My FFXI crashes a lot... especially recently and mostly in San D'oria.
I was fighting a battle and I cast Benediction and BOOM. F*cking "Blue Screen of Death" a screen that NEVER comes on my computer except in FFXI.... why??

this used to happen to me all the time, even tried reinstalling, same problem. then i updated my video drivers, then what do you know, problem solved. theres just so much your card will handle b4 it gets certain updates, and FFXI is very demaning, so depending on the circumstances, you will crash randomly.

For games one of the biggest things that it draws a lot of use on is the graphic's card. So you have to make sure it has enough RAM, best transfer rate, and always up-to-date drivers but at all costs avoid beta versions of the drivers.
The other thing you can do as well is make sure the system's BIOS is up to date as well. Also be weary of possible AdWare or SpyWare that may be on your system and make sure it is removed if any are present. If you ever used any Freeware products recently then you have a high possibility of having AdWare and SpyWare.
Thankfully though Virus Scan programs finally are considering AdWare and SpyWare as being viruses and some are starting to take actions to detect and remove them.

I'd forgot all about the crashes. Mine used to do it several times a day but I haven't had it crash at all for a few months now.

My FFXI ran flawlessly for months. I got a brand new more powerful card and crashed every 30min at least.
If you have a new card turn OFF antialiasing and anisotropic filtering. My new card works fine with FFXI after that was done.
The default driver settings are to have these controls set per application, but many people force these on when playing shooter games.

For games one of the biggest things that it draws a lot of use on is the graphic's card.
FFXI is heavily intensive on the processor, much more so than the video card. Something of an exception compared with other games.
and always up-to-date drivers
Not always the case. I use a geforce fx 5600 ultra, and ffxi crashes every couple minutes if I use any drivers more recent than the 46 series (work great in any game beside ffxi). Most recent drivers aren't always the best for your system.
The other thing you can do as well is make sure the system's BIOS is up to date as well.
Most motherboard systems recommending not updating the bios if at all possible. Mess up the update, and your toast. Don't even get much, if any, performance increase from it. Occasionaly outdated bios can be the problem, but that is rarely the reason.
