PSX to USB hook up

I got the PSX to USB converter from Radioshack.com and have started playing ffxi with it. I really like it but there is one thing that I think you should be able to do with it but I can not figure out how to do it. I cant page up or down in my macro list using the up and down buttons.
Can anyone do this....do you have any hints as to how I can get this to work.

Hold down the R1 or L1 button then press up or down.
