Other peoples names in SS´s =ilegal?

is it ilegal to post screenshots with other peoples "character-names" in it? Do you really have to edit and "blurr" other characters names if you don´t have their permission?

No you don't, It's just considered 'Curtious" (sp) to do so. Altho in my opinion its a waste of time.

Ehh in my opinion its incredibly sad to whine about that. What kind of person goes as far as to censor a name, as if they're some super star that'll get stalked. Heh, somethings are just ridiculous. Honestly i think censoring names is a waste of time, if you don't want to be in a screenshot, go invisible or something. *Shrug*.

Totaly pointless, users on a forum seeing your screen name?!?!?!?! is basicly the same as I seeing your name on a server. I wouldnt care anymore about it really.

It's not "pointless", it's not like by doing it you're doing somthing bad. And in some cases it helps prevent drama and other things that could result from it. I don't see anything wrong with it atol.

/names, not that hard...it's not a big deal...taboo in some circles but it doesnt conern me since most screens i post that have another person in them are usually close friends

Earlier when i allways asked my pt if i could post som SS´s here, they were all like: Me in a screenshot?Where do i sign?
So i don´t really know why someone would not want to be in a screenshot.

Look, everyone's different. If you think its a waste of time, then don't do it. Obviously the people who take their time to censor the names don't think it is. I do it just because I respect the players and it's quite possible they don't want their names published somewhere online. I'm that kind of person, I want to cause the least amount of trouble as possible. For example, when I posted that picture of me getting the Peacock Charm, a few weeks later I had dozens and dozens of /tells on FFXI asking/complimenting/begging me about it or for money. So its obvious some people don't want that kind of attention. I personally didn't care because it was my forum post anyway.

Secondly, regardless of if I censor the pics or not, I KNOW people are going to look at my pictures anyway. That's a given because there's a demand for them. In addition, I get requests all the time in my screenshot thread. On top of that, working with Photoshop for over 8 years, I think I've learned all the shortcuts. Censoring hundreds of pics takes almost no time at all. As I have scripts that will blur & save the format in .jpg with a press of a button. All I have to do is select the names then upload them. The time difference is miniscule.

So I'll keep blurring the pics and for those of you that do so, keep doing it (if you want to). I know when I'm done with it and upload it, someone will want to see the pictures. As long as there's a demand for the screenshots, I'll keep posting them on FFXIOnline.

This has nothing to do with respect of other ppl. I respect all players of FFXI as much as you do. But i wont spend hours with Photoshop, editing all SS´s because a few ppl ,for some reason finds it offending.

There is no way to please everyone. Some people want their name in SS´s, some don´t. This is just like the discussion about that some people find it rude when someone "Checks" them. But we can´t take away the "check" command for that. Their is allways some people who wont be pleased. But we can´t shape the world after them.

It doesn't take me hours. I can edit over hundred pics within 20 minutes. Like I said, I do it for my own reasons. The screenshots I take are for other people to see what high level people do on FFXI. I don't give a crap what other people think of my methods or the pics I take.

If you don't agree, then I'll just say don't look at my screenshots. Obviously people will look at my screenshots regardless of if they agree or not, because its at over 21000+ views since I first started doing it in February. Out of all the replies, only 1 person said censoring the names ruins the screenshots. Well, I changed the way I censor the names, so it doesn't look as ugly. But if you guys still have a problem with it, then don't look at them. Its that simple.

As for there's no way to please everyone, you're right. Its impossible to please everyone in the world. Like I said though, I'm that kind of person. I dont' like pissing people off. It just causes problems I'd rather avoid. An example of this is taking pictures real life pictures. You're on the beach or even at a restaurant like Hooters or something. You're going to ask the hot girl if you can get a picture with her or of her, just to be polite. Yeah, she may not care if you take a picture of her without her permission, but its just a polite thing to do. Same principle applies here on the screenshots. You can't ask every single person for their permission, so just censoring it is the logical way to solve the problem.

I can see you already trying to make an argument to the analogy I just wrote that it's not the same thing. So to refute your argument, I'll say this: "I'm going to censor the screenshots I take no matter what you say." It's my time, not yours, so why do you even care. As I said before, those of you who feel an obligation to censor them, keep doing it. If its a hassle, then quit. But for those of you that don't like it, either quit looking at my screenshots or shut up and enjoy them.

Don´t take this so personal, i love your screenshots and i don´t think editing them makes them any worse. And i never said that it´s bad to edit your screenshots. And since im totally worthless at photoshop it DOES take me hours to edit all my screenshots.

I didn't mean to make it seem personal, but it did seem I was angry. I'm not upset or anything, I was just defending the statement that it wasn't a "waste of time" and was trying to get my point across.

If you don't like censoring it, you don't have to. Just because I am or the next person is doesn't mean you have to do it also. Censoring images doesn't make you any better or worse of a person than the next guy.

So don't sweat it. Sorry for coming across like I was angry.
