Ive been farming lately to buy a sniper since I figure its time I got my first one....and since ive started farming theyve gone up 100k (in just over a week or so)

My question is....Is 400k worth it for one sniper ring...or should I wait for them to come back down. They were steady at 300k then all of a sudden shot up.

Any suggestions??

Thanks in advance.

i remember telling myself the same thing almost a year ago when they were "outrageously overpriced" at 150,000gil. Now they're 380,000gil (never dropped in value once) ;)

I was attempting the same thing, Snipers were 250-300k on my server, but I'm thinking of giving up and just using +dex rings all the way since I can't find any reliable place to farm (tried Passhow, too slow... tried Giddeus, too slow and boring... tried Buburima, hardly any profit and boring). Personally I can't see how people make enough cash for these things, I play this game to escape the boredom of reality, not to bore myself even more just to get equipment...

As for the initial question, an item is worth what you're willing to pay for it. If you're planning on getting 2 snipers, you should probably keep going until you have enough cash for both, then check the prices again.

ALOT of darks are running around without sniper rings. Alot of 60+ darks I've checked dont have sniper rings, that obviously didnt stop them from leveling. A few darks I"ve talked to 55+ do not have sniper rings either, there constantly in parties. Bladers is right (sup blaze :D ), people do not check your equip before they invite, whenever I'm in parties I rarely have people check me at all.

You start to make friends with alot of people around your level, bottom line is you will get invited w/out sniper rings long before someone with sniper rings if the leader/party knows you. I'd invite a elvaan whm friend to my party long before a random taru whm. Same goes with a job and their equip (assuming they have equipment that will get the job done)

20k in real cash, or 20k in items?

Several techniques I've tried involve selling items through the AH after farming, and every last one I still have items which won't sell from.

my average is about that much now as well.

well, i farm against beastmen with /THF sub, so I get about 5K in gil per hour just for killing them (each mob drop about 70-100 gil, and I kill about 1 every minute).

The other 15K comes from items, some days you get a lot, some days very little, but average out about 15K per hour over the long run. But before you put anything up for sale on AH, check out what the NPC will buy it at. Half of the stuff they drop will sell for similiar if not more to NPC.

Also, try to farm in areas that NMs pop, and have chest/coffer pop as well. Those can really make your day if you get lucky.

as an elvaan drk you cant lvl without them imho. Without them u miss almost always. With them i hardly missed maybe 1/3 swings.

It didnt take long to get them. my 2 cost 500k took me 2 weeks to get them just farming newb areas.

I did that part... had like 5 giddeus keys rot because I already had one, and I never saw even one chest...

2 full weeks farming a newbie zone, and you consider that as a good thing? I got bored after 3 hours farming a newbie zone lol...

yeah farming sure can get boring
probably a good idea to try camping a NM with a good friend you can chat with for awhile.

Alot of their drops can give you ALOT of money in short time. However, competition stakes are high. and if there's a jp there, forget about it, their connection will get you bitching and whining every minute.

/sigh

Ochide's Kotes how i loathe thee!!!!

400K for a sniper ring = ouch. I was pissed when I saw the rings go from 250K on my server to 330K right before I bought one. I refused to pay that much and waited a little bit. It dropped down to to 280K and I bought 2. It's back up to 330K now. I got lucky with 2 archer's rings drops in a row, so my sniper rings were paid for.

It's ok to not have snipers pre-60.

Once you get to fight those high evasion coureals, chickens, and lizards (not like leaping lizzy types), you'll get frustrated enough yourself and will force your self to farm :( because you just won't hit them (maybe 20% of the time lol)

Even with 2 snipers and assault, adding up to +34 acc, its still not enough. Then you'll realize that you'll need a Haubergeon :((

But it's okay, that's just me, if you like the job enough its not a big problem... just be sure to have at least double snipers...

Ehh...

You made 500k in two DAYS?!

Care to tell me which newbie zone you farmed? =P

(I tried BCNM40 once after trying for weeks to get enough people to try it, we failed twice, one of which was my orb being lost, so I figured it's not worth trying).

I farmed Delkfutt's Tower for about two weeks to get my first sniper ring.

I financed my second sniper ring by doing teleport quests and utsusemi quest for scrolls, which I then sold at the AH.

What's interesting is I bought both for around 235K. I sold both last week for 310k each =P, then repurchased both for 290 and 300k =P.

Most NA melee players don't seem to have two snipers at 60. Quite a few have one sniper, and quite a few also have none, using +DEX rings instead.

My LS leader tells me many JPs prefer to use +DEX rings instead of snipers. I don't /check people, so I wouldn't know.

500k in 2 days is impressive. It takes me about 2 harvest to get that much(harvest takes 2 weeks), but since Gardenning requires no playtime(just logging in for 2min to check plants), i can also spend my game time making money other ways as well.

I'm a pretty wealthy player, already have both sniper rings.

I make alot of my money from gardening and cooking. I am having tremendous success right now with HQ food synths. If you want to make money this way you need mules(I have 4) since you are limited to 10 pots and 7 AH slots per character.

Since gardening and cooking take little play time though i also farm. I have to mix it up because farming one place all the time gets boring. I swap from marshlands to dunes, and sometimes i go to Palborough even though it isn't as profitable. Marshlands go for cuttings(2k), moss(600), silk(depends) and silver beastcoins(4k/stack). In dunes its Liz skins(7k/stack) and the odd fire cluster. I haven't been able to make a whole lot this way though 15k/hour tops i think.

I'm not even high enough level to get Sniper Rings yet but I've been prepping myself for getting them since lvl 25 (I also posted a thread on them a week or so ago  ).

Basically, I've been whoring on NMs and farming for the past week and a half. I've got lizzy's boots (sold for 190k) and I've been farming konschtat for Rams and (more recently ) lightning elementals. The Ram horns sell for around 1000-1200 on my server, the lightning clusters get about 700. Considering rams often drop mutliple horns and lightning elementals almost ALWAYS drop multiple crystals I've been hauling in 15-20k a day comprising 3 trips to konschtat a day. The lightning clusters really fly off the AH too, often selling within minutes of being put on. A word of warning though, I found Bastok AH to have considerably lower prices on these items than San d'Oria (possibly because konschtat's terrain is more favourable to farming than La Theine's) so do all your selling in San d'Oria for max profits.

Also, every hour - hour and a half the NM Stray Mary pops (I subbed ranger so I could check for her) and she is guaranteed to drop Mary's Milk (6k at San d'Oria AH, won't sell anywhere else since it's for a San d'Orian quest) and occasionally drops Mary's Horn (BRD instrument, price varies massively from server to server, anywhere between 10k-100k depending...) so if you bump into Mary that's an instant 6k if not a helluva lot more.

If this is the case then I recommend raising the price. A problem with the FFXI economy is that its supply and demand curves don't control prices as they should be. As supply increases the selling price falls with the equilibrium price as normal, but as demand increases people keep selling stuff for the same price and what ends up happening is the item continues to sell for less than the equilibrium price that it should sell for.

I see this alot and i think it makes for a screwy economy.

Lightning clusters sell for 1-1.1k on fairy

I just farmed Batallia Downs on my days off from work. 3 fangs is like 2100 not sure its been so long since i last played i forgot how much they go for ^-^

Last i played i farmed batallia for 1 week and almost able to buy hubergeon. Before i farmed batallia i farmed pashow and shakrimi. Both pretty good but i prefer batallia. Mainly because its so close to town.
