Last time i posted in the wrong fourms so it didnt get much attention. this time with the new screen cap program im going to make a better guide that can help you customize settings and such in the POL viewer. each section will have sub headings and endingds. i hope this time around im able to reach/help more people ^_^
TBoTB

TBoTB
02-22-2003, 11:23 AM
now a 2x4 list of pics will show up, there are only 8 pics per page but 125+ pages ^_^ surf around till you find the pic you want (~^_^~)

TBoTB
02-22-2003, 08:21 PM
on this screen select any (all if you want) bgm you want to be rotated. the far left button selects all, the next button to the right de-selects all. the button after that (the button you want to press when finsih) confirms selection/s the last button cancels.
TBoTB
02-22-2003, 08:22 PM

TBoTB
02-22-2003, 08:27 PM
now you can listen to the music you want while timelessly (sp?) gazing at your glorious background for hours if you want. the next section will cover adding, deleting buddies from buddy list within POL-N. till next time BaiBai (~^_^~)

Well, I would like to contribute something. For those of you whom want to customize your profile, follow the instructions on the above posts to get to just before where you change your picture, the below screen caps are the translation for the various items.
I hope this is useful to you all.

Sorry. :p
As for the option below occupation, "where you live" there are currently two option at the main menu, Not specified and Asia. If you click on Asia, you only have the option of Japan. Then you have the various regions followed by the area, then the city. If you do live in Japan, you can figure it out. If you do not live in Japan, you don't need to fiddle with it for most pratical purposes.

The email address changing thing that TBoTB posted is not entirely correct. Actually, it's not correct at all. The email address has to be changed from Services & Support. I don't have the screen shots, as I only have the PS2 version, and I don't have a vid capture card. I'd appreciate it if someone could take them for me. These aren't really detailed, but here are the steps:
1. Go to Service & Support [ƒT?[ƒrƒX?•ƒTƒ|?[ƒg]
2. Click Member Information [‰ïˆõ?î•ñ]
3. Click Mail Account [ƒ??[ƒ‹ƒAƒJƒEƒ“ƒg]
4. Choose Confirm/Change Account [ƒAƒJƒEƒ“ƒgŠm”F?E•Ï?X]
5. Log in using your PlayOnline ID and password
6. After this, I forget exactly what the steps were, but somewhere in here, there's an option that'll allow you to enter a bunch of email addresses to request for from POL. I entered 4, and all came back with the "already in use" type message, however when I entered only one email address, it seemed to work better. If there's an email address you want, try it out by entering it in the top box and requesting it. It'll tell you if it's okay or not. If it's okay, it'll display the email address in the middle of the screen in white. If not, then it'll have a generic error message. After you select okay and continue, it'll ask if you want to save your email password internally. I chose yes. And this should be done.
Once everything is set here, the Account Management that TBoTB showed will be automatically updated with the new information. The part that TBoTB drew up in his guide is basically like setting up Outlook Express. You can specify a email address and you can send out using that email address, however you won't be able to receive with that email address because it hasn't been registered with POL (as in Outlook, you can specify whatever email address you want, and as long as there's a valid SMTP server that you can use that allows for this kind of usage, you can send mail as anyone)
So for all of you here that listed your POL email address, I suggest going through the above process to actually register the POL address. I thought it weird when I was reading the POL Guide that no where does it say whether the email address was taken or not, and I started searching around for other ways to change it.
Good luck =D

well, not a big update but one at that, next is the deletion of HN ID's. ill have to wait till after the severs are up tough. stay tunded, this is terianstar signing out (~^_^~)
Time to steal Terianstar's thunder  Follow the cursor:
You can click two places :
where the cursor is is to add.
Where the HD is is to adjust options.
The star signifies the "active HD"
Type the new HD (15 character limit)
BTW: You cannot use kana.
‚Í‚¢ to jump to the new HD's profile menu. ‚¢‚¢‚¦ to return to the HD menu
When you click on any HD's avatar you get a list of options to the right. In order to set the "active HD" you must have atleast two HD's or the top option ƒ`ƒBƒ“ƒW‚·‚é, will be greyed in. The cursor lies on "Delete this HD"
‚Í‚¢ to confirm deletion, ‚¢‚¢‚¦ to retain HD. And that's the tooth folks

