I'm supposed to put ballad on the pld. uh... how is this supposed to work? I haven't seen very many pld's run over to the mages to get within ballad range. And the mages are usually too farm from the tank and dd's for me to reach both sets of people with one song even on the harp.

And almost always, the pld in the pt simply sits down to rest immediately after the fight is over. Getting up to run to the mages for ballad would slow his MP regen down.

Ballad has a recast timer. Can't keep singing the same song over and over again if someone missed out. So what would be the thing to do? Run to pld and give him refresh and let the mages do whatever cause the pld can help himself better? or just leave the pld out if he doesn't want to cooperate?

Or simply throw ballad on all the damage dealers and make the pld happy?

I can't speak for anyone else, but when I am in a party with a bard I make a point to run over to the mages as soon as battle ends so that I can get Ballad without making life difficult for the Bard. All I ask is that the Bard wait the two or three seconds for me to get over there.

Ballad makes my life SO MUCH easier as a PLD, because it allows me to be a little more free with my MP and still make longer chains.

Party setup for me was this:

Smn/Blm/Rdm/Pld/Thf/Rng

Ranger pulls and I move in position to do a trick aggro type thingy. It goes very wrong. But even though we're not able to get the hate all on my from a fuidama, I'm still able to hold hate well enough against the rng and the other mages. Only time I ever had problems was when the blm did his Freeze, or during the skilchain (Fuidama + Viper Bite really hurts).

Yeah, Trick Attack isn't necessary for a PLD to hold aggro (afterall, I lvled from 40 to 62 w/out a THF), but it does make it easier. I mean, who was the THF supposed to SAnTA on? The DRG? @_@

Anyways... I was in the best pt yesterday. It consisted of:

PLD (me), RDM, BRD, BLM, RNG, and DRK.. no WHM whatsoever. We were getting constant Chain 5s and almost a Chain 6 if the RNG's sidewinder hadn't missed some. :(

But getting 6mp/tick meant that no one really ever had to rest... It was very nice. I was basically the main healer for myself cause I didn't have to worry about MP, but when I got low, the RDM and BRD healed some. By the end of the battle, I was almost back up to full MP. lol And because I was pretty much healing myself the entire battle, I almost never lost aggro... Even when the RNG did 800-900 dmg with Sidewinder. @_@

We were fighting a tank's worse nightmare... Tahomas (I can't remember if that's how it's spelled) in Lab. of Onzono (sp?), and they paralyze and silence you ever couple seconds... very annoying. But the funny thing is, our BLM/WHM was better at curing me of those problems than ANY WHM I pted with. The exp rate was insane. But this setup only works on some mobs which is the problem... It depends on what status ailments you get inflicted with as to whether or not you can do this. For example, we can't really fight cocks in Cape Terrigan because they petrify you and that is like a lv39 WHM spell. =/

When you get on, send me a /tell of who the DRG was, and I'll be sure to not pt with him if he catches up to me. ;)

personally it sounds to me like you had a piss poor puller...I never pull unless the pld has mp(100+), otherwise i take alot of hits and turn into a mp spunge. Of course that could just be because i've been one shotted enough to know that the pld needs to be able to hold hate...

Well you can SATA on the DRG, thats why they got Super Jump. Of course since that has a 5 min timer its only good to finish up chain 5 or 6....SATA on tank first then on the DRG, DRG super jumps and its no biggie.

To answer the BRDS question.. The pld dont use MP hardcore till after lvl 37. 37-41 sucks for pld mp unless there is a brd. Thats when a PLD learns flash.

And tricking off the drg to open was impossible nearly. He had a thf sub therefore all he was good for was the SA- Double thrust. Which was pretty good dmg. No zerk tho which in the end overall Id rather the DRG have that. I dont really need it anyway to hold hate. The only things that tug on hate is a sidewinder or Freeze burst. No measly double thrust Viper bite skillchain ^^. Anyway its really fun outdamaging the cocky bastard with spirits within. I got a static now so its Cool. Had to take Soraan's road. The drgs Name is Akou. Also had a ranger last night that refused to SC with the THF. Was just XPing last night to catch up with a member in the SP. The leader said " Hey Sc with the thf" and he proceeded to say NO!

He kept sidewindering from back by the mages making everyone run all over. No matter how many times we told him to stand behind the Paladin. Then in the middle of a battle he said R 0 and DC and never came back. He popped back in 2 hrs later Asking for a D2. He said the server went down. haha. I told him to walk back for all of our time he wasted. And jus so you know Soraan his name was Oldo.

I can relate with the horror stories here. It has gotten to the point where I will only hunt with my LS now. We all get on at the same time and we all lvl together, nice really. I hate pickup groups. Now if I could only keep our monk from stacking skills. She intentionally tries to pull the hate off me I swear hahaha.

When i had my 52 pld on my old character, when it was a LS party and we were all together having fun, all our damage dealers would try to out hate me, then would see if i could get it back ;)

Its always fun bouncing the mob around if you don't have a thief :) the drk, mnk, rng, and i would always stand in a square and make the mob turn in circles for laughs, then watch as the blm nuked it to hell

I love hate games when it is with people you trust adn that trust you enough to know they may take one or two hits, but you will keep them alive :thumbsup:
