View Full Version : 'Range' on Treasure Hunter/Gilfinder?

I suppose this probably doesn't apply to many people...I've got a high-level friend who I log in to farm with, but she doesn't have Thief leveled to 15 (o.O). So I'm wondering, what's the 'range' on treasure hunter and gilfinder? That is, for the effects to work, do I just need to be in the group (with my thief either main or subbed) anywhere in the zone? Do I need to be near the battle? Do I need to participate in the battle (actually hit the monster at least once)? I've even heard that for Treasure Hunter to work, the Thief (or /Thf) must strike the killing blow, which seems rather odd to me.

Does anyone have any info on how this works, exactly? Right now, I'm just bringing myself 'relatively near' the battle area (within a couple map squares, usually). I'm not sure it's working, though.

Its so hard to quantify Treasure Hunter effectiveness, I don't think anyone will have a concrete answer for you. My guess would be either (a) in the zone with the guy, or (b) in the "experience radius" with the guy (i.e., close enough to get xp from the fight).

For example, if I'm mining in gusgen, I'll join a group that's skull hunting, just to lend whatever passive bonus my TH can offer, even though I'm not actually fighting with them.

It might surprise and freak you out, but I discovered through experimentation that gilfinder and TH only kick in if the thief gets the killing blow.

My experiment was pretty simple. Thief/Beastmaster, charm whatever, send it against goblin, while I go kill another goblin. The pets goblin dies, 16 gil, my goblin dies, 34 gil. I've found the same experience applies to item drops as well. Dhamel typically drop 2-4 items when I kill them, when a pet kills them, they drop 0-2 items.

I have not thouroughly tested the math with a group of players yet, but it was a HUGELY noticeable difference in drops in the Crawler's Nest when I purposefully saved my sneak/trick/ws to get the killing blow... mob would drop 6-8 items every time, instead of 4-5 when someone else got the kill.

I was hinted that this is true by a JP friend, and after experimenting I'm fairly strongly convinced it is, and it makes sense. So please, if you are trying to get items for your party, try your hardest to get the killing shot, easiest with a big cyclone or fuidama finisher.

As a lvl 54 BST i can say that your Pet can get the killing blow and still have TH work. However, if you dont attack at all TH has no effect. As bst main using familures to farm no way I could get last hit but i still get drops as long as I was actually involved in the fight. Drops and gil amounts always remain conisistant with me solo without pet. This was tested on tigers as they have the most noticeable increase from TH of anything I hunt.

Akari, that's interesting. Perhaps it depends on whether the mob hates you when it dies.

Its possible that its an effect that may be applied by attacking it. I treat it like this if its true or not seems to get me the results i want. If it is true or not i dunno Really wish square would just tell us.

Also pets only sorta work like pt members to, so im not sure how much you can trust the test. IE: they dont make exp act like a 6 person pt if there are 5 people + pet, but if they are highest lvl member they change the exp curve.
