Hi there. I seriously can't wait to finally get the money and buy the game (ps2). Anywho, I've been reading a lot of the boards, guides, and just about anything i can find dealing with the Jobs of FFXI. But after all that reading i still don't know what class i want to start out as if I'm going to be a DRK. On top of that i got some questions that i hope would be answered by my future fellow DRKs.

SO at the risk of me sounding like a broken record being played by an idiot...

First off, out of plain curiosty. Whats the best race for a DRK? I have already decided to be a Hume

As for my starting classes I was thinking taking both Warrior and Theif to 37. Those two seem to be the most popular subs. Is this a bad idea? If it is whats a good sub for DRK? (just suggestions)

Last but certainly not least... Money. How much, on average, does a DRK cost in the end? I heard $1,820,000gil others say closer to $2,500,000gil, thats with the best gear, weapons and food.

60+ , people want elvaan melee.

elvaan is the best race for a dark knight.

in 2nd would be galka

I prefer elvann, but that is kinda biased cause i am elvann:p
But elvann does have the highest strength, along with Galka, but elvann have more mp, which i would prefer over a slight difference in survivability. Ultimately, every race can work out to be good.

As for subs, sub war until lv 60, at this point, you really should have thf and war available for subbing, depending on what the pt needs.

As for end game cash, im not really sure. I'm lv 53 atm, i have about 1.2 mil in equip.

First and foremost, welcome to the DRK boards here on FFXIOnline!

Well, depends on what you define as "end-game"

Many stay with the routine Thick series armor, all of which are rather cheap/easy to get a hold of. With the exception of the Hauberk body part, which can go from 1.8mil->2mil +++ on most servers.

But if you really want end-game equipment like the Adaman Hauberk that totally blows the rest away (or even Armada, the HQ version) that's almost hard to put a definitive price on. Very rare.

Only the cursed version of it (e.g. cursedHauberk) can be sold, these are crafted by 90++ Blacksmiths. The final version, adaman/armada, needs to be uncursed with the Abjuration item u get from the respective HNM. After the uncursing process, it becomes adaman/armada, and then becomes rare/ex.

Rare = can only hold one on your character.
EX = exclusive, cannot be traded/sold etc

just an example ^^

That might be average gear, but the best gear:

peacock charm 3,500,000
2 sniper ring+1s 3,000,000

thats 6.5M for just 3 slots of the "best" gear.

anyway, welcome to FFXI ^^

Edit:

I screwed up the price of the rings.

Have there been lots of people running around with Sniper Ring+1? At least now I'm certain that they exist; I've just never seen one yet.

Its been sold for a total of 7 times on Fairy, and ive only seen one JP player who actually was wearing one, and i was wrong in my original post, it only sold for 2.5M once the other times it sold for between 1-1.5M.

one crafter has pretty much cornered the market on sniper ring +1's on quetzalcoatl. usually sells one a week, or every few days, for 2.5 million. normal sniper's rings are up to 350k or so.

at level 55, pretty damn far from the end-game, total cost of gear is in the 1.2 million range, i think.

Thanks to those that replied. I will be getting the equipment for the game (HDD kit and keyboard) within the next two weeks (just started a new job, gotta wait for my check).

I'll probably be getting on the gilgamesh server, got friends on there already plus from what i can tell from the boards, gilgamesh must be the most empty server in the game.

Now i noticed something while browsing more on the site. You have to be level 18 to begin the subjob quest? While looking at that page... the item names are in japanese and since they are pictures and not actual text my web translator can't translate them. Could someone tell me what they mean?

I'm goin to start as a warrior. I'll switch between Warrior and Thief to build that up and farm for gil.

One question i did forget to ask earlier, do people actually RP in FFXI? It is a MMORPG afterall. I would actually RP if others were. Sometimes its not fun when others don't rp and you are trying.

There are 2 subjob quests, and they are both lvl 18 req.

one's in Selbina, and the other is in Mhaura, you just have to pick one.

Selbina guy requires
Crab Apron (Snippers drop) - valkurm dunes
Damselfly worm (Damselfly drop) - valkurm dunes
Magicked Skull (Ghoul drop) - i suggest asking a highbie in gusgen mines.

Mhaura

Dhalmel Saliva (dhalmel) - buburimu peninsula
wild Rabbit Tail (dropped by rabbits outside in buburimu peninsula)
Bloody Robe (dropped by Bogys) can be found outside too, and many other places.

Do the Mhaura one, its easier.

Yes, people do RP. I role play, and when people start to get offended, I send them a tell about what's going on, then its all good.