How to get the friends list to work:
This can help you fix some problems with the friends list and add friends to your friends list and delete some people whom are no longer your "friend".
SUMMARY:
You can not see your friend's online status even when you have permission OR you can not send authorization request to be added to friends list.
SYMPTOMS:
1. ) Friend is listed on your friends list, but you can not see them online and you can not send request for permission to allow you to see your friend. Also, you are sure you are not blocked and the friend has opened his profile to the public fully and is not hiding. AND your friend is online and has told you so.
2.) Your friend accidentally deleted the permission request you sent and can no longer authorize you to see his/her online status.
3.) Your friend is on your list, and you are on his list, but you can not see each other online. You have tried to send each other messages to try to give permission to each other, but the system never asks you for authorization.
4.) You created a new HN profile, you want to see your friend online and allow your friend to add your new HN to his list. You can not send him an authorization because he is already on your list. Your friend tried to send an authorization but can not.
5.) Your friend has allowed you to see when he is online, and your friend is not hiding and not in "annon" mode, but his status remains offline.
CAUSE:
There is a problem with POL in that it can not detect when authorization is needed again.
Authorization to view online status is only given on a per HN basis and the permission does not carry to other HNs that you may have, even when your friends list do carry to other HNs.
Both parties must be authorized to see each other and must have each other on their friends list or they will never see each other's online status.
RESOLUTION:
At each of the HN where your friend's status is not working, you must delete your friend from your list and add him again, requesting authorization. You must do it to each HN you have in which you want to ask for permission.
Follow the steps below and in the following posts to delete and re-add your friend.
STEP 1.) Go to the PlayOnline viewer and move your mouse up near the top, the profile display should come up, click on the smily face icon on the left side of the screen as shown in the image below. This will get you to the friends list.
AKosygin
03-16-2003, 01:13 AM
The friends list will pop up.
If the friend you want to add again, or to resend authorization is in your list, you will need to delete the friend. Otherwise, skip to step 6.
STEP 2.) Left click on the name of the friend and select the FIFTH option down to see your friend's profile.
The profile should come up.
STEP 3.) Copy down the HN-ID of your friend.
AKosygin
03-16-2003, 01:15 AM
STEP 4.) Exit out of the profile back to the friends list.
STEP 5.) Left click on your friend's name again, this time select the FOURTH option down and delete your friend from the list. If it ask you for confirmation, select Yes (hai).
AKosygin
03-16-2003, 01:17 AM
Now you need to find your friend (again) and add him to the list.
STEP 6.) Click on the magnifying glass icon, third option as seen below. And go to the search screen.
AKosygin
03-16-2003, 01:19 AM
STEP 7.) Enter the HN-ID of your friend that you want to add (re-add/re-request authorization) in the field on the left where it says HN-ID.
STEP 8.) Click SEARCH (where the cursor is at in the image below).
AKosygin
03-16-2003, 01:23 AM
STEP 9.) Your friend should then be listed on the right side, click on your friend's name and the screen will dim and options should be shown on the right.
STEP 10.) Select the second option to send a message.
AKosygin
03-16-2003, 01:29 AM
You will then see the message composing screen.
The SUBJECT and MESSAGE body should default to what is shown in the picture. (3rd and 4th fields down). Of course, the name will vary and it will not be Tifa. If you do not see this default message, something is wrong and you will not send an authorization request.
STEP 11.) Click the first option as highlighted by the cursor in the picture to send authorization request.
Your friend will now recieve an authorization request to approve you or deny you. Just click where it says "YES" to authorize when your friend sends you an authorization request.
If the system defaults to the message as the image below shows, it means it will send an authorization request. Now you will know that your friend can authorize you for sure.
There is the shortcut way as posted elsewhere on the boards: http://www.ffxionline.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=5707&highlight=friend+list
But this method, you know for sure an authorization request is being sent.

ALSO, cant you enter the name of the HN id in the ifrst field above HN-ID field in search =P

Also in friend menu, the first sub heading is for those that are online, the second is for those that have accpeted your firend inviter but are not online or dont have there pol status on 3, the third is people who have not accepted your inviter and have declinded (but not sure though if those that decline are in list =P)

Actually, Level 1 will only show your contents. Level 2 will restrict the viewing to those whom are your friends. Level 3 is Playonline, anyone can see you on, even while they are in POL. I believe level 2, you may not see it on POL but will see it in game.
In the level settings, there is a pull down that says whether you want to also include the active handle name or not.
As for the HN-ID: yes, you can just put in the name, but in the case to record your friend's HN account, the ID is better because using the name may turn up multiple records. And when you want to re-add them, you want to know which one is actually your friend and not someone else.
P.S.: Also, I did not use my real HN. My HN is sometimes on level 3. If you want my HN, just PMessage me.
A lot of importers dont know how to do this so i'm going to do a tutorial of it anyways.
Step 1...
(follow the cursor) 2nd menu, 6down
Step 2...
In config. menu, click the 4th option down.
Step 3...
Go down to where the cursor is. Then just select the number you want.

Neato. Can someone put up a guide to change the Internet settings on the PC version (if theres any?)? Also any linksys router users, did you change anything in the POL config to make it work with linksys?
TBoTB
04-06-2003, 06:37 AM
ffxi is supposed to automatlicly detect internet settings, i have a linksys router and it did for me. the only thing pc useres have to do is install the game. make sure to have your router turned on and connected to the internet so it can detect it if that was the problem. otherwise it should automaticly detect it.

Following the above post, select the Proxy Settings option.
This will take you to the below screen.
At the pull down, you have three options:
-- Use Proxy Settings: You will now tell POL Viewer the proxy server information and have it connect to a proxy server as specified in the POL Viewer.
-- Use WINDOWS Proxy Server Settings: You will now tell POL Viewer to go to Windows to use the proxy settings defined there. The Windows Proxy Settings is under Control Panel --> Internet Options --> Connections tab --> LAN Settings... --> Proxy Server.
-- Do not use Proxy Server: This disables the use of a proxy server settings.
AKosygin
04-07-2003, 04:56 PM
Then you input the information as apporpriate.
CORRECTION: It is SECURE proxy not Security Proxy.
The secure proxy is used when you need to route SSL connections differently. As usual, you need to specify the port to which you need to connect.
Example: On Microsoft ISA Server, the first proxy is usually port 1080 (SOCKS 4) or 8080 (Web Proxy Service), and while SSL will be 8443 (Web Proxy Service with a certificate installed). Though if you are using Microsoft's ISA Server, there are other faster methods.
Under most situations, you will not need this unless your network administrator is very anal about network security and demands all connections be made through a proxy server. (Or if you are very very paranoid)
